We got to go to the Don The Beachcomber Tiki Heaven in LA in the ‘80’s before it closed. We ordered their large rum drink served in a shell that you shared with straws. They’re food was pretty good too but they were known more for their famous presentation of the drinks served served in a large shell. We went with another couple that night. It had low lighting at night so I got to appreciate the decor better with your vlog. Thanks for catching them before they closed down. Jah was as cute as always and your positive energy is always a great way to face each day. ❤️🙏🏻🐕🦺🌈
This is one example of the great work you are doing in your vlogs to preserve history. You are doing a vital service by contributing this memorabilia back to the public. Thank you so much Jordan! You really can't put a price tag on what you are doing - it's priceless.
Thank you so much! I found out about Don The Beachcomber from Doris Day (ps she turns 96 Tuesday!) who had been a few times. It is such a shame that gentrification (which equals BORING AND UGLY) destroys everything it touches sometimes. Like these priceless venues. They just do not happen anymore.....I am so grateful to you for going right down and showing the last one to us. Jason
Boy, I hope someone took all that art work and put it somewhere for the future. The place is amazing! In a blink of an eye our history rolls up it's sidewalks and is gone forever. How is America going to have a history if we constantly close the doors, knock down the buildings, pave over the land..... Thank you for showing us this place. Knowing it is probably gone by now, makes me sad.
I'm so upset to lose another historical landmark such as this! Justin Scarred and Adam The Woo are going to be wrecks about losing this. Justin comes here a lot. Thank you so much for going at the last minute Jordan!
wonderful vlog; it saddens me to know it's not there anymore, but how lovely to get to see it, thanks to you. Your camera-eye encompasses all. What an incredible space, story, and history.
I don't know how I came across your channel, but I'm so glad I did! You are a master storyteller and I love Jah! Keep up the good work!!!
What a shame that place is closing. The decor is amazing. Hope they can keep and move all of the tikis, cool doors ,etc. So much work must have gone into the design and decorating! It must be heartbreaking to lose a place like that. Glad we got to see it. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful place.
Thanks for taking me to see another loss gem so sad! 😎
For the life of me I can not even say why I hadn't suscribed to your channel a lot sooner. I been watching your videos for months! I just suscribed right now.
I have to say, I enjoy your vlogs, it puts me in a relax mode. You affection for Jah is awesome! I'm a dog lover myself. I was feeling restless tonight and came into RUclips and boom! There was this new upload! Awesome! Glad to be here and glad to be a new Lion Heart! - Fred
Good vlog...I have been reading "The Garden of Allah" triology and Don the Beachcomber plays an interesting part in the story. Tragic that the restaurant is closing. Thanks for bringing Jeffry and his Italian wooden buddy to life...ha ha!
Thank you for documenting these places before their gone. This place was sooo much fun!
I really enjoyed this, even if it was bittersweet. If it wasn't for you going to vlog it, I would have never known what it looked like inside...a paradise! 🌺
Thank you, Jordan!!!
Once again as Joni Mitchell said"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" All I have to say is the rats did it again and torn down a great place. So sad. Thanks Jordan for showing it for the last time.
Thanks, Jordan! The decor in this place is awesome! How sad that it’s all gone now.
Thanks for taking us there Jordan. So sad such a Cali gem will be laid to rest. Would have loved to experience the ambiance.
Come to Florida. Beachcomber tiki bars are all over the place! The Keys is the perfect place.
Great Video Jordan. It was nice to meet you and thanks for the support!!
I'll check out your channel!
My Dad used to talk about the Flying Burrito Brothers playing at the Palamino in North Hollywood.
What a great vlog - and documenting our lost past too. How terrible that they closed this place. Such a landmark!! Thank you, Jordan.
It makes me cry inside, seeing these good old unique and fun places all over the Los Angeles counties being destroyed !!! My parents were great always taking us kids to such interesting places, we were very fortunate. Thanks for all your videos in LA and Europe. Thanks Jordan 👍🏼
My mom and dad would get dressed up and go there with friends! They went to one in Hollywood I think. She wore her mint green chiffon cocktail dress, with flippy high heels! We called them Marilyn Monroe and Paul Newman! She always brought us little drink umbrellas and olive swords! Made me cry! 😎
I suppose there are million dollar condos there now. So sorry to see this place go.
Miss Don the Beachcomber 🥲
Wow did this bring back memories! Many moons ago, I used to go to the one in Redondo Beach when I lived there, however, they are practically identical (or were). I got choked up a little when I saw this video. I stopped when you got the the large room. I went to eBay to see if they still had any memorabilia left and found a wonderfully illustrated and colorful original match book from Don The Beachcomber in the day for a song. For art work, really I would have chose it regardless. When it arrives I am going to find the perfect frame (I see a vintage one, with big, well sanded, black heavy wood and glass with a white silk back). I am going to treat it like the little treasure that it is. Just like you treated this place on it's last day, Jordan. That's why you have so many admirers, because you give a hoot! Goooooooooooooooooooooood bye! 🌊🐠🐟🐡🙋♀
Thanks so much for posting this. I just got into tiki bars and live nearby this closed bar / restaurant. Soo sad it’s gone 😢
I will miss this location, I remember coming to Sam's Seafood as a kid...
Great vlog here in Waikiki we have a Trader Vic’s at the old International Market Place in 1934. Interior and exterior was very similar to Don the Beachcomer however it was a very beautiful vintage like settings. Don Ho use to sing there many years ago. It was at a time when tourism in Hawaii was booming and with Hawaii Five -0 series Jack Lord put Hawaii in the map
Thanks for posting this. Miss going to my local tiki bar occasionally, think it really fit into our little surf town.
Dons. Yet another So Cal long time mainstay for good music, good food, good drink, and good Ohana, succumbing concrete faceless greed. How typical of the times. I still have one of the original, Tiki glasses that my folks brought home in the 60's. I remember celebrating there when I was accepted to PT school in the 80's. I hope they reopen soon at another location, before the current (and next) generation forget what real So Cal culture was like, during a fun and innocent time. Thanks for all your efforts in getting this vlog up, Jordan!
So sad! Such an uplifting place. I think a visit there would lift my spirits.
What a bummer, thats so sad, but it's awesome you vlogged it. ❤
Thanks Jordan, have a great day!
I hope some of those decorations can be preserved somewhere. Or sold to fans of this place. Thank you for showing us around
I love the theme of this place. As usual Jordan another great vlog and thank you my friend...
"Give me a beer stupid" lol. What a cool place. Shame I'll never get to see it in person. But thank you Jordan for sharing this awesome place with us 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
So glad that I got to finally see the inside of this place. Never got to go there on any of my trips to LA!
So, so sad they demolished all this.
Aww what a shame ! Love tiki themed stuff ; sad it’s being demolished 🙁. Seems the 21st century is not as good as it should be all the old things going . What a cool place though thanks for taking us there ! It’s a shame they can’t sell some of the decorations or able to move somewhere else . 👍🏻🦁😎💙🎥🎬🐶🇺🇸🌴👍🏻
Sally Louise , the 21st century seems to be turning out to be the age of greed, price gouging and evil businessmen and evil billionaires. Just sad. Nobody seems to enjoy life anymore.
How awesome is (was) that place?? Also..jealous of your weather, happy for nowheresville, OH traffic.
So glad you did this Jordan! My husband and I were driving up the coast from San Diego a bit ago and drove past this place, discussed that we needed to make a separate future trip and visit Don's....now it's closed!!! UGH...
Aww, that's sad . I wish they wouldn't tear places like this down . People do still love them . I know I do . They still have places like this down in Florida too . When you showed the water fall , it made me think of Elivs' jungle room . Everyone makes fun of that room , but I like it . Well darn...Thanks Jordan for sharing this great vlog !!
Oh I meant to tell you Happy Easter Jordan & Jau !!! 💗
I was curious about this version of Don The Beachcomber. The original one, on McCadden Place in Hollywood, just east of Highland Ave., was our family's go-to place for special occasions all during the 1940's, '50's, and on until it finally closed in 1994, due to earthquake damage. I well remember the misty rain showers and ambience. I always ordered a Shirley Temple and my parents got Navy Grogs. Those fancy drinks with umbrellas were fabulous. One night when we were there, the Gabor sisters and their mother were all at the next table. I can still taste our standard order: lobster Cantonese, rumaki, pork fried rice, spring rolls and spare ribs. This all tasted like.... well, the best thing you've ever tasted. When I go to heaven, I'll get to eat there all I want!
Love this stuff, and really lovin' the waterfall. I would totally have that in my house!
my parents told me how they used to go to the original Don the beach combers in LA back in the late 40's early 50's when they lived in westwood
Great vlog Jordan! Such a shame that's it's no longer there. Same goes for the Tihitian Village and the Luau and The Bahukas! I really miss all of those places!! 🤙
LOVED this!!!
Good stuff... thanks for sharing!
Outstanding vlog Jordan. And...... in the nick of time...... While this has been vlogged before, I believe this to be pretty significant, and particularly interesting given the anticipated closure the weekend of. Honestly, I would be surprised if the content were not picked up by one of the local news stations..... Anyhow, I really enjoyed it, and I am a bit saddened that I never checked the place out while living in the area. So much missed opportunity and regret, but you managed to bring me along, and I got to see and experience it afterall.... Thanks for being a friend Jordan..... Arthur Childs, Oak Harbor, WA. 🙂
Nooooo! Don't close it. My bad for never making it there. Thanks Jordan for the showing this. Give Jah Pats.
Sad that all that will be demolished. Any chance that some of it will be salvaged? One of those signs would be a great souvenir.
Really nothing more sad than when a OG tiki bar closes, nothing like these places now days.
That's a shame that this place was going to be torn down. It was so colorful and pretty inside it reminded me of Hawaii. I half expected that second tiki statue to come to life and talk!
I hope that they can find a new location
The detail is so amazing...so sad it will soon be just a memory in the wind
There used to be s restaurant bar in Rosemead CA, San Gabriel Valley, called Bahookas. It was just like the other tiki bar restaurants only the bar was a giant aquarium 🤩 Theres a Tiki themed steak house in Glendale called Damon's. It was opened in the 1930s as well. It's on Brand Blvd next to Portos Cuban Bakery. It has great food, and the rum drinks. They were voted the best Mai Tai in LA. My favorite is the coconut shrimp!
So sad when places close. It looks like it would be a cool place to go. Jah looks so adorable. Thank you for the vlog Jordan. Much love❤❤
That is so crazy I was just there on st pats and it’s now closed.
Don the Beachcomber place has such a kool look u auto go in2 chill mode.. its like being in another country. Its my style of chillaxing What a total waste. So glad u vloged it Jordan. Wonder whatz there now?
If you ever make it to Fort Lauderdale visit the Mai Kai restaurant
There was a Don Beach Beachcomber at the International Market Place , in Honolulu ,Hawaii.
Jah, you're such a ham! Shame to hear that Don's is closing down. Such an exquisitely themed tiki bar.
What a pretty place,such a shame...have a nice evening..thank you Jordan.
Always come thru with good vlogs!
Leisure World=Retirement home.
Thank you! Enjoyed!
Great but sad vlog. To bad all the great vintage places are closing down. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Easter
Hey Jordan just checked out Banyans Adventure and according to him Don’s x is still fighting to keep it open one way or another
Cool place. Sad it's gone
Memories....of the way we were.....it's very sad when they close down places that locals get attached to. Society wants everything new and shiny.
BORING!!! Developers forget that places like that are memoiries to people that go on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing this. Would had love to go there myself.
Jah looked so CUTE!!! ❤❤
Very cool, Thank You...
I think I've heard the name Don there Beachcomber . I'll have to learn more about him.
Love me some Jah... Thank you!
Sad to see a place like this close down, especially if it's still in demand.
Looks similar to Jimmy Buffett's Beachcomber restaurant that closed in Waikiki a little over a year ago.
What a cool place! Sad to see it go!
Jah is like, no, you are embarrassing me! Paws over face!
Drove by hundreds of times but never been in there.
Hay jordan howmany days need ....??... for next trip.????
Sad this place is going looks super cool 😎
Great vlog! Love tiki bars! Anyone know if they re- opened any where else?! The more kitchy the better!! lol
Feel bad its close ing always thought we go there and spend a bunch a party for calif blogers......mrs d.t
Great Video!!.. Thank You!!!
That is not smog! This is early morning low clouds low clouds in Huntington Beach.
Sad this is gone.. You need to visit the Tonga Room In San Francisco while it's still here.
I love seahorses! All the bamboo and wood....OMG this is sad. People just don't know what is cool anymore.
What was that kids RUclips channel
Banyan's Adventures
suzy riding thank you
For Sure! I checked it out and the kids pretty cool. He gives a fantastic history of Don the Beachcomber's.
It's a shame that there will always be someone who just wants to change a familier place just to line their pockets
JAH...THOSE EYES...THAT TAIL..IS ALL WHAT IS NEEDED SO SEE YOU UNDERSTAND EVERY THING JORDAN IS TELLING YOU...WISH I COULD GIVE YOU A BIG HUG LOVELY DOG
Looks like it may be moveable?
You saved a lil Bit of History lost
It's such a shame that they are closing places with real character (like Don's) and replacing them with soulless rubber-stamped franchises.
Sad to see it go. Up for redevelopment. If it was in the UK they would stick houses on it.
They are. They are building condominiums
That was pretty cool!! Looks like it would be a lot of fun at night!! Another cute Jah day :)
Cool video :)
❤️
Never be sorry for those that
Jah sure looks like he is ready to start his day, so much energy! Our "government intelligence" in Winnipeg has decided that they will be taxing our booze and beer now according to the cost of living-go figure!
That was pretty.
Like La Mariana in Honolulu. Too bad it's closing.
