That's me at 58 seconds in with the bo and chucks. It took us 13 hours to film that scene from the time Done walks in until I get kicked in the head. They have to film it from every angle, over and over in case something does not work and the need to cut to a different angle. When he kicks me, his foot is a good three feet away from me, but it looks like he hits me because the camera has no depth perception. One time, Don forgot his lines and we had heard them about a million time by then, so everyone in the room yelled out "He's gonna butcher the girl" HAHA Ah, the good ole days. Note too that the movie was called "Black Belt" because everyone who had any fight scene was a black belt or kick boxing title holder. Everyone in the scene I was in was a real bad ass in real life except me - I was just Don's buddy (oh and one guy was a lawyer). Yes, I am a black belt, but there were some great fighters in there. One interesting note, Manitus, the big bad guy in the movie, was the only person who wasn't a black belt! At the time I was 6', 200 pounds, and I held an air shield from him teaching him a roundhouse kick. When he hit the shield, he almost knocked me over he is so strong. And years before that, some guy held and air-shield up to his own thigh and wanted Don to kick it as hard as he could because he did not think leg kicks worked. Don tried to get out of it, but the guy kept insisting. Don kicked and he broke the guys leg - through the air-shield. Don has so much power and speed and most people don't realize it. He is the nicest guy in the world too, he never gets mad, not even in the ring. But the thing that makes him so great is his conditioning. I lived next door to him in Hollywood, and he went for a 10 mile run every single day no matter what he had to do that day. He and I went to a work out club and he got in the back of the aerobics room during two classes and he jumped rope the entire time (over an hour - jumping like pro boxers). To this day, he complains if he has to miss a workout and he is older than I am. Anyone who thinks Don is not the real deal, has not been hit by him or sparred with him. Anyway, I could go on for hours with stories about my brother Don. Most are of him acting like a girl, upset because he can't find his car keys, forgot to have someone pick him up at the airport (I'd get the call in the middle of the night) or something like that. He really is a kind and very smart person. He has a killer instinct in the ring and that is the only fault I have about him because he will hit people too late sometimes because once they start to go, he makes sure they are gone. So I guess that is good and bad, and if that is the worst I can say about him having known him for 37 years, then he is a great guy. Chuck Norris is another one - nicest guy, and funny as hell too. He does not say much, but when Chuck Norris talks, everyone stops to listen! I missing hanging out with both of them. I have a video with pictures of me and them on my site if you doubt me. Thanks for posting this - man what memories! I think I will email Don and say Hi.
I think nobody read you're comment untill now sir :)) I feel old. I grew up with movies like this one, and seeing how times have changed and the past is forgotten makes me feel old. When i watch old karate/kickboxing movie scenes now, I feel like I'm watching sf movies where people scream in space haha I saw Billy Blanks has a youtube channel, he has little over 400.000 subs :))
@@damiresq Thanks for responding - I used to fight in karate tournaments back when blanks did. He was a monster, but he would try to kill you to win. He did a forward - out of control - flip heel kick (yes, he flipped forward) on Keith Vitali, but Keith just stepped back and smiled. I think they disqualified Blanks for that if I remember correctly. Anyway, I think Blanks has so many followers because of his exercise videos. Also, it was Don who put Blanks in the movies. The guy bankrolling the movies liked him and gave him his own films. Don asked me to go back and be in another scene in Black Belt but I declined. Chuck Norris asked me to go with him to Mexico for three months and do a movie but I declined that too - I kicked myself for years on that one. By standing around for days - filming for hours - just to be on screen for a few moments was not appealing to me. I just don't have the ego and had a business to run anyway. Have a good one and keep the faith.
I ment B Blanks has very little followers for him inventing tae bo witch was very big deal back then but faded out slowly. I watch a mortal kombat player that has over 1 mil subscribers :))
@@damiresq Oh I get it. But in the RUclips world, 250K+ is a big deal and you make money. I have just 2,400+ and have never made a dime. I know people with around 500K who make a lot from their uploads. But I get your point.
Matthias Hughs, aka Nose Guy is incredibly awesome, especially in Bounty Tracker. Fortunately his mother doesn't go behind his back in that movie, so he doesn't lose any more fingers.
matthias hues is a magnificent athlete.....not the huge celebrity in north america that he probably should be...He is always the bad guy but is there anyone out there better suited to play THOR in the new Marvel Comics film by that name?
I really love in the beginning of the movie how this John "Sweet" character takes out 4 guys all on his lonesome...f--kin' awesome!!! But then kills women all cause they remind him of his mother WTF?!?!?
if matthias hues still looks like this then I think he should be the next movie THOR instead of Brad Pitt or anyone else they have in mind for the role.
its a fairytale after hes beaten a bunch of trained healthy guys in the gym he goes upstairs and starting messing up that ripped huge guy like he s just gotten out of the bed after 8 hour sleep
All those Martial Arts Champions in the opening credits, kind of made you think this was going to be really good...how wrong I was. I mean the bad guy actually said "Take her" as all he really wanted to do was cut his middle finger off.
@BillyLo1995 Yeah, i think you're right. His kickboxing record is flawless and his real kicks are amazing. But even for a B-movie, this bit looked horrendous. Everything apart from that was okay :/ At least Matthias was on top form :D
1:47 WORST TORNADO KICK IN CELLULOID HISTORY. that's like something an adult beginner would do in a taekwondo class. Come on Don, you can do better than that!
Don Dragon Wilson is so lame... OMG... Even in compare with Chuck Norris... How could he be a kickboxing champion? In what lame league? League of Noobs? Matthias is top class as always... He deserves some top movies...
Don Wilson is considered to be the best kick boxer since they kept records because he has beaten more world champions and top rated contenders, under more different rules, and in more countries than anyone else (all of that at the time of that movie). It was all documented by the Star Rating System, which was one of the most respected kickboxing rating systems in the world because they had to verify every single fight and opponent's record before including it. You may not like him, but sir, he is the real deal and that is from looking at the actual fights, who the opponents are, who they beat, and where (under what rules) the fights were held. He KO'ed more different champions and contenders with each hand and each foot, meaning he knocked them out right or left hand, right or left foot. He had knock out power in any limb. And he is a great guy, he really is nice. I think that shows through and so he does not seem like a bad ass. By the way Matthias, at the time of this movie, did not know any karate - I was teaching it to him on the set. Type in my Barry Harrell and Chuck Norris into RUclips and see a video I posted. I am in this movie at 0.58 seconds, so I really was there and know these people. Matthias is a great guy, but Don would knock him out. I have seen don't knock out many huge and strong fighters. Don't get me wrong, I really like Matthias too. He is really funny. Anyway, I just wanted you to hear it from someone who actually knows both men and worked out with them.
This just doesn't happen in real life!! If a gang of guys attack you unless they are the dumbest gang in the world they are gonna come at you all at once not one at a time!! Don't get me wrong I love martial arts movies but I always cringe when I see fight scenes like this 😬 just not very realistic!!
yeah, he has no technique and no grace. and if you look up some of his "kickboxing" fights,. theyre very boring too. I don't understand how he won anything,.
Hahahaha! I used to watch his movies and Cynthia Rothrock's movies back in the early 90's when I was into karate. Here is the irony: in real life, Don Wilson is probably a much better fighter than Cynthia Rothrock. Don Wilson was a champion of a full-contact combat sport. Cynthia Rothrock was never a champion of any combat sport (to my knowledge). She was only a kata champion, and kata competition is not combative. But Cynthia Rothrock's movies were SOOOOO much better! She was so much better of an action star than Don Wilson, whose fights scenes looked just plain boring. Maybe Don Wilson should have just replaced his fight choreographer after his first movie.
I think fight choreography and poor writing of his movies are at least partially to blame. Wilson's film career was pretty much B-Grade straight to video releases. The bottom end of the tier at that too. Rothrock at least got some better releases and quite a few of her movies overseas were mainstream. Also, Wilson never got to work with many of the best in the industry at his level whereas Rothrock has worked alongside some of the most known names in the business. With what Wilson had to work with, some of those films couldn't even be saved by the best martial arts actors in the world. Also, in the difference in their martial arts experiences, there was a point where film producers were actively looking for forms champions as actors because the crispness of their techniques would show better on film than professional fighters who will sacrifice showy form for effectiveness. That was definitely a hallmark of films in the late 1980s through the mid-1990s.
@@danielhaire6677 Funny, I choreographed the fight seen that starts at 0:58 (that's me with the chucks and bo). So I am only a little offended! haha Just kidding, but it is all true. Don is a hell of guy and amazing fighter.

I think that's the point of 80s and 90s action film goons. Mostly, all they do is shoot and miss, and only exist to get their asses kicked horribly.
