One thing I find myself thinking about a lot is a quote I saw attributed to Elvin Jones saying that he had about 20 different sounds he could get from a cymbal. I'm always listening for the way something resonates when I hit it with a particular part of the stick.

Hello everyone yeah it's crazy hey . From Bow to the bell 🔔 ring rings tin ting a tingna doubles ect in sequence with the sticking ... ie R L RR L R LL parradiddle S or Doubles ... taking a bowe that's used with certain string instruments, villolin Chello for instance we do this on the edge of a cymbal gives amazing sounds aswell. Cymbals in water give amazing results but I don't think stage managers will like percussionists taking say 44 gallon drums up on stage full of water.
Oh and it's that very area that drummer's are very live ie ,,mics a lot of power lurks behind us on the up stage area of a stage .so I'm aware that would be one problem sound guys would be Not On my stage are you having swimming pools full of water any near my stage 🤔 unless you want this to be our last act .
Yep that sounds sound to me . LOL 😆
Drummer's we are so greedy for desk tracks that sometimes there will be just a desk for the drummer. That the sound produced by the sound engineer is just unreal 😍 gotta love ❤️ it... km of cabling heaps of microphones usually equals one hell of a show .

It's not just where you hit but also the follow through. You can make a cymbal sound drier and reduce sustain by continuing contact onto the cymbal. Not viable for whole beats but It can be a good substitute for a cymbal mute if a HARD mute isn't required or your other hand can't get there. Plus cymbal scrapes with nylon tip sticks. And the butt of the stick makes a ride more washy (holding the stick backwards). And if you want a cheat-code for quiter crash beats just choke up your grip on the stick where your index and thumb are about halfway. And you have extra bell noises if you hit the stick perpendicular to the Edge of the cymbal. And this is all possible with 1 cymbal and 1 stick with no modifications, tampering, or microphone. Potential sounds from 1 cymbal (especially a ride cymbal) are theoretically infinite. 20 sounds with a naked cymbal and a 5AN drumstick is child's play

Good lesson. The high-hat open and half-time were the most striking examples. Amazing how you can totally revitalize a beat with a new hat placement.

That right hand on the snare was all kinds of tasty...
I've been following your channel for a couple of years now and one way I've measured my progress is by how much of your content I can a. Understand and b. Play. Great content as always, my dude.

Haven't watch one of your vids in awhile (working my paradiddles). While this isn't your most difficult of lessons, one thing is very clear to me, your timing is just better✌.

You are good bro and I knew that when I subscribed bro .
I'd love session with you . If you ever come to Perth WA I can put you up at my property and get you round as fellow musicians take out hats off to each other's capabilities when we play live . My cymbal case was missed placed in a venue, as sometimes it dose .
Another drummer offered to loan me his as they we're playing next .
I did find mine thankfully, I've since helped out others out and with the genuine players ,it about the music and listening to all the little and big things that we hear ❤️

John x does a funky stickings lesson with an inverted parradiddle groove. It sounds great and would be awesome if you maybe did a lesson expanding on that kind of theme......, just saying ;)
Great lesson as always, thank you!!

I had my very first jam last night.....holy crap is it different from my tryhard practices, I took your tips about supporting the music etc etc and it went well, but damn, I only got to play like a third of the cool chops and stuff I have learned, I now have a very basic understanding of how it could become boring, Ill take these tips under advisement also, cheers dude.

Dynamics. Play chops around the vocals while keeping the beat, accentuate notes, louder and quieter, roughs and fills in the gaps, keep the groove, play to the music. It's called feel. The drums are an instrument, not a metronome. Make it come alive....

Take a hook, guitar, bass or keys lick or musical section of the song and turn it into a groove. Play your own thing, You are creating your own version of the song how you see and feel it.
