    It's true (obviously) that almost everything is done via the touchpad, or the thumbwheels. As a Tesla owner (Model S) I can tell you that this is fine. It's all "set it and forget it". You can have a bunch of driver profiles, and switching between them is just picking your name from a list. You set your seat, steering & mirrors to where you'd like them, and it gets saved with your profile. Once you've got it all set up, you don't need to mess with it. You shouldn't be farting around with stuff like mirror adjustment while driving anyway.
    Temp is auto. Lights are auto. Wipers are auto. Because most things are memorized or automatic, you don't need to mess with it, so having them tucked away in submenus or pop-up dialogs makes perfect sense.

    You don't need a physical button for just adjusting your mirror, that will be useless after you adjust your viewing angle. If the screen or the tech inside can do it digitally, no need to add physical button. Do you want a physical brightness button on your smartphone?

    • @seanz6586
      @seanz6586 6 лет назад +1

      Jek haha. Good point. Besides, people shouldn’t be adjusting mirrors and steering wheel when driving anyway.

  • @jakepolo1680
    @jakepolo1680 6 лет назад +4

    Yeah, okay, There is a lot of navigation to adjust the side mirrors.... That's going to be annoying every 3 months when I feel like I need to adjust it :P and with the lux package you can save driver profiles so if you do have multiple people driving the car it's still not an issue

    • @douglasbkerr
      @douglasbkerr 6 лет назад +2

      Actually, the reviewer had that one small point wrong. To adjust the mirrors, all you have to do is reach down and readjust the power seat. Then, the mirror and steering wheel control pop-up on the screen. You just need to touch the screen as to whether you want to adjust the mirrors or the steering and then use the track balls on the wheel to adjust either one.

    • @AlexisDimes

      That’s a really good idea actually

    • @markplott4820

      jake - you can adjust mirrors from the Steering wheel and SAVE multiple profiles for each Driver.

    I would prefer a hatch back but it is what it is. I've owned a Model S for approaching 3 years and I still think the touch screen is a poor substitute for individual switches. Still what I've seen of it makes me think the Model 3 is a much better car than the Model S for me and I love my Model S. Production problems are over hyped, they have produced 5000 cars per week, before you know it that will be 10,000 cars per week at which rate it would take about a year to work through the current reservations, and they will continue to be placed. BMW should be worried.

    • @swanblake
      @swanblake 6 лет назад

      Dogphlap maybe a Chevy Bolt would be of interest to you if the badge can be overlooked?

    • @dogphlap6749
      @dogphlap6749 6 лет назад +2

      +Blake Swan Well the Bolt is a hatch back, and it's smaller than the Model 3 which for me are both points in its favour. However for road trips to Sydney or Melbourne or anywhere south of where I live I use the SuperChargers and they are fantastic, unfortunately nothing north of me yet (Tesla should extend northwards at the end of 2018 through 2019 maybe 2020). CCS charging is poorly supported here, fast charging is not the Bolt's strong suit and we have nothing to touch the SuperCharger network for non Tesla vehicles (limited though it may be). I could not buy a Volt anyway because they are not made in RHD and they may never be. As to the badge, GM in the form of Holden are a bit on the nose here since they shut down all local manufacturing (factories in the states of Victoria and South Australia) in 2017. Likewise Ford.

    • @douglasbkerr
      @douglasbkerr 6 лет назад

      Blake - As a current Model S owner, he will be placed at the head of the line for whatever Model 3 he chooses. The Bolt, unfortunately, competes in the economy market. It has few of the safety and luxury features that the Model 3 has.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 6 лет назад +1

      Aside from a similar base price and being electric, Bolt and Model 3 are not really comparable. Model 3 is better in many ways: much more efficient, much more comfortable, much better user interface, much better performance, the option of much longer range, and more. Drive both and see for yourself.
      Dogphlap, the main controls uses are either on the steering wheel stalks or buttons, or fixed positions on the touchscreen. I don't find it hard to use at all. The Model 3 user interface is arguably simpler and better than Model S and X.

    • @dogphlap6749
      @dogphlap6749 6 лет назад +1

      +Loanword Eggcorn I'd love to drive both but sadly GM have no plans to ship RHD Bolts or even Volts and the RHD Model 3 (for which I do have a reservation) won't ship before 2019. Fortunately I am a patient guy and there is no special inducements like a $7500 tax break or anything else to run out while I wait.

    NY Daily News Autos - the Tesla model 3 P75D Performance model can give the Budget Breaking model S a run for its money. and there are Multiple vendors making Aftermarket Performance parts and Racing Parts for the model 3 Performance.
    the model 3 is Lighter and Nimbler than model S, and model 3 just set a Speed Record at Laguna Secca raceway beating out the model S.

    Good work. The underlying tech is great and is what will drive the market forward. Now if someone can take the chassis, strip off the fripperies, make a hatchback variant well have the killer app. I don't think that it will be Tesla that's going to do that. They just can't produce the necessary volume.

      Tesla has been keeping it quiet about this but the Model 3 is actually built on newer architecture. It's MCU and other electrical hardware is quicker and more powerful. It's used latest battery tech (2170). The PM motor inside is more power efficient. Its design specifically for autopilot and a lot more. Tesla is used all experience from S and X to build a Model 3 after all. One day model S and X will get refresh too, but right now if you want a future proof. Model 3 is the only choice.

    • @markplott4820
      @markplott4820 5 лет назад

      TOSStarTrek - how Exactly ? TESLA batteries are the most Advanced in use Today and the LOWEST per kwh of all Commerical EV batteries. and the GF1 is not even reached capacity yet, only 1/3 of the Building is used. over 2/3 growth coming soon , lowering costs and the Ability to make a Complete CAR as well.

    • @MrLSDownliner
      @MrLSDownliner 6 лет назад +1

      N V if you drove one, than you’d find out that it’s a complete non-issue. The lack of instrument panel behind the wheel gives such a grand visibility when driving you barely notice it. How often do you glance at your mirrors or the navigation or radio? Yeah that’s all you need to see your speed, the gps, temp, music, and even the areas speed limit. Drive one and you’ll notice the screen is a mountain outta a molehill complaint.

    Lowest form of humans own a Tesla. Would love to see someone who has a $35k car. Impossible but the fanboys keep tugging Elon

    • @douglasbkerr
      @douglasbkerr 6 лет назад +6

      Blake - And you at first appeared somewhat normal in your other post. If you were familiar with Tesla, you would understand that all early production models are optioned up. Rather than extort dealer "markup" as traditional automakers do, Tesla requires mandatory options in order to post a higher initial profit. Given that 450,000 people still retain reservations for the Model 3, I think those "fanboys" will keep "tugging Elon." The base Model 3, with a 220 mile range battery is said to be released later this year. Get in line now for that $35K Model 3. Unfortunately, it looks like you purchased an economy car Bolt, so it's too late for you.

    • @jparks387
      @jparks387 6 лет назад +2

      Douglas Kerr I work at the tesla factory in Reno according to the post here the new model 3 will have close to 350 mile range and go from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. So as seems like this car is just getting better and better.

    • @jparks387
      @jparks387 6 лет назад +1

      SO O I had drove a Model S 100D. The speed and acceleration is amazing - that's about it. The giant touchscreen is distracting and Autopilot is just an adaptive cruise control with lane keeping with a fancy name. Certainly not worth $90k+ asking price.
