He said death RATES not the amount. Thomas Sowell really does his research. He was born in segregation and went to Harvard. You’d be surprised of how much people don’t know or want to admit this. He’s not trying to justify it. He’s just being honest.
Exactly. It was a total between western people because the Americas did not go to Africa. It was the south Americans that went Venezuela all that the Caribbean’s they went and got the slaves and sold them to the cotton farmers and the tobacco farmers in America.
And for the record my family is from Ireland we never own slaves never had anything to do with it, so why am I getting persecuted for something that my family never did
I don’t think he does, there was some work he did where he compares blacks in the US to Africans coming to the states.

I bought this audio book on Spo... and this is a pieced together chapter of his book, "Black Rednecks and White Liberals".
Concerning the people dying on the ships, consider this: you have 40 crewmen, 10 of them die every trip. You have 400 slaves, 40 of them die every trip. That's 25% of each the crew and the slaves. Keep in mind, the crew has no natural immunity towards Western African diseases, minor or major. After listening to this chapter of his book, there's a LOT more to the story. The majority of slaves who were ever thrown overboard were because of Arab slave traders who were being hunted down by British warships. Warships that were sent there to stop the slave trade.
The biggest thing to know about Thomas Sowell is that his source references are vast and factual. In his books, he is presenting historical facts without a modern bias. Here's the history, do with it what you will.

Also just so you know the Portuguese were the largest slave traders in Africa. Hence why all of Brazil which is mostly black speaks Portuguese not Spanish

What Dr. Sowell stated was factual and accurate. The rate of death was the same for both groups; however the number of black deaths was greater than whites.

On the ship's you have it backwards the Africans would be in the dozens while there would be hundreds of men on these ships. Remember that All Ships had three calls or Bells which gave you a six to eight hour shift, most slave ships were galleys which hold between 200 and 300 men depending on where they come from. So it would make sense that out of those hundreds a few dozen would die equal to the few dozen slaves that they were selling. Remember that an African slave was sold before between 20 and 40 lb of gold and wood quite valuable hints needing a large number of men to protect them

The thing with Thomas Sowell is that he isn’t making these videos to inform you. He is telling you this to lessen the hit that slavery has.

You talk about the cash reparations. Well, the 1st nail in the coffin regarding cash payouts was driven in just a couple days ago when the Dem Governor Newsome of California rejected the idea.

Everyone that sees this should also watch the videos about the black slave owners. Sone are very detailed in who they were and what they did
The past and present inhabitants of this world were/are certainly cruel to one another. I would like to point out that after we fought and won our independence from England in 1776, the Northern states took steps to abolish slavery, Southern states as you know did not. So, who and how do you hold people today accountable that never had ancestors that were slave owners. What happens to the descendants of black slave owners, are they to be held accountable and give all their money to you. How do you know the slave owners had poor white people working for them? I'm sure some did not. Did black slaves help the owner, were they Uncle Tom, or Sambo? There's so much more to learn on this subject, and much new information has come to light since they are digitizing historic paper records, and making them searchable in computer databases. Allows us to paint a more accurate picture of times past. I dare you to check out Sowells' video of the Arab slave trade, I'll subscribe if you do.

@@AlexisLopez-pb8ms I've watched this video hundreds of times. I like to hear the reactors perspective. My comment was directed to Wayne & Chrissy. I wasn't criticizing Sowell, and I definitely get the concepts in all his videos.

It was the same percentage, not the same number that died.
Hand out reparations to everyone that was enslaved will mean everyone will pay everyone reparations. Every race was enslaved at one time or another. So where do you start. African slavery is something you are very emotional about and that is a good thing. Slavery in Africa is alive and well today so slavery hasn't been abolished world wide.

Cause people in the middle-Eastern countries are not prosperous. It's that simple. People resent whoever has it better than themselves, generally speaking. That applies to both individuals and demographics.

I think he meant in proportion to the slaves. Like let's say 30% of the 100 slaves & 30% of the 20 to 40 man crew would not survive the voyage to wherever it was that they were headed.(I have no idea about the number of crewmen or how many slaves these ships could carry) There were millions of Slavic people taken from Eastern Europe & put into slavery over the Centuries from Western Europe & especially from the Arab States that the root of the word Slave comes from the Slavs...the Slavic people. "Where's your Slav...Where's your Slave" Slav became Slave an umbrella term for all who are put into slavery. Kind of like "People of Color" is an umbrella term for everyone & anyone who isn't White. Does anyone else find it weird that these Rich"Liberal" Elites keep changing how you can refer or call American Blacks. Except this time they've made it so all non-Whites are lumped in with American Blacks to segregate from Whites & create divisions. To distract us as they usually do & on the down-low, the Democrats are paving the way for the Hispanic people who already are a bigger percent in the USA's population than the percent of American Blacks. Democrats are allowing thousands to illegally cross the border everyday.(or you can say the Democrats are allowing thousands of votes for them cross the border everyday) Ensuring not only to get their vote, but to have a much larger demographic of minority & they will supplant the American Blacks as the Democrats number one minority group to cater & give lip service to.
Not a historian you must not be a mathematician either although you shouldn't need to be to know the difference between death rates and the the total number he's referring to them having the same percentage of deaths not the same total #
