- Hello The Way We Wore Fans,
Doris sits down and talks with FIDM Museum Curator Kevin Jones on his work Sporting Fashion, which is a catalog detailing women’s fashions in sportswear from 1800 to 1960. In part one Doris discusses the work that went into researching, sourcing, documenting, and creating a currently touring exhibition of women’s sportswear garments and accessories. We will follow up with an episode on museum restoration and storing clothes in the following week. We hope you enjoy this special episode as you get an insight into what it takes to create a fashion exhibition and the decade of research and sourcing that goes into something this detailed.

My mother was a professional athlete AND a fashion icon so this episode and book are perfect for her. The amount of work that went into this project is mind boggling. A labor of love.
It is mind boggling and world class!!
What a fabulous connection with your mother. I’m sure she will really appreciate this book.
Happy Holidays!

The library here had the book! Beautiful ❤
Two of my favorite things history and fashion. I loved that class in college. It was a lot of writing and reading but I loved it. I also used info from women in my family from there photos. I'm lucky because we have lot of things in a museum in Southern California.
What a wonderful show! My dream was to attend the school back in the 80’s and I never did but looking at this layout of this book Wow! ⚡️ sparks ⚡️ of inspiration!

Wow wow wow thank you both. Incredible that you were able to find whole outfits. I hope to see the tour in person.
Fascinating. I love that Serena did the foreword for the book, as well! Perfect marriage!
Looking forward to part 2. Thanks.

I’d like to know when it’s time to give up on a piece of vintage clothing. When is something so far gone it’s not worth keeping or restoring. I have what I think is a crocodile bag that was my mother’s and so much of the skin has worn away. I loved my mom but I’ve been hauling this thing around for 20+ years and how do you restore an animal skin??? Also, what do you do with a moth eaten vintage piece? I feel terrible putting it in the trash but what else can you do? Have a burial? Thanks, Peggy
Hi:
Animal skins can be replaced on your Bag. Check with your Drycleaner or Shoe repair, they may know of somebody that can do the work. It may not be cheap. But it can be done.
Moth eaten? Once eaten....
If a garment was so desired yet worn out, I would consider having a duplicate custom made. It can be reverse engineered from the pieces.
Doris you are a classic beauty nice 🎀💜👒
I really learnt a lot from today's episode. Some of the outfits don't look that practical for exercising in.
✨⭐✨💞💖💞💖💞💖💞💖💞✨⭐✨
You need more lighting.
