Watching you practice 20 eyes and 20 dots and "counting" with the toothpick to know on which dip the shape will be the way you want it. It is SO insightful to see that hey guys it really is tons of practice. Look at Roman practicing eyes before doing eyes! Wonderful.
Roman, I enjoy this video so much. So happy to discover that you are capturing your unique Roman L. style of instruction and communication, we know from your classes, through video and youtube mediums. The presentation and production work does your work justice. Happy painting!
Thanks so much, Alex. Really appreciate the feedback. Will be happily provide more learning content in this - as you say kindly - unique way. Learning tons on the editing work and looking forward to improve the quality with every Video! Thank you for being part of this journey!
I’m working on my fourth of seven mini faces, following this video. I feel like I am making some progress, getting the shape of the almond black and white layers, usually missing the nose. Thanks for the encouragement and simplified method.
I feel called out for always holding my breath while painting eyes/details XD very nice video! Very helpful advice. Thanks for sharing! (and the sound volume was almost perfect this time, only the end credits were a bit loud )
So simple when you think about some of the overlooked tips you've given here. Painting the one you're weakest at first just makes too much sense... and in 30+ year I've never thought of doing that 🤦♂️ Love the video format and hope to see more of these.
Yes, I think so. The reflection dot, painted by me gives the Imagination of gloss, that is why I painted it. As soon as anything else distracts from it I Lose control over surface properties of matte and gloss. There will be some tips and tricks about varnishes in a future advanced eye painting video!
I feel like my biggest issue is not being able to find a small enough brush, mine all feel like they're just small enough but if one little bit is out of place it's over and there's absolutely no room for error
I take my time. I try to be accurate and so on but what with the shaking in my hand no matter how much I calm it there's still slight there, I have to be quick and precise
Roman: True. Room for error is not much when it comes to painting eyes. A brush you call a friend is necessary. Sometimes I do really bad eye painting days too.
I have not been able to use the bamboo toothpick well. I am painting eyes on Stormiest Eternal models from GW. I find that it is hard to see where to place the dot for the pupil. The toothpick method seems to leave a raised texture. Am I doing it wrong?
Thanks, yes. It just makes sense. Learned that lesson for teaching miniature workshops the last 15 years. Always depends on the personality of the student and the character of the painter which way of explanation works best, but usually the 2d variant makes endless things very easy. More to come!
Trouble is most people paint eyes over the raised surfaces on the mini, and start painting the eye that they're creating rather than fitting it to the miniature. A big part of this is not using the paint at the right surface tension to get in there - that usually means diluting.
I think the mistake of most miniature painters is that they don’t practice or drill techniques. The boring stuff is what makes you good. Ask me how I know lol
I feel like that's amazing life advice "don't hold your breath, breath and everything will be fine." Great video Roman.
Yeah, simple as that, sometimes :)

... and hopefully downloading the sheet and training yourself! Then all my goals with this video are reached! Thanks for your feedback!
Painting eyes is nerve-wracking, often frustrating, but it never fails to bring me joy when I do it. Loving these videos Roman!
Thank you for the feedback! Well, fail a thousand times I'd say then repairing gets less nerve wrecking. Been there, done that :)
one of the best if not the best tutorial I have watched, most important because of simplicity. Well done Roman,
Thanks a lot for the great feedback! Tell your friends! There will be much more like this on this channel. Not only by me ;)

Love the tips with the sharpened bamboo... I've never considered it.
Happy to help! Glad I was able to! Enjoy!
Great tutorial!
Schöne Zusammenfassung Deiner Technik. Die Idee mit dem Blatt und den aufgemalten Gesichtern war super . Gemischt mit subtilem Humor
Vielen lieben Dank
7:25 Indeed, I like using heavy body acrylic for specular highlights.
Yes, it makes so much sense using these!
Now I'm motivated to paint more eyes. Normally I just paint a dark shadow.
Some eyes can lay in a dark shadow! Happy to hear!
Was ein hammer Video! Sowohl handwerklich das Video selbst als auch der Inhalt! Bitte mehr davon.

I must say, I chuckled when you pushed the painting downwards to signify it's in the description. Very nice tutorial as well!

Thanks a lot for the feedback. The future will see this issue improved! :)

Happy to be of help! Glad you found inspiration in it!
Throwing some bamboo toothpicks in my next amazon cart. Your videos really want me to get home and paint!
Yesss! My goal is reached then! Happy Painting!
Very nice eye painting tutorial. Thanks a lot! the booming bass at the end is a bit offputting after your sombre relaxed voice ;-)
Thanks for the feedback! Well, yeah, learning with every new video!
Great video!
Do you find that applying a satin varnish to the eyes after painting your own reflection dots will confuse a viewers eye?
Yes, I think so. The reflection dot, painted by me gives the Imagination of gloss, that is why I painted it. Great tips. I never paint eyes. That's going to change now.
Superhappy to hear! :)
Screw that noise. I just paint them white like comic book style. Done. lol

Sounds like your paint is too thick then when there is raised texture. Thin it a little bit and train on paper first before going on the model
Explaining techniques in 2d first is genius.
Thanks, yes. It just makes sense. Learned that lesson for teaching miniature workshops the last 15 years. Always depends on the personality of the student and the character of the painter which way of explanation works best, but usually the 2d variant makes endless things very easy. More to come!
Bamboo toothpicks to paint eyes... Hello, game changer.
Yeahhwrr! And yes! Rock it!

im to nervous to do it lol
Breathe
😀😀😀
😀
I have so many helmetless heads lying aroudn I am gonna one of these days just.. bubkle down and learn how tf to paint faces and eyes
Yeah, rock it!
I think the mistake of most miniature painters is that they don’t practice or drill techniques. The boring stuff is what makes you good. Ask me how I know lol
Yes, it is a big mistake. Growth comes only from training. Same with muscles.
