Who gave the Ottomans the right to grant permission to jews to settle in palestine? In the first place, a permission will not be granted nor rejected if there was no request from anyone.
What do you mean settle there when no one lived? More than 2000 years ago when moses lead the jews to the "promised land" they were told by moses to enter. When they entered they saw people already living there. Those people they saw are the ancestors of the present day Palestinians.
Of course from both sides Palestinians and jews not only legal but moral also. They had been living side by side relatively at peace with one another until the Balfour declaration came in 1948. I did not claim that during the war there were not also terrible acts on the jewish side. What I understood from the war historian Milstein that was acts of individual and not policy above. He talk about how specifically in Deir Yassin was a deliberately exaggeration on the part of the Arabs leadership to cause the Arabs to flee. I also heard an interview with an elderly palestinian who said that Khalidi who was one of the Arabs leaders asked the people to exaggerate description. Regarding to Herzel first time I hear that he wanted to perform an ethnic cleamsing, in his book there is no mention such thing. I do not blame all the Arabs for all the pogroms they committed agsinst the jews during all the years even before the war. The massacre in 1921 and in 1929 and in 1936, and the pogroms in the Arabs countries like the Farhud in irak and like the Trital in marocco. Only when the jews committed terrible things, only then all the jews blamed.
