If you lock every turn around the cleat, you might not be able to undo it if there's strain on the line. If you lock *any* turn, only lock the last. If the line is slipping, if the load is making its way 'round the cleat, then use more figure 8s. Also, you should start by going round the far horn on the cleat (to your right), so that subsequent wraps don't get trapped by the loaded end.
Corrected to a different, but still incorrect cleat hitch. Should wind up with one strand over two parallel strands. Final shot shows one over one over one.
Strange cleat, as others have mentioned. The whole point of doing the cleat properly is that everyone knows and understands it, so anyone can undo and redo the fastening without any mysteries. Also, not sure about the dock ring tie off, either...as this is the first video that shows up when searching the subject, that seems like a significant problem. The tie off for the ring should be quick release and easy to manage with one person and multiple lines. Having line wrapped around a thing multiple times, in a way that requires UNwrapping it rather than quick release, makes it trickery on yourself-particularly in bad weather-and especially tricky for someone else.
You walk around and take a look at how people tie up their boats to cleats, and no-one knows how. Including the guy in this video. If you want to learn how to tie up too dock cleats, you look at videos from sailing clubs and yacht clubs or marinas where they're dealing with million dollar vessels, and want to make damn sure those boats are secure.

Best you learn the knots yourself first before teaching others
Dock cleat was tied wrong in the how to portion but then it was magically corrected for the after part. :)

That's not a cleat hitch, I'm afraid !

Simple, quick and easy video. Thanks for that!
@Ralph Reilly I was mostly interested in the dock ring knot. Was there anything "wrong" in that tie up?
You did the cleat hitch wrong first and you fix it at 49th second. ;)
He changed it, but he didn't fix it. Both ways shown are wrong.
Very helpful, thank you
