Plein air pencil sketching overlooking the Fal River at Trelissick in Cornwall. A lovely time spent sketching with pencils in the evening on the 1st July.

Hi Andrew ... Nice sketch! ... I found it interesting how you used the three pencils as the main tonal values ... It just shows that keeping it simple makes for a good result ... The kneaded eraser asloworks well to create the lighter areas and a little smudging with a finger helps blend areas together ... Basil looked happy after his walk ...

Lovely sketch Andrew… interesting to see you use a 2H, as I usually have an HB as my hardest pencil (with 3B & 6B). I’ll have to experiment a little more perhaps. I was also surprised when you said that the 2H blended well. Is that just a feature of this brand? Thanks for sharing the video and good to see Basil enjoying the sketching outings as much as you do! 😊

Thank you very much. I wouldn’t normally go for a 2H but I found it very useful when used side on. It was very good for the boats so they weren’t too dark
