- Intrepid journalist Yvonne Ridley is standing in her hometown of Newcastle-upon-Tyne as an Independent candidate against Chi Onwurah, the sitting Labour MP who abstained in a vote for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Here she updates us on her campaign and describes how attempts have been made to undermine her from people she thought were on her side.
So many dirty tricks by Labour, what they did to Faiza Shaheen was a disgrace, she could have won for Labour but neither she nor the Labour candidate will win now, but i've seen loads of Faiza posters no Labour posters, she'll at least beat Labour.
She shouldn't' have wanted to be in Labour though. It was clear who they were long before

Why should I change my vote and not Starmer is right wing policies?
I would like to see the left do well in this election. Never has the need been so great. Up and down the country what I see is a vote split, often legitimately, frequently by design. Seats that could have been won, lost. The system isn't designed for independents, especially as most voters pay minimal attention to politics. Hopefully I am wrong and many people are elected. After the election, a longer term view and strategy is necessary. Will the left ever unite?

A 13min video and I didn’t hear one word about standing for Newcastle issues or Newcastle residents, of course bl00dy gaza was mentioned, a piece of land over 3,000 miles away that only one group of people care about…this is happening in too many cities across the country.

Sorry you found my comment negative Ash. Never heard of Yvonne before the 1st video and was excited to be able to vote for someone Chrisbin recommended. Unfortunately I was surprised by what I managed to find online. Just hoping for some of these concerns to be addressed. Is it's wrong to not want to be represented by someone who uses genitals and religion in their criticisms? If someone did that to her I'd think they were double prejudice (Gender & Religion).
How is gaza the central issue of a UK election? If both party's tomorrow came out tomorrow and said we demand a ceasefire, you wouldn't get one would you.

Because there is a regional war on the horizon and Britain will participate in defending Israel. The USA has already said they are doing so and we will always follow them into Hell. If you are paying attention then you can foresee a terrible future with a Labour led government. George Galloway has predicted a wider war within 6 months too. Of course you should also as a human being want to stop the genocide of innocent children. It is unprecedented that we are watching such daily horrific images from Gaza. If you believe in God then you should start praying.
Because Palestine was UK MANDATED, before they handed land territory to minority Settlers Zionist movement, Arthur Balfour Declaration. Now it needs resolving properly, Israel has lots of Apartheid system in place, and does not like being criticized.
It's vitally important to push back and resist after more than 20 years of US/UK led interminable wars. In Post 9/11 war zones tens of millions have been killed while the number of displaced must be 39 million, going by the data. The invasion of Iraq unleashed ISIS which was relatively insignificant and marginal prior to that. In Libya we backed extremists; the Manchester bombers had surveillance measures lifted and passports returned enabling them to train with one of many Al Qaeda aligned militias backed by Britain. We backed extremists in Syria. Cameron called them Moderate Rebels but couldn't provide any credible evidence to justify that claim. These wars have undermined states and international law, caused an ongoing refugee crisis, cost trillions. Now our so-called leaders are risking WWIII.
