    Bought an 08 SS new way back when. New trans went in just a little over 100k miles but was having issues with it before. GM warrantied the trans. Eventually gave the car to my son and at 197k miles the engine started giving him problems. He didn’t watch the oil as I told him to. Sold the car to a mechanic that had an extra motor to throw in. Not a bad car though for the money. Suspension and brakes were nothing great but with a small block V8 it was fun. Defeat the traction control and it doesn’t pull left to right. With traction control on it feels like FWD torque steer which it isn’t. Have some fun doing FWD burnouts! Thanks for the video!!

      Yeah my dad has an 08 SS as well. I'll definitely be addressing the transmission when it goes. I've done some work to it since to help prevent premature failure. Also turned off DOD in the tune to give the engine a better chance. I'll continue to post updates! Thanks for the comment!

      The torque converters are too small for the cars, that’s why we have transmission issues.

    Great find! I had a 2012 Impala Ltz I bought used back in 2013 with just 30k miles on it. The car came from a rental agency. Loved that car and had one issue with it sometime in 2019 where the blend door started making noise, a common problem. I fixed it myself. I have a video of the repair on my channel. I sold the car with about 80k miles on it a few months later in Nov 2019. I have a 2020 Impala now. I never drove the SS versions of these but I know they are fast.

    Nice car! I have the same one except carbon fiber imitation. I have found it to be reliable, fast and fun to drive. I’m running AFM and have 150k miles on mine and it runs great. I put a few ounces of AT 205 in the engine every oil change to fix the valve guide oil burning issue. A trans cooler and some Lucas transmission fix (2 bottles) are keeping away the transmission demons. Did the fluid and filter at 100k.

    • @SargentRestoration
      @SargentRestoration  8 месяцев назад +1

      Nice, since this video I tuned out afm, installed trans cooler, installed transgo shift kit, tuned shift points to be quicker, removed torque management, disabled torque converter lockup in lower gears, removed speed limiter, upped rev limiter a tad, tuned for fans to come on sooner and some other small things. I've been dailying it since. I've put just over 3500 miles on it. I was at 131k when I bought it

      @@SargentRestoration that’s awsome! You are really improving the car. Mine was a smokey, wind up shifting mess when I got it and after adding the secret sauce I mentioned, she’s running like a top! I kept the trans cooler inline to the factory one. It covers about a quarter of the rad. Just so you know.

    Looks nice. I bought a 08 Grand Prix GXP about a year ago. I got it for $800. It’s a project car. I put about $3200 into it so far. It needed suspension work and brakes. Ended up upgrading all of the suspension and brakes. ZZPERFORMANCE makes a few parts for this platform. Enjoy the SS!
