Anyone want to hear the backstory of how that Chain Chomp learned out to play tennis? I feel like there needs to be an expansion that goes in depth on this.

Though if I had to answer my own question, maybe it's the same way how Goombas are capable of swinging a baseball bat with any arm. As well, as other baseball equipment.
Every month there's gonna be a unlockable character via tournaments - July is koopa, August is blooper, so dry bones will come out eventually among others you encounter in the adventure mode
