I tried that and it didn't make much difference. I did end up finding out that it was the gears on the crank that killed the ring. ruclips.net/video/1_LGvjBK8bc/видео.htmlsi=7UHsGTacWPBqdz6F
The Forging is a Brod cut off where the Cast is a Part line the thud is from not having all the other parts off If there is still a thud after the parts are off would come From an inclusion in the steel or even a crack
@@xpsgarageI have all the parts for the 45 hp stroker engine that Cassler modifies...Nickasil jugs, scatt dual ign heads, cut case and Global case...also Millholland heads and carbs...etc....gotta get busy and build...:-) Just do not have a project currently...
Anxious to see your progress in this build. I want to build my own also. Thanks for posting these videos !!
Me too. I think it's going to be a fun project and maybe even an excuse to buy new tools lol.
Shouldn't you hang it by a wire and then tap it?

You are exactly right about the extra parts causing the thud. Took them off later and it rings like a bell.
Your hand was dampening the ring...suspend from a wire...then tap...
The gears on the crank were the main problem. Rings like a bell now.
