Your conversion looks so neat under the hood like if it were factory. Chrysler should have offered a Diesel, but the manual transmission was gone in 1995.
it also feels factory to drive it.much more dependable now. i used all the vw motor mounts. just had to make spacers to lower the engine.
europe got a 2.8 diesel
version with the automatic transmission

I love these vans. It has the old original 1980s look. If you go to the Henry Ford. They have a Caravan on display
Had an '86 Ford Tempo with the Mazda RF 2.0 Diesel & a 5 speed manual. They put the diesel in the Escort too, but very few in either. It was awesome, got around 50 mpg.

@@davidbrock4506 I suggest an increased mixture of Kitten'Kaboodle/Tuna/ many kitty treats mixed with some chicken and beef and perhaps some Turkey too. His food bowl must never be empty and just like a farmer who milks dairy cows you will have the honor and privilage of cleaning out his "personal" office daily - sometime twice a day! 😈👿😈👿🙀

@@davidbrock4506 Well the other direction to go Dave is to have him follow the high "turkey" protein diet my 27lb evil one followed w/exception of the last 2 years he was with us. It involved releasing him every other day year around so he could keep the wild turkey population controlled and thinned out. He also took care of most of his personal needs when outdoor which translated into having to clean his office out maybe once a month?
"Evil" primairly used up one his 9 lives via old age as Turkey is very lean. He was around 25 years old or so.....
tony's mom used to weigh 20 pounds. now that she is old and dying she weighs about 3.5 pounds.
bigger tires have more weight, I did the same to one of my car, and fuel economy didn't change you've got lower rpms but because of the weight engine have to make more work to spin them. and there is the same outcome.

Greetings from germany dave. They sold the older gen caravans here as diesel. But your generation came here as a rebaged lancia voyager this was avaliable as a diesel. A few models we got rebaged part of the fiat Chrysler deal. I had a rebaged dodge journey sold as a fiat freemont 2.0 diesel. 😅

Let me put it this way.. not everyone can do a conversion like this, it takes quite a lot intelligence to know how to do this. I remember many years ago you put a VW diesel engine in a Chrysler voyager of some sort, an older model it was, maybe a late 90´s.. ? Thanks

I love my vw golf 4 1.9 tdi with a 2.5 TDi turbo from a vw transporter 2.5 tdi so has approx. 220 hp in my vw golf 4 1.9 tdi and it is from 09
I think it would have been very fitting to use a VW Routan van instead of a Caravan. Routan’s are rebadged Chrysler minivans
they cost more and rust more.

Hey Dave. I may have cracked your motor mount mystery. I kinda wanted to do a similar swap in spite of my preference to diesels that run alternative fuels. Looked in a 5th gen caravan. Didnt see any with a short wheel base. Had a brain fart. Noticed neighbors dodge journey has a 4 cylinder from factory. So i look up if anyone has done a swap for a dodge journey. Low and behold. The dodge journey actually had an option for a 2.0 VW TDI ......from FACTORY ! ! ! It was just a quick search. It was probably only available in Europe, but has my attention. Im gonna research it more when I get home.
i think journeys are poor quality and they rust bad. a caravan will last much longer.
@@davidbrock4506 yeah they had lotta electrical issues till atleast 2011. but did shed some light on the VW/dodge mount stuff. Amazing how after 40+ years, chrysler is still doing stuff thats reminicant of a the dodge omni with 1.7 vw driveline. If i was to do the swap, id get a rust free one and drown the under carridge in chassis oil. I actually tried looking for a omni/horizon to swap my jettas driveline into just for spite, but there all rotted away even worse than the jetta or too expensive. People on multiple forums (chrysler of vw) says a 1.6 diesel /5 speed is a direct bolt in for a omni, but no documented proof found.

I’m curious if you have any footage of the original build of this van… I remember when you built this one back in the day. I’m most curious about mating the VW and Chrysler CV half shafts as I have a similar project planned of putting one FWD transaxle into a different brand of vehicle.

Your probably thinking of the old blue caravan which was after the white one. Then it was the maroon one and now this. He didn't make any videos installing the diesel on the maroon one they where on the blue one
I always like watching you Frankenstein these vans together over the years, my favorite was the white one you did (I think maybe that was the first one?). How did you overcome the security systems for both cars to make them work together?

I was going to say (before hearing of some part replacements), I wouldn't have been comfortable with many of the (newer cheaper models) stock dodge parts to handle the new upgraded performance. Nothing Dave can't fix tho.

Hey Dave just wanted to ask you a question in regards to modifying a 1938-desoto engine. It has a flathead inline 6 228.1 ci Engine with 3sped manual 1st and reverse are not synchronized and has to be double clutched to shift gears.
My question is what would it take to put an automatic transmission in place of the 3spd or is that even possible?
you need a custom flywheel and an adaptor plate

the grey van speedo works perfect. there is many lights on the the v dub cluster .

I sure admire this build, but... 55 mpg and 200+ km/h? That would make it more efficient than any petrol car, close to the tiniest diesel superminis, yet faster than a 204hp TDI Multivan. Think you need some real-world measurements.

I love my 2003 golf with the ALH. Even tho it is an automatic. I got it for 400 dollars and all it needed for safety was front brake pads.
