You don't get that a Windows XP computer's performance and OS is terrible compared to modern OS and hardware. It's also not very common anymore to find 14 year old hardware in store. You might as well build a 500$ and buy a Windows key for 13$ or buy them a nice 500-600$ laptop. It's not that expensive, assuming you live in the US.
Children are smarter than parents when it comes to technology. I remember my parents had parental control my laptop. Took me half a week to figure out how to turn it off, took me two days to download parent control on their phones as revenge.
Sorry, I was born in 2003 and when I have kids, I’m giving them the childhood I had, filled with DVDs and maybe cable. Add in a nintendo system in the second grade and give them an iPad in the 4th grade. Phone in the 5th Grade. I will not have them on the internet and on phones in their early childhood. Its DVD’s, comics, books, and toys galore.

It seems to me, but buying a traveling computer for children (as I understand it) or an iPad for fun seems a little silly to me. Maybe there is a cheaper option (just buy a smartphone)?
Okay, let’s be honest here, who on earth would ACTUALLY do this? You have to be able to trust your own child to have the responsibilities of having a computer, because if they start downloading “free FNAF” or “free Minecraft” or “porn”, then your child is definitely not ready to have a computer.
I have 2 kids. Both have an Intel Xeon W, 32 GB of RAM, a RTX 2080, 4 TB of storage, and I don’t care about the parental controls. I’m not going to limit them because society told me to. They’re going to discover it and there’s nothing I can do.
Lopsided Life Who said that trusting your kids means letting them watch porn? It’s common sense to let your kids have electronics, different from porn.

Wow... when I got my first laptop it had a 1 AMD ghz Athlon. And I would never put on parental controls, life doesn't have parental controls so the internet shouldn't either, but I would look at their searches from a remote tool or something.

When I was around 7 or 8 I dug out my grandfather's old and long obsolete Dell Dimension machine. It ran Windows XP, came with a 512 MB of DDR RAM, and didn't even support SATA. However, it actually taught me significantly more about computers than being handed a brand new system. I would dual boot different Linux distributions with Windows XP my free time and I had a blast with it. When I was a little older I got involved in the computer recycling program at my father's office, and there was a point where I took home around 10 towers that were getting recycled. I would fix them up, upgrade the hard drives to SSDs, and build awesome machines for my friends and family. I actually had an amazing setup for myself as the machines were still very capable and ran faster than most modern laptops. My point is, you don't need to spend over $1000 to have a really nice desktop computer. Some of the previous gen Dell OptiPlex machines are getting scrapped left and right from large corporations, and you can pick them up for close to nothing. Paired with an SSD and nice peripherals, you can have a VERY nice setup.
You can buy a second hand older iPad if iPad is the way forward. My second hand iPad Air 1 was £130 and still runs iOS 12 just fine (though its starting to get a little slow after 2 years of ownership). You could save at least £100 (usually more) if you buy an older one which might have a little blemish or two. Plus some refurbished sellers will give you the same length of warranty as Apple (1 year) or sometimes more.
When I first learnt programming, I made an profile for an iPad that would not allow restrictions to be enabled. So when my parents tried to enable the restrictions they were like why isn't this feature working??? I never told them about that 😂😂😂
They just need to make MacOS an open OS that they sell just like Windows. The hardware that’s in a Mac and what you pay for it is just bad. You can make a pc yourself that is better than a Mac for less. MacOS is a great OS tho.
My family has a desktop and when I say family I manly mean me and my dad because my mom rarely uses it same with my brother anyhow we shared up in till last year when I was going into high school Btw at the time I had started a RUclips channel and my dad had found out anyways. My dad one day went to best buy to go get something other than a laptop and before this you should know that I was planning on getting into photography and become a photographer and my dad had already brought up the subject. Anyhow back to the story so while my dad was at best buy he looked into getting me a laptop and then a hour later he called saying he got me a laptop and was bringing it home it was a laptop that had been returned and it was on discount by a little bit. Anyhow my dad brought it home and then r realised the laptop Hal the webcam at the bottom of the screen which was a problem since I used a web cam on my videos so my dad took it back to the store and got me a really good brand new one it was 4,000 I think but it's well worth it since I plane to use it in high school, possible collage If I go and into adult hood in till it goes bad obviously.
bruh... there is a tip. “well i need it because of school and (insert your hobby which will give you a job)” fun fact, i will tell that to my dad. for a macbook pro.
I wouldn't give a young kid a laptop. They can drop it and damage it. Desktops are better. If they need to use it a school, they can use an iPad or a school computer.
Through 3rd grade to 11th grade, I had a Chromebook for schoolwork. Once I was 7, I got an iPhone 3GS. Now I have an iPhone 8 Plus, (because I like it). And yeah I have a computer where I spend most time on gaming and stuff.
I’m 11 never had a pc or laptop all my friends have like r5 3600x + 2080 super I just sold my PS4 that I got when I was 10 and that’s the first thing I’ve ever had now I’m on my dads 2012 laptop running an i3 5100u@ 2.1ghz that runs windows 8 and crashes on google i sold my PS4 a year ago and im sad :(
Please! Give me a break! 6-8 year olds don't need computers! If they really do, maybe cheap, cheap less than $300 dollar laptop or chromebook. LIst of things kids do: Web browsing. Do you need to spend a $1000 on something that they can't take the full value of?
I mean, with a hard drive, sure, but he put an ssd in there, and since its a 17 inch mbp, it has a quad-core processor, so it should run relatively fine.

I told my mom to give me a very good pc for my birthday but I end up getting nothing because my mom is struggling with the Bill's

What is the point of parental controls?
When I first learnt programming, I made an profile for an iPad that would not allow restrictions to be enabled. So when my parents tried to enable the restrictions they were like why isn't this feature working??? I never told them about that 😂😂😂
Mac 💻 Is For School And Work, Windows Is For Gaming 🎮
true brainist !
Olliwer but use Windows for work it is cheaper
Olliwer Macs can easily dualboot into Windows with Apple’s software known as bootcamp.
They just need to make MacOS an open OS that they sell just like Windows. The hardware that’s in a Mac and what you pay for it is just bad. You can make a pc yourself that is better than a Mac for less. MacOS is a great OS tho.
windows has more work program support imo
I'm 10 because my bday today and I'm getting one

there is a tip.
“well i need it because of school and (insert your hobby which will give you a job)”
fun fact, i will tell that to my dad. for a macbook pro.
Buy parts for a desktop, never buy Mac if you're looking for performance.

I wouldn't give a young kid a laptop. They can drop it and damage it. Desktops are better. If they need to use it a school, they can use an iPad or a school computer.
That's correct and also if they do break or slow down you can upgrade and repair them really cheep and easily
You are a great parent

Through 3rd grade to 11th grade, I had a Chromebook for schoolwork. Once I was 7, I got an iPhone 3GS. Now I have an iPhone 8 Plus, (because I like it). And yeah I have a computer where I spend most time on gaming and stuff.

Please! Give me a break! 6-8 year olds don't need computers! If they really do, maybe cheap, cheap less than $300 dollar laptop or chromebook. LIst of things kids do: Web browsing. Do you need to spend a $1000 on something that they can't take the full value of?
i was 4 my dude and i got a computer.
0:45 RIP - 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) would best run on that computer; keeping it up to date will slow it down a lot!
I mean, with a hard drive, sure, but he put an ssd in there, and since its a 17 inch mbp, it has a quad-core processor, so it should run relatively fine.
That's so helpful.....perfect editing
