    Osphoric acid. Converts rust oxide to rust sulfide. Base ingredient of rust oleum. Even if you sand blast better to still coat. Rust is a cancer, pits the metal. To the microscopic level. Osphoric acid gets to places you can't see. Then paint. It's really bad for your eyes. Eye protection a must.

    I am in the very same situation but only changed the shoe adjuster and adjusted tension. The bolt is almost all the way in which indicates a worn chain stretching too much. Has 34k miles on it and gear oil was low too when I opened it. Will replace the chain soon and hope to report the same results

    My bike had a terrible rattle, the Rocker lockers cured my noise. My bike had more miles, everything had more wear. If you read the instructions they only cure the one problem the shaft hitting the bolt. They don't help with lifter noise, play in the rocker arms. Your bike had minimal noise to start with. Nice video.

    I've found that to access the instrument panel from the back you need to remove the tank cover. Also, it's easier to access or create additional holes in the firewall for wire routing if the tank cover is off. And, God forbid, if you ever have a tank leak......

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage 12 дней назад

      True access to the instrument panel would be easier. I had planned to leave it fastened with clecoes until everything was done but I know just as soon as I put in the rivets I'd think of one more thing I wanted to change. I've been working on it this morning and I'm going ahead with screws and nut plates. Should have a video later today.

  • @mattpoland8200

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage 12 дней назад

      I remember seeing some of his videos about that. I don't remember if it was the new or old ultracruiser but it seems like he was having leaks in the tank at the welds. I welded up my own tank so I guess I should probably use screws. LOL

    Ok. I like the videos. Really love them. Personally the nut plates in that area seemed like an overkill. My next question was structure. I have both the ultracruiser and h5 plans. I have not started the projects due to a few surgeries. I have had hands and shoulders operated on in the last 2 years. So structure up front kept me scratching my head. Access to wiring and rudder control not to mention fuel. Buddy I worked with sheet metal 20 plus years. Lol

  • @tntx2
    @tntx2 12 дней назад

    Regarding your first question I’d say it’s personal preference, more nutplates and fasteners add weight but it would look better to match the rivets. I would lean toward the 2” spacing myself. As for your second question, personally I would stick with the screws, it makes doing an annual inspection in the fuel area much easier along with any maintenance required. Yes you could drill out the rivets and no this panel would not come off often, but from a mx standpoint I don’t think you would regret it by going with screws.

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage 12 дней назад

      Thanks for the reply. I've been looking at pics of Ultracruisers and the spacing is all over the place so I think it is personal preference. Several I have seen had the screws widely spaced so I think I will go with a 3" spacing. That will put the screws next to every other rivet. That would also let me go back and add more if needed while keeping everything lined up. I will probably also stick with screws since I already have the side rails drilled and tapped.

      hi, let me start by saying that my problem is that I have the fan always on even when the engine is cold, I didn't know about this additional sensor placed under the radiator and it will probably be faulty because I recently replaced the thermostat with a new one and the cylinder head flange so these last two are new... I have never replaced the sensor that you say also exists on my engine which is located under the radiator... and in any case every time I drained the water from the system I didn't notice where this sensor is... is it by chance located near the water drain tap under the radiator, is it easy to see it and unscrew it or is it hidden by the intercooler or the fan?

    Very interesting! I have 3 8n`s that I use for work on our Thoroughbred farm. Yours is the 1st one I`ve seen with the oil filler on the same side as the carburetor! The horses are to lazy to pull implements or work ground! Have not yet figured out how to hook up hydraulics to the Thoroughbreds for lifting items! Some very good ideas in your video.

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage 17 дней назад

      That's actually just a vent with no way to add oil too it. When I was doing my valve adjustment I realized it was something that someone had added on and was a total hack job. It had always been there and I had never noticed other 8Ns didn't have it. It was welded right to one of the valve covers and in the valve video I cut it off and welded the hole up. If the horses are too lazy to pull I bet they really wouldn't like you trying to hook hydraulics to them. LOL

    Amazing Helpful videos! I have a shifter which will not return to center in an 01 C5Z, what I noticed is when you first took it apart it seemed to have a notchy neutral as you want back and forth. but then when it was reassembled it was very smooth back and forth in neutral, but still didn't seem to center. Does the shifter center itself when it was fully reassembled?

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage 24 дня назад

      I'm going to have to look at the videos and see what you are talking about. There are 2 thing that affect the neutral centering. There is a spring in the faceplate that does the centering and there is a spring loaded detent ball in the shifter box on top of the trans. Some people space the detent ball out so everything moves smoother. Google the antivenom mod. First I would check the box that the shifter handle goes into. I had one that wouldn't move freely and I just needed to grease the shifter assembly.
