Excellent video. I was able to get my original model ps4 working again after 3 years! Almost threw it out. It was stuck in safe mode and my power button had broke off. I dusted the inside and added the thermal paste like you showed, and now it runs quietly when it used to sound like a jet engine. Thank you!!
Can you go a bit more into detail about what state your PS4 was in? What was the main problem and what things did you try? Because your issue sounds pretty similar to mine
and thanks for posting went to upgrade hard drive to solid state got it apart and dont know how long its been broke but wont be able to put in safe mode to re install software
I managed to repair mine today!!!! Bought 10 button from AliExpress since they were so cheap first one didn't survive though.. it wasn't pretty but it works just nice It took me few hours because my soldering iron tip was bad? The tip doesn't get hot enough to melt the solider... Maybe i need better one Thank you
Glad you were able to do it! Even though it's SMD it's pretty easy, and pretty hard to mess this one up, so it's very forgiving even if you've never done something like it before :)
i am now this helped thanks again it worked and if i wanted to make it look good the 2 wires fit rite thru where the button used to be for the new button and new hard drive works loading software now cant wait to try out this ssd
Depends. You can get to the power switch just but taking the top part of the console off (the warranty sticker/screw on the top of the case, and then two T-8 screws under the HDD cover). If it looks broken like this, or you try to click it manually and it doesn't work, then you'll have to solder a new button in. The plastic button part could be broken, which would mean you don't have to solder anything, you can just get a replacement plastic button.
@@KILLERBUSHY If it's the physical button, like this video, you'll need to replace it. You can technically take the button apart and clean the contacts, but the button is only as big as a couple pieces of rice... If it's the PS4 that uses a capacitive touch, you could clean the contacts with a fiberglass brush, and the little metal prong that comes from the case (bottom/top). To give it a better connection to the touch sensor. Just make sure the metal prong is bent properly so that it makes contact with the contacts when you put the shell back together
@@KylesTinkering I did that but it is the button that is the problem and I now power on my ps4 with the controller an it has a problem with the 9.60 update now
My first video from you. I like your style and enjoy fixing things myself. I have one suggestion though. Sometimes you go a little too fast in explaining some things. I know you are fixed on "youtube" time, but some things do get lost. But all-in-all, GREAT content.
I attempted to replace the power button and destroyed the pad. I wonder if I can still fix it. But it may involve running a new ground and new power. Picking up some solder mask too. I’ll let you know How I make out. Probably a few weeks
My power button doesn't click when you press it. It has no resistance, just there. I opened it up and the power button plastic is fine. So I am guessing that little power button you soldered onto the board, mine must have fallen off or something. I can't get my PS4 to turn on at all, even with my controller cause it's not paired anymore lol. Controller just flashes white. I can use the ps4 controller on my pc though at least.
You can pop a disc in it and it'll turn it on. If it doesn't then you've got something else wrong xD Or connect it to the PS4 using a USB cable and it should power on/sync when you press the PS button again
@@KylesTinkering Good thinking. I had to dissasemble it again and use the screwdriver to manually eject my disc, but it turned it on once i inserted again. youre a legend. subbed

what if dont have supply of power buttons can i jus attach two wires and attach to diff kind of button or do all four points need to be connected i figure jus ground an power
You can use any kind of button and run some wires. You don't need all four points, you can see the bottom two pads, closest to the hole, are connected and are ground, one pad doesn't connect to anything, and the last pad goes to a via
Hi name my is Jake , I have a ps4 and the controller won't connect to the system I've tried every cord out there and multiple controllers. The USB port will charge the controllers but will not connect to the system do you know what it may be?
Most likely it's your bluetooth/wifi module, that's soldered to the board. (if you look at 9:15 in the video, it's the silver rectangle in the bottom left corner). Your wifi probably doesn't work either, good way to tell if this is the issue. I've had luck where I got a PS4 in that had some stuff spilled on the system and got into the solder balls under the module, hot water and soap cleaned it and got it working, but that was just lucky that it was an easy fix. You should still be able to use a wired controller (needs to be 100% wired only). The PS4 will connect through USB first, just to pair it to the system, and even if it's connected through USB, it will switch to a bluetooth connection. So if you use a wired controller, it will still work. Otherwise, the module may need to be replaced.
@@KylesTinkering I'm gonna try it out and see what happens and I belive something may have been spilled on this one as well so it might be the same problem ill update you and let you know im pretty good at fixing things that I understand but ps4 is a new project for me thank you for reaching out.

The video is about half an hour long, there wasn't a lot of off camera stuff, so maybe 20-30 mins. It would be less but it takes time to record and set up the camera shots
It seems like a tutorial on how to risk destroying a motherboard. Dude, change products, to desolder use a suitable fine tip, in addition to flux so as not to risk doing damage to the motherboard. I have seen the whole video and it is undoubtedly bad as a video, because you have brought streaks on the plate by making a good weld, but at the same time ignoring that by doing so you risk a lot. We need to be more careful, people follow you, if they see you doing this they think it's all simple and easy and repeat your same actions. For those who follow the channel, it's not wrong, but you have to use certain products.
Sorry, I don't do this as a service. You could try to contact any local game store or phone repair store. Would probably be cheaper than trying to use an online service, because of shipping.
