oookay. well, atleast my pentium D, machine runs chrome os much better than linux mint. I still use mint on that machine because chrome OS is just for browsing, and i want to do bunch of stuff with the machine. But for most people, Chrome os is much simpler and better choice.
Here is a tip, get a ssd. I use windows and when i switched from a hard drive to a ssd it was night and day difference. Apps that would take 1-7 minutes to open now only take only 1-2 seconds. Apps are stored in the computer storage drive so it makes sense that faster drives mean faster performance
i installed windows 10 on a 10 years old laptop. and it's smooth. it's now plugged to my home speakers and plays music when i start it from my spotify app on my phone. I also use it to download big files overnight.
Also don't do this to your laptop if it has less than 2gb of ram, I did it on a dell latitude D610 with 512 mb, and it refused to boot. It even says 2gb is the minimum on the cloud ready website. Since Chromium OS has limited app support anyways, I would just buy an ssd (if the hdd is too slow) and install Windows 7 or 8.1
For my laptops life it didn't came yet it's memory didn't faint and it's hard drive didn't slow it's still working perfect since it is only his third day in my house as I bought it on Tuesday and it came on Thursday it's still brand new

Our school gave us an Acer laptop and this kid on the first year accidentally stepped on it and it broke and it bended. The teachers still didn't realize that it was the laptops cheapness not the kid. Every time this happens (alot of times) the teachers always thing the same thing. My school was really cheap.
Not me, I've been using Linux like 4 years and I am really comfortable with it. I even installed a distro called Zorin OS that looks like Windows for new users in my father's notebook (I am 17 and he is 41 years old). His computer was working so bad on Windows (the boot was like 40seconds or more, and then when you wanted to use it you had to wait again for the UI to get usable), so I decides to do that. Now he uses it and he has no problems, now the boot time is like 10 seconds and you can use it instantly. And he didn't had to learn anything new, it's really easy to use. He downloads his movies with QBitorrent, uses the internet with Firefox or Chrome, whatches videos or movies with VLC, etc.

Armaan Aggarwal yes I would recommend if you switching from windows I would recommend Linux mint because it it feels exactly like windows and it’s a whole lot faster and you can get used to the desktop environment and learn about the packages And stuff

Ssd and ram and fresh install software can make every laptop work like charm
You could probably put an SSD and upgrade the ram in that Thinkpad and Windows would run fine.
Can you do it on a iBook clamshell... I’d love to see that thing running like new again
To do it on a iBook, you’ll need some upgrades (ram and SSD), some adapters for the SSD, and a PowerPC version of Linux.
