    The arrangement is a masterpiece, and her vocals are stunning as usual, but what is even more incredible, is that she performed this whilst recovering from pneumonia.
    She is absolutely incredible.

    Gentlemen, another great choice. Thanks for presenting this performance. It is surprising to note that she was advised to not do this performance since she was recovering from a bout with pneumonia. Not willing to disappoint her fans, she did what you just saw. You may know some of this, but Sohyang is also an author of four books and an artist who does exquisite drawings and water colors, a songwriter, a lecturer on Music and Voice at University, and does the musical arrangement, plus the chorus, orchestra, costumes, and lighting for her stage performances. She is also; gracious, shy, humble, a deeply spiritual lady, who is charming, quick to smile, quick to laugh, is always elegantly beautiful, and her smile is breathtaking. There is much more . . .
    Cheers.

    There are no other vocalists like So Hyang. She is 1 in a billion. So my advice is do more of her. There are some other Korean artists that she shared the stage with in the 2020 'Begin Again Korea' TV series that are great as well. Taeyeon's version of Adelle's 'When We Were Young' live in Berlin is wonderful and worth a look.

    Some criticise her English pronunciation but, if you listen closely, her ending T's, D's and G's are flawless (many singers are very lazy when it comes to those ending consonants). So maybe the criticisms come due to be used to hearing the "lazy" versions of those sounds.

    • @trinquisitor_th2993

      Honestly i see most of her English pronunciation critics as nitpicking. It may sound off to the natives but if it doesn't reach the point of confusing the listeners or causing communication breakdown... I say it works.
      Glad to hear that i'm not the only one who thinks about this 😊

    If I can make a recommendation of which Sohyang song you should cover next, I think the vast majority of us would tell you her 2015 rendition of "I Have Nothing," the David Foster classic made famous by Whitney Houston. You simply will not believe your ears when you see and hear Sohyang transform this great song into one of her very own! ruclips.net/video/T4UyIMkdy4M/видео.html&

    No matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. You can tie your behind to a piano and it will prove futile because Sohyang's performance will literally suck you into the emotion and power she exudes, piano and all! She is the most magical singer I have come across in my entire six and one half decades on this planet. Sohyang is a once in a lifetime singer.
    The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh?
    The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to _really_ pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message.
    Other than this one performance, we know of only two other times Sohyang has performed this rendition of "You Raise Me Up," both in 2018. When she changes key there a couple of times near the end of the song and belts those high notes so powerfully, you expect her to actually lift off the stage and go into orbit! Yes, Sohyang is famous for throwing in everything and leaving it all on the stage--including the kitchen sink!
    Here is what Shane Filan said to Sohyang after this performance. ruclips.net/video/4XQlWFJr_yw/видео.html

      @@slimbikr You too! It actually does take a fair bit of research, reading some difficult to find interviews, and watching a great many of her obscure interviews on RUclips to ferret out the inner Sohyang. I have always found it to be well worth the effort because she tries pretty hard to live by the scriptures and not very many people in this world do that. So, like you, I love Sohyang! Occasionally something I thought was factual turns out not to be. For instance, it was only a month or two ago where Sohyang talked about her language skills in a YT video and I found out she just doesn't speak much French at all, even though French literature was her major in university. I suppose she gets little opportunity to speak French living in Korea. She seems to still read it fluently. Languages are a use it lose it sort of thing, and either you know how a French word is pronounced or you don't, LOL! I know because I live in Canada. 💖💖💖

    • @slimbikr
      @slimbikr 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@ToddSauve yeah i always laugh when people sometimes oversell her French and Vietnamese. Being Korean i do have an advantage in understanding the subtle nuances in the tone of her speech and singing and let me tell you… i don’t know her personally… but she must be of a real good ❤️ to talk the way she does and sing the way she does. But if you check out her earlier interviews on religion and ✝️ she gets that scary, thousand mile focused glance that most of the gifted ones do when they’re in their elements. Scary as hell… i am not religious but will 💯 go to her church to see her if she performs. Hallelujah!!

    Welcome to the world of Korean musical performances! If you like this style of music, I highly recommend Forestella's Scarborough Fair (a brilliant rendition of Simon and Garfunkel's cult classic)! They are a male quartet crossover group from South Korea consisting of two operatically trained vocals, one baritone/tenor specializing in musicals or broadway-type musical theater, and a counter tenor with an amateur rock background.

    At the beginning of So Hyang's career, some people dubbed her the Korean Mariah Carey. Truth be told, that comparison ceased to exist years ago. The legendary Mariah Carey, in her prime and on her best day, did not possess the vocal stamina or the breath control of So Hyang. So Hyang is next level extraordinary.

  • @pglover64
    @pglover64 5 месяцев назад +14

    Actually one of SoHyang’s best friends is also an amazing singer. Her name is Park Ki Young. She can cover a wide array of music. Many state that her rendition of “Nella Fantasia” is the best they have ever heard. “Last Love” & “Yeonan Pier” are also recommend.
    I have been in or around the music industry for over 45 years and will tell anyone that South Korea has the best vocalists in the world today. Their music schools/academies and esteemed music universities are some of the best in the world also. The major issue as to why the world does not know more about these incredible talents is because the music industry in SK is run by a group called the Kabael

    And she truly puts it all down and performs on stage. Do the things you want to do. We do more experimental performances. On this stage, she no longer feels the pressure of having to prove herself.
    Aren’t you curious about what kind of stages Master Class will perform if She lets go of all his burdens and unleashes the freedom She wants to do?

    This master class performance is even more impressive because the PHENOMENAL So Hyang IS NOT well here. Some time prior to this event, she was released from the hospital, still recovering from her latest bout with severe pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2020). At the same time, she was experiencing vocal cord issues. Her doctors advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, she believed her singing career was over, and she wanted to sing one last time. Afterward, she disappeared from public singing for nearly two years. When she returned in 2020, she proved that her vocal technique is rock solid. She is singing to God in this video. In an interview, So Hyang said her vocal cord issues really humbled her.

    This stage may have been her last performance. At the time, she was experiencing serious problems due to persistent pneumonia and was told by her doctors to abandon this step. It was at a time when her health deteriorated so badly that she considered quitting being a singer.
    She came on stage ready to die. Perhaps this song was a prayer to God. This is because her song closely resembles her current situation.
    She later makes up her mind and leaves for America. During her travels, she comes across this phrase in unknown places. “What you’re really afraid of is fear itself.” The moment I saw that phrase, my past came to mind. Even though I can no longer hit high notes due to health reasons, I can still sing. Criticism of poor skills. She thought, 'Isn't this fear why she was trying to run away?'
    So she decided to continue her singing. Her show on which she appeared was ‘King of Masked Singer’, and she decided to let go of all her burden and take it easy. She mainly sings light songs.
    Personally, she likes the songs after this one, but the parts she left out are more touching. It was not a place for her to prove herself, but a stage for us to enjoy together, and only then did she admit to herself that she could sing even as her health deteriorated.
    So, she continues to sing. .

    I have no doubt that this artist can sing. Unfortunately, like a lot of artists who cover very popular songs, they over sing what was already a great and easy listening piece of music in its original composition. This is one of those cases where I felt the vocals were lost in trying to make it her own. Turn it over because it is over done!
