For anyone who doesn't know what the Awakening refers to:
Omnics were first built as humanoid androids who had a similar sentience as they do today.
During the first Omnic war, a god AI (AI programs that were made to run entire countries, one of which was Anubis on the new Egyptian Clash map, you can see its containment cell) went rogue and took over Omnics world wide to rise up against humanity.
The Awakening broke the god AI's control somehow (a bit unsure on the details) which gave them today's sentience and created the Iris (the thing Zenyatta always talks about and basically turns into during his ult).
Ram was one of the highest generals in the God AI's army and the Awakening happened right in the middle of a battle. Imagine you blacked out and woke up IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ARTILLERY BARRAGE, that would mess you up, and it did with Ram.
So Anubis wasn’t the to give the Omnic sentience it was aurora who was the first and only omnic who achieve sentience naturally through pure coincidence and decided to sacrifice herself to give all omnivore sentience and resist Anubis control, now without an army Anubis is just a sitting duck while aurora after giving away her sentience leave behind a eye like construct that was dub the iris
Also respectfully ram hatred towards human are completely justified. Omics like ram were hated by people so he just hates them back
@jayjones4175 Not quite. It's more complicated than that.
Ram doesn't hate humans because of what they did to others of his type. The R-7000 or Ravagers were specifically designed for war and incredibly effective at it, and many of them stayed with Anubis till the end.
Ram understands that humans would be worried about Ravagers and Bastion's models and, while he is obviously categorically against the extermination of those too, that isn't actually his problem with humans.
It's the random attacks and killings of ordinary Omnics that are radicalising him. If it was about the R-7000s or Bastions, he would have started Nullsector much earlier, but while those were being systematically hunted to extinction, he decided to go to the monetary.
What broke him were later attacks on Zenyatta by a human mob where he almost died in Ram's arms.
These kinds of attacks on Omnics that were just ordinary people, that's what makes him hate humans.

What is an awakening?
So the Omnics (robot characters) were originally mindless servants, a rouge virus known as Anubis effected all omnics except Echo, who was shut off in time, and Aurora who was designed similar to Echo as a robot capable of evolution. The virus made the Omnic murderous and they killed humans across the globe, the awakening describes Aurora sacrificing herself to share her learning software to all Omnics having them awaken not as machines, but as people
When he gained sentience
When the Omnics gained their own consciousness and free will after being freed from the control of the Anubis god program in the middle of the war, thanks to Aurora. Which is why it happened mid battle for him, giving him his own choice to continue fighting or not
