      Dude.
      Liquid nitrogen.
      Turn to plasma.
With the power fed in by radio.
Once you have enough speed, you switch to free air.
You stay low enough untill you have enough speed.
Aim up and switch back to nitrogen.
      And a fuel cell.
With most power coming by Radio,
You can use a more inert fuel. Thus
      Safe.
      Heck,
Produce some ions, then the rest of the length is to accelarate them. Way faster than current models.
      Heck, hull thrust.
Like that plane those kids made.
It used the air for ions.
And then accelerated them for all its length.
Have the nitrogen 'leakout' and get ionized.
Then accelarated for all the length.
As you do the og method.
      One gives immidiate push.
The other takes its time, but gets you faster.

@@williamstock3007 Blowing stuff up. Breaking things during testing is a faster, and more efficient way to progress. Doing everything through computer simulation is what led to Boeing launching their unmanned crew-capsule Starliner a few months back. Its mission clock was wrongly set up (despite bleats about all the simulations they did); they nearly lost the vehicle on re-entry because the programming for the separation of the capsule and the service-module had the rockets firing in the wrong sequence. If they hadn't spotted that flaw while checking on the clock one, the capsule and the service-module would likely have separated, then collided just before re-entry. Collisions are always bad. But somehow years of computer-simulations never found those and likely other flaws. We don't even have a date for a future unmanned re-test. That is what you get when you are not breaking stuff every day.Bezos has yet to discover this. He has a sparkling construction complex with videos of sage technicians and engineers nodding wisely for the cameras, pretending that this is how it is done properly. But when they have a sugar-daddy, no urgency and no deadlines, it is a make-work environment, little different from the Alabama situation with SLS having provided make-work for Boeing engineers. And see what has happened there. Deliberately using old-tried-tested-tech, they have still taken 10 years to now, with a first flight being postponed since 2016-17, and this boondoggle will only loft 70 tons to orbit, far less than the Saturn 5's 120. So Bezos is old-space, admittedly done on his own money. Don't hold your breath, though, waiting for results.

You mean SpaceX tactics are disrupting to the industry. And not just SpaceX, look at Tesla. That disruption was gargantuan and had most car manufacturers scrambling to get an EV on the market. Then there's solar city, not as disruptive, but progressive nonetheless, since they stepped into the market default panel efficiency has been upped from 17% to 22% because they started selling 22% panels at 17% panel prices. Not to mention their solar roof tiles which are impressive to say the least. And then there's the lithium battery market...need I go on? Elon Musk is a genius on so many levels, it's incredible. same goes for the Large Hadron Collider, but arguably even more impressive that it, is the CMS detector, which is (struggling to find words suitable for describing it)... an absolute masterpiece of engineering and cutting-edge technology, top physics and material science, just.... amazing
don't mention space related stuff, cause that got pretty much financed by war
neither the Hubble or LHC were financed by war, or religion, or mankind survival, but by the upmost desire of knowledge

SpaceX is both fast and steady. :) And they've already sent people to space, while Blue Origin didn't even reach orbit. Slow and "ferociously" steady? Ok, but the thing is Blue Origin lags way behind, while even the slow and overbudgeted NASA is closer to set people in space. So Blue Origin is cool, if you put it in the context of the 70's. Other than that, they're insanely far from having orbiting colonies or settlements on any heavenly body. They really need to step up, or they will become irrelevant. The Chinese are reasonably close to rocket reusability, the Russians have also started working on reusable rockets, the ESA also works on reusability, and all of them have a long standing experience of going into space. I have no idea what to think about Blue Origin, other than... what exactly are they doing? Everyone moves faster than them, and they get results.
