Great film, Cat! I just can't bring myself to buy the ICON stuff, at least for now. I've watched numerous reviews on RUclips including yours and my "wanter" gets flared up. Then I get to the store, I look at the nice packaging, pick up the display items to hold and manipulate the tools and then I set them down and walk away. I just can't do it yet.
@@rubbermallet3873 I think you're spot on there. I don't think the ICON is as comparable to the Snap-on as HF is wanting to make it out to be. Maybe Gearwrench, but definitely better than the new Craftsman. Little details make the difference and Cat is good and pointing out those little details that only make the "Professional" label on ICON exactly that; just a label. I think the Carlyle tools at NAPA are as close as one can get to the tool trucks without the higher prices and having the added convenience of being able to go to the store or have a replacement brought to you when needed.
@@davidkierzkowski I would say though I have purchased some items at HF I don't regret. My favorite has been the 1/2" Earthquake XT air impact. The warranty has expired now and I haven't sprung the funds to buy a warranty extension yet. I just reckoned that when it quits working I'll buy an Ingersoll-Rand or something more comparable this time. I do like the Carlyle and the new Matco 1/2" air impacts.
thx for the video. recenlty hf had a 40% off on the icon but i didn't buy any. for me the deal breaker is the lack of a quick release. removing the socket sucks with oily hands
Rebuilding in house means your possibly buying a “new” ratchet that someone else already gave a hot supper. Awesome. I hope their gonna sell them separately, or use to “swap” when customers need a warranty.
i had to upgrade to an icon flex when they did not have a repl for my pittsburgh pro. this icon is terrible. if there is any lateral force on the ratchet like when you have an extension on it, it grinds and is not smooth at all. even after lubing it. so i warrantied it thinking i got a bad one and the replacement is just as bad!
Good to know info. I will stick with my professional grade stuff. Most of it is approaching 30 years old with little trouble, easily rectified when it occurs.
I’m a mechanic and use my 1/2 flex head daily even put cheater bars on it before. No problems here. And if it’s not a flex head design I would not buy. Too many advantages to the flex head. Hell I don’t even know if any of the other techs own none flex head ratchets.
Mr. Maximus I went to harbor freight. And they gave me my free 3/8 just letting ppl know. No email i just went in and asked for it. Because it was on the shelves. .
Icon is iconic? No wonder that women had a go at me with the 2 dogs on her profile pic when I was an admin 😂 was that to turn the neon 3 narrow to the right? To keep it very interesting and contained in the V 😭
LoVe the 120xps,, have them in my diesel shop since they were released, only ONE failure, apex tools sent me a rebuild kit next day, keep every ratchet lubed and you’ll minimize problems. Ain’t no different then changing your engine oil/trans fluid
I don't see ICON being around in a couple years. Harbor Freight changes brands so frequently. My local store doesn't look to be selling many ICON tools.
My local store has a lot of ICON stuff, always fully stocked. I assume that's because people don't shop at the flea market tool store for expensive Chinese tools.
@@zoticus1 na I have the ratchet wrenches and reg 3/8 drive ratchets in icon but I wouldn't buy the flex heads I don't like a lot of the stuff they pointed out like the small pawls that's just me if you've had no problems with yours that's good I'm happy for you but I don't like em

Donald Hollums I’m the same way. HF being junk is too burned into my DNA
you are a smart guy by doing that bc its prices are super inflated as well and doesn't agree or reflects in any way the product 🈴🈵🈲

Pittsburg pro works amazing lifetime warranty buy them before they stop selling them and only icon
I sure hope they get the 3/8 issue resolved, not a good start for Icon although I like my 3/8 Icon swivel head ratchet.
Is this worth owning when I have the flex head craftsman 1/2
I've had zero issues with my flex head, it's fantastic for the price compared to snap on or matco.

Funny thing is my Pittsburgh Pro’s have the V groove like the proto and do not share the problem you just showed on icons
Straight ratchet faces left faced down which is a hedghog head thanks uploader

Why would someone want to buy a rebuild kit.?When they replace the whole tool for free.

I personally NEVER work on my vehicles without hand protection so the squared ends on any ratchet is not an issue. I care about my knuckles.
Hi Catus , Thanks for Another Informative Video ! I Won't be Buying the Icon Flex Head Ratchet !

I think the difference in ratchets isn’t the first impression or even the month it’s should be years of use
Great review Catus Maximus...👏🏼 Would like to see a review on Capri Tools Ratchets...🧐

You should stop dropping so much money on those Icon ratchets and check out the 90 tooth Tektons.
Greg Retallack Then how we we all know about the flex head Icon??

Harbor freight is definitely heading in the right direction but these Icon ratchets have proved to be anything but professional.
Just by the gear wrench 120xp .

EXACTLY. Their built to a price, not built to perform despite the price. That’s what separates the big dogs from the copy cats..

@T Web you think it's overpriced?
Lol.
The only thing i dont like about the icon is no push button release
Hands
too many flaws w/ icon tools 🤔
You still get what you pay for in most cases.
Wayne Swicegood that's sucks lol 😄
This video is scrate ratchet dawg lol

Maybe stay away from the flex heads? Man those things are trash throw them in the garbage

They are really nice, you just have to use it properly, I've had no issues at all.
