They would have really done Mukuro dirty in this trial. Imagine the Ultimate soldier dying to a baseball player. Like imagine learning about her later in the game and how she "never got a single injury in battle" and yet Leon was able to just stab her easily.
I'm not sure if this is true or not but I heard Kiyotaka was originally supposed to be the mastermind before they changed it to Junko. That would mean Mukuro isn't disguised as Junko and that Junko was actually a fashionista.
The most interesting thing about this beta version imo is that it means Sayaka would live past chapter 1, which certainly makes me curious what her role would have been going forward
She might’ve been a support type character. I would still believe Kirigiri would be one too, but Kirigiri would help Makoto out logically in trials, while Sayaka helps Makoto mentally with giving him encouragement to work hard and not give up. It would’ve been cool and plus I like the idea of a trio between Makoto,Kirigiri, and Sayaka.
Idk when this was decided, but Junko was supposed to be just Junko in earlier versions not Mukuro in disguise, so maybe Leon could overpower someone who was just the ultimate fashionista and nothing more
@@MyGhostEchoes it's been a while so who knows what's come out since, but i think i remember hearing that earlier in development that kirigiri was supposed to be the mastermind maybe because if mukuro was still cosplaying as junko, leon would not have been able to kill her like in the early chapter 1 case comic leaving probably the smartest person in the game as one of the only real choice for the mastermind, and you say kirigiri was supposed to be a red herring so it's entirely possible that was a repurposing of what was planned. also did you just "erm, source?" me?
Hearing that the case supposedly took place on the third floor makes me wonder if their was a version where all the participants were trapped on the third floor and had to work their way down to the enterance. Of course that does create a bit of an issue with the fact that floors only unlock when they survive another trial, but I kinda assume it works like you can either work together with the others and _maybe get out eventually_ or kill someone and hope you dont get caught to fast track your way out.
How's that an issue. It's an amazing concept that would definetly fill participants with despair when they find out that they have sacrificed so many people for nothing
@@sillycovek I forgot things like Monokuma providing potential motives existed so I got a bit hung up on why anyone would commit a murder that allowed them to progress in the first place.
@@wintersnow998 Actually, the exit itself would be motive enough. Unlike in the Final version were they all already knew the exit was blocked, they didn't know that yet in this version, so each floor being unlocked after a murder would indeed force them to kill eachother quicker.
I don't think the scenario would've played out with Leon overpowering Mukuro. She is the Ultimate Soldier, so it's likely she's fought stronger foes. I see him killing her not by surprise or brute force but some kind of unknown interference, like Junko herself purposely causing Mukuro to lower her guard just long enough for him to deal a fatal blow.
I was also thinking the same theres no way after reading danganronpa if and watching the anime that i can believe mukuro died so easily by being stabbed
@@galincvetanov5706 Especially by Leon. I mean, she's beaten Peko, the Ishikki brothers, and sliced through various Monokuma bots. The only people Mukuro seems to be physically inferior against are Sakura and Izuru. Outside of those two, I don't think there's anyone else in Danganronpa capable of beating her in a fight.
Well, considering the logistical issues that would have happened if Mukuro, as the blackened, managed to get away with murder (causing everyone else, who isn't in on it, to get killed), chances are that Mukuro and Junko already decided that Mukuro wouldn't be the blackened (well, unless someone needed to get the ball rolling with the murdering or something, which would eliminate the situation of Mukuro actively self-defending like what would have potentially happened in this case)
The only issue i have with it actually being mukuro that was killed is that there would be few people capable of killing the ultimate soldier. Maybe sakura could overpower her but unless junko somehow was directly involved in catching her by surprise i dont think it would play out the way the killler wants.
Junko probably wasn’t decided as the mastermind at that point so the victim in that case might have just been Junko (without all the intelligence and stuff)
In Danganronpa if there was a moment where junko admits Mukuro Became equal to sakura even if she went with her full strength so Sakura can't Overpower her at all
It's possible that Leon also tried breaking the vase at 12 pm to give himself an Alibi, alongside making everyone else think the murder occurred at twelve. Leon could claim he was simply relieving some stress by throwing the vase down on the ground.
"simply relieving some stress by trowing the vase on the ground" Yeah makes sense for someone to relieve stress but trowing a fucking vase in a classroom
@@Spooki.spooki 1st of all:Breaking school proprety is against the rules wich includes the vase. 2nd of all:Whilst it is true that some people relieve stress by bying violent it's very *rare*. 3rd of all:Even if somehow he wouldn't be punished for rule breaking and tried doing that nobody would belive him because of 2 reasons: 1.Nobody can testify about him having anger issues and being violent calms him down. 2.Nobody would belive that in a KILLING GAME where they have to suspect people using everything they can wich includes that. To sum things up: You're wrong.
Idk if you ever thought of this, but have you ever considered doing an alternate protagonist video? The canon games tended to go with people who were more average, so it would be interesting to see someone "not so average" take the reigns for once. I think most of the DR characters are pretty interesting and are strong enough to carry the plot on their own, so I'd love to see how having another character as the protag (say maybe Celeste or Ishimaru or even Sayaka) would change up the story and possibly the cases and the victims.
One thing I noticed they changed from the beta to the final was the lighting of the sprites in the trial. In the beta, you can see when leon gets pissed that the lighting drastically changes his face, making it a more menacing look. I actually really like that and I wish they would’ve kept that.
To be fair, 11037 was made more for Japanese players who don't read Latin script, but yeah the original first chapter definitely work way better. This was probably more of a test like you said, or maybe an early draft they updated and switched the killer to Sayaka. People are hard on the first game and first trial but for the reasons you say I really do appreciate it a lot. Some stuff is easy cuz first trial but oh well. Also AUs based on Distrust could be fun!
I am definitely happy they decided to change this trial. Like you said, it seems very poorly made. Although, at the same time it makes sense because of the fact they made it in order to just present something to the higher ups. I personally have no idea what they were trying to go for with this trial. Although, I like to believe that maybe leon pulled a kaede. What if for the first motive, Junko gave each student a piece of paper saying a random, stupid fact about Hopes Peak Academy and the killing game. For example students could receive a paper saying “the windows are boarded up with iron” or “you must kill someone to graduate.” Maybe to push it even further, the papers can say even dumber stuff which would lead the students thinking it as a joke and maybe getting pissed about it. Although little did they know, Leon got handed a paper saying “Junko is the mastermind of this killing game.” Obviously since Mukuro is dressed up as Junko, leon would think she was the mastermind. While all the other students are bashing Monokuma for giving them ridiculous facts, leon would be too stunned at what he learned. After that maybe leon thought that maybe if he killed mukuro/junko, everyone would be free. This is what Junko would want in order for the killing game to start. Leon would send a leter to Mukuro maybe wanting to talk about something which leads to those series of events happening. I hope this makes sense, I suck at explaining things ;-;
This actually seems canon!I just don’t know how Leon overpowered the Ultimate Soldier, maybe in this version Junko just wore a different hairpin? But tbh I love your theory
i much prefer actual trial 1. it would have annoyed me far too much to find out that the baseball kid successfully killed the ultimate soldier. but it's danganronpa, so it probably wouldn't have been so simple - i can imagine mukuro overpowering leon instead and junko interfering to kill her at the last minute, leaving us with a DRV3 style false first blackened and a similar last trial where they rehash the first trial. that could have been very danganronpa, with leon insisting on his innocence until the end and the others dismissing him as pretty awful for killing first and never admitting to it even until his execution, when actually he was telling the truth and they unfairly put someone they barely even got to know to death.
Wow they really hated Leon which is sad his character story was really interesting and I feel like it had a lot of potential I wished he would have been a survivor instead of Yasuhiro
My theory is that sayaka was trying to save everybody at the cost of one. She didn’t know anything about the trials rules so she thought that she would be let out and would call for help
There was a long, loong floor board that was loose, it spanned the entirety of the third floor, by dramatically throwing the vase in that way, he created enough force to propel the other side of the board upwards, stabbing Mukuro with a shard of the vase and making it look like that was the murder weapon! Clever!
As much as I love the polished and natural-proportioned characters in the final game, the beta designs and sprites in this demo look really cool! I love how stylistic and edged out all the characters look, and it really fits the tone and themes of the first Danganronpa.
I'm glad we got what we got. The trial that made it into the game is great because of how it sets up all of the blurred lines - that the victim isn't always innocent, and the culprit isn't your enemy specifically to be your antagonist, but because they have lives to fight for, and you are insignificant to them in comparison. I also like that "Junko's" death was different than everyone else's, it paints her as 100% innocent and unfortunate but makes for a more significant punch and makes just more sense narratively when she's revealed as one of the bad guys (especially since she was inly supposed to be "imprisoned" and was killed on a whim instead).
The actual first case also teaches you that the perfect safety of the rooms isn't as safe as you initially think it is. Also it sets up Naegi to become mega man. =3
I personally like to think that what Leon did the with the vase was more of Hagakure move (I'm referring to his meeting with Sakura) since I still like the idea of Mukuro asking someone to meet with them, only to kill And then once again, Leon has to make up something on the spot
4:50 maybe in the original version when it says 3-b or whatever it was. They meant that it was class B of year 3. Because I know some schools put the older years at the bottom and younger people in higher floors
If your theory is correct, I have the same question as many of my fellow commenters: how on earth could Leon have caught Mukuro off guard? I think perhaps if Leon mentioned the note to her in a confrontation prior to killing her, that could just catch her off guard enough that he could stab her, since the only person who could have sent that note is Junko, and that could shock Mukuro enough that he could take the opportunity to attack while she was distracted
I honestly find it interesting if for example Junko set up Mukuro by maybe making a deal with Leon or blackmailing him into killing her and therefore silencing her. Sayaka makes sense as a first victim, but i can't help but think how interesting it would be if she stuck around for a while
More than likely Leon planned to Frame Sayaka by making sure she had no alibi for the time he tried to have everyone believe the murder took place. He probably had an alibi but a weak one which was easily debunked by Sayaka seeing him Now why he choose specifically sayaka? No idea But a He said She Said Situation is pretty hard to decipher if you have no info.
@@legosi3527 Buddy buddy to make people think she wouldn’t do it🤔 sounds like a plausible motive We just need more Context no matter how vague it may be
@@Eli_Young I assume the reason for that would be to say that if Sayaka wasnt seen anywhere by the others, she was most likely with Junko. At least that's what I assume is the logic for alibis and all that
as much as I love the story we ended up with, this makes me REALLY interested in a timeline where Mukuro was murdered by another student, not Junko. It would be so much harder for the rest of the class to figure out the mastermind at the end, and I feel like it would be an even bigger deception on Junkos part to Mukuro
This trial seems very interesting! I would have loved to play it, although DR1's first trial is already a perfect way to start the game, in my opinion. And this is unrelated to the trial, but I'm a big fan of how you use Kaede's sprites at times while you talk. It fits really well!
I don't think the scenario where Mukuro intended to kill Leon is likely. Remember Mukuro was unkillable. Junko only managed to do it because she tricked her into staying in place and ignoring Monokuma's death threat. There's no way Leon would have overpowered her, considering all the times Junko tried to kill Mukuro out of nowhere in the anime. Besides, Leon would have no reason to hide that he was warned about the murder after the trial, and the most logical deduction would be thinking Monokuma did it. No one would dare plan a murder if they knew Monokuma was going to give them away just like that. It would have been more interesting if Monokuma's warning was a lie and Junko wasn't planning to kill Leon at all, though it would have been a weak motive.
Kind of disappointed Leon was always destined to die at chapter 1 as the culprit. It really disappoints me because I think he could have been a very good character if he just lasted longer. When I first saw the beta closing argument for some reason I always thought mondo was going to be the culprit. So yeah kinda wished Leon survived instead of Yasuhiro but I like them both so oh well.
@@isaiahmayane7792 Hagakure was the victim of the game's Demo, which just so happened to receive a standalone Manga adaptation where it was revealed that Yamada was the culprit, it even came with an entire execution where Monokuma and a character Hifumi fanboy'd over killed him with anime tropes.
I wouldn't have PREFFERED this trial, but it would be interesting to see a reference to it in a possible future spin-off if they make one. Also, I've come up with a scene for the screenshot of Leon and Sayaka standing back to back, with them both holding guns: a UDG-type game, with Sayaka as the main protagonist and Leon as her partner. They're fighting through Towa City as they try to find their Hit List targets that they heard were trapped somewhere in the town; Sayaka's (regrettably scrapped) sister, and Leon's cousin Kanon. Along the way they're subtly helped by Hiro, who's been traveling with Kanon (so basically UDH) and gives them an update on her location during the Prologue (Lost in the Towa Mists). After that though, he's cut off, with only a flash of bright pink hair in the background to indicate his attacker. Thus, they determine that someone messed with Hiro's transmission to prevent Sayaka and Leon from finding the two missing people, and they decide their main goal is finding Hiro and Kanon before anything else happens, and then they'll try to find Sayaka's sister together. Roll with it from here, but I was thinking the main antagonists would be Kazuichi for Chapter One (Sick of Your Games), Hiyoko for Chapter Two (Height Changes, Hearts Don't), Ibuki for Chapter Three (Reunion in a Blood-Stained Bar), Sonia for Chapter Four (Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges), and Gundham for Chapter Five (Who Mourns the Forgotten?). The Epilogue (Once the Road was Traveled, Twice the Road be Remembered) would have an awesome scene with Sayaka looking completely badass holding her gun next to Leon, but idk what else.
My guess is that at that point if development that they: A. Knew they wanted Leon to be the first murderer (I wouldn’t be surprised if his execution was the first they came up with) and B. Set up ‘Junko’s death early on. They probably had the final trial the most developed as it is the climax as well as to set up foreshadowing. As long as they kept Makoto and Kyoko, the rest of the victims/murders could play out however they felt was the most interesting. You need a framework before you can add details, after all. It also is interesting that they revisited the idea of a vase being a decoy in SDR2’s Mystery Syndrome Case. It almost makes you wonder if it was an inside joke at some point. Like, they knew it was stupid, but they were already parodying an old game, why not include a nod to an old version, too?
Everyone is wondering how Leon could have possibly killed Mukuro, but this is a beta where not even the character designs are final. While it is far more finalized than most DR beta content we usually see, for all we know Mukuro could possibly not have even been the Ultimate Soldier yet.
And how exactly did she think she was going to get away with the murder? Getting away with it implies that everyone has to think you were completely uninvolved which naturally means someone is would have to be.
i'm glad you covered this, i remember when i was searching through the unused danganronpa 1 content and found the unused climactic reenactment, and i was trying to piece together everything with just the few pictures, but i think it's really cool that they reused the concept of disguising the TOD using the vase in danganronpa 2, my mind was blown when i realized that
Regardless of which trial you prefer, am I the only one who would've been glad to see Sayaka live past chapter one? With the concept of her being buddy-buddy with Junko/Mukuro before she died, she could not necessarily be super close to Makoto yet. She wouldn't have stuck to him in the beginning but now that the one she was closer to died she feels alone. It could give them a chance to grow closer, maybe them not remembering they attended middle school together until later because of the crazy situation they've been put under. Now this may be an unpopular opinion, but it'd be nice to see Sayaka be the main love interest instead of Kyoko (please don't hate I just think she's overrrated).
Anyone notice how the sprites don’t change anyways- Yknow how Sayaka is being blamed for the case?I think this would’ve presented itself as a harsh trial for Makoto because he ISNT Sayaka so you can’t really confirm anything because you don’t know what’s happened BUT it’s equally harsh in the current first trial because your being suspected and no one can really trust you and they won’t really care that you were close with her.
It sounds like whatever they had in mind for this mock-up trial, namely the use of a broken vase to obscure the time of death, they ended up reusing those concepts for Natsumi's murder.
The breaking the Vase in a different classroom is very similar to the Danganronpa 2 chapter 2's motive game, I wonder if there was a reason for that or just coincidence
Distrust is kinda a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I actually like the brutality of it and the eerie atmosphere. I kinda am using it for one of my fangans actually. There's just an interesting tone for it. On the other hand, I would've *HATED* the distrust feature. It feels way too much like the creator gets to be picky for whoever dies. I liked YTTD's routes because no matter what, some characters were going to die whether you like it or not, AND it had a choice between some characters AND there was other factors to choose from instead of "do you like character A or character B hmmmmm?". That, and I find the emotional impact of being attached to characters enough to actually feel something when they die. That, and I just like linear storytelling and character deaths that matter. My point that this distrust system wouldn't be as good could be proven that about 40% of the time when people talk about it, it's to talk about how they could've prevented a certain character's death. Basically, I would find distrust pyschically brutal but not emotionally brutal And also the ultimates gimmicks would've probably been removed had Distrust existence I love the idea of ultimate talents OH NO THE ULTIMATE TALENTS NOOOOOOO TL;DR The darker atmosphere is really cool but the distrust system would've outright ruined it.
I feel like the distrust system could’ve worked if it were more like 0 escape’s system. Maybe we could have all the characters be in a timeline in which they were victims, blackeneds, and survivors at least once.
Here's how I would "fix" this trial (obviously not a perfect fix, but I wanted to see if I could clean up some of the sloppiness) Leon, in a fit of rage over the situation/whatever the motive was originally, smashes a vase in anger in classroom 3-4 (or some equivalent) at 10:00. Nobody hears this, since the room is soundproofed, but he still decides to clean it up anyways with the dustpan, probably still seething. While looking for a place to dispose of the shards, he sees Junko/Mukuro go into 1-B with a knife in her hand. He confronts her, and they get into a verbal argument, but not one serious enough for Mukuro to feel genuinely threatened. Leon is angry enough at this point to make impulsive decisions, so while her back is turned, he throws a book at her head, staggering her. Obviously this is not a fatal blow for the Ultimate Soldier, but it's enough to make her fall over in shock and drop the knife. Leon, still hopped up on adrenalin, grabs the knife and stabs her while she's down, killing her. The situation dawns on him, and he realizes he needs to cover this up before anybody sees. He dumps the shards around her body to make it seem like she was stabbed by the broken vase, then leaves her in the classroom, closing the door. He heads back to classroom 3-4 at 11:00 to grab another vase, and that's where Sayaka sees him. When confronted, he tells Sayaka he needs help cleaning up something that broke in classroom 3-4, and gives her the dustpan. She agrees, and while she's distracted, he grabs the vase and heads out, leaving her in the classroom with the dustpan under the guise of getting more cleaning supplies. then at 12:00, he shatters it somewhere it will be heard, probably in the classroom next to 1-B with the door open. Hifumi hears and then goes to alert the others. Sayaka is still in classroom 3-4, so it looks like she ran away from the scene, meanwhile Leon hides in a locker while the others investigate so that he can escape while they enter room 1-B and find the body. Again, this isn't a perfect fix, but maybe in this scenario the holes are more like actual faults in human behavior rather than poor writing.
So in Leon’s case, to make it look like the killing took place another time… It’s like danganronpa 2 twilight syndrome? (Monokuma fan game) or fuyuhiko sister murder. That kind of cool…
I'm having a very hard time believing any of the despair sisters could get Killed by Leon, I mean you have the ultimate Soldier and the ultimate despair. I'd still love to hear more danganronpa speculations though!
I think it is impossible for Leon to defeat Junko(Mukuro) in a fight, the only thing I can think of is that she was drugged so she was defenseless and planted in the room to be killed, the note was from the real Junko. When Mukuro woke up in the classroom she could barely move, then Leon came and killed her.
I like the idea that Junko convinces Mukuro to kill Leon so they can be behind the scenes of the killing game. It make me think like how if no killed, Junko would make Sakura kill in the actual game.
While the old trial victim being Mukuro is interesting, I don't think it would work. We've seen before that she can notice even the smallest change in someone's movement to protect herself from death, like when Junko suddenly attempted to stab her with an ice pick.
The way I see the vase being important was that he broke the vase where no one could hear it and carried the shards, then he killed junko earlier at 10AM, because sayaka and junko had plans to meet at 12, or he sent a letter to sayaka pretending to be junko. At 12, when Sayaka went to the meeting place and found the body, he made noise breaking a vase nearby so people would rush and catch Sayaka there with the corpse, assuming she just did the deed.
I would love to see you make a video on your Distrust story theories! Thank you for the effort you put into all of these videos and keep being awesome :))
I prefer the idea of expanding the if scenario as an AU idea in which case all of the ultimate students minus Junko Enoshima (who killed herself when no one fell into despair) joined the future foundation as new members instead of six (sixteen after Komaru was rescued) anyway they search the "despairs" before sending them to virtual jabberwock island found the Junko virus and destroyed it there by returning them to normal selves and the ex despairs joined future foundation and also they arrested the person who was planning the forbidden action killing game and stopped it before it happened and so on
So, I guess junko wasn't mukuro in this version, and mukuro was the mastermind. The fact that she died to an athlete only makes sense if that's what happened
For the 11037 thing, to be fair, the target audience was Japanese when the game was released. So it might’ve been harder for Japanese ppl who weren’t fluent in English to figure out
Actually, I think Junko was planning to get Mukuro killed. As in, Junko and Mukuro swapped places until the plan to get Leon to find out that "Mukuro planned to kill him" and Leon, out of clear paranoia, decided to defend himself. After Junko sent him the note, she switched with Mukuro again, and told her that she was scheduled to meet with Leon at the set time. Edit: She actually said it later sorry-
Imo I feel like Leon had to see A motive video in which it crushed his spirit, feeling down Junko (Mukuro) ask him to meet her in the classroom to "discuss it further" but really she wanted to kill him but it didn't go as plan and she ended up dying that's why at the end the real Junko looks shocked about Mukuro dying given that she's A solider and all that.
4:43 i highly agree with this theory It's possible the first three floors of the academy were open, keeping in mind how big the school actually is compared to what we got in trigger happy havoc (or simply they originally had different layouts) but also we have to keep in mind WHY it was scrapped My possible theory on why it was scrapped was probably because it already would begin with spoilers (if the game even had the world ending plot twist), my second theory is that they already were running low on a budget (keeping in mind they have to pay the programmers, artists, etc) as at this time they had already cancelled distrust. Or simply they scrapped it as keeping in mind this game was made in the 2010's, computers did not have the capacities they have now and probably wouldn't be able to run the game correctly (or maybe yeah, idk anything about that)
The 1st vase was to lure Junko by the noise I think Then then 2nd vase might just be to frame the person who heard it 1st and was there before everyone else (hifumi)
I reckon Leon was thinking with his one eyed snake and then came to his senses and realised that he was being tempted to his death. Then he decides to “defend” himself and the broken vase is from him panicking or something would be his defence.
If the creators stick with this unused trial, Sayaka may get it lucky and she will be the one to survive the killing game. It is really interesting to see the early concepts of this game! 😎
Maybe when he does his Jojo pose, he's actually dodging it to seem like he was going to get killed too but escaped and then blame Sayaka since she saw him?
i bet Junko isn't the mastermind yet in this version. that wouldn't make sense at all. also the third floor starting point working your way down is such an amazing idea. too bad it was scraped. the exit enough is a great motive on it's own.
I wonder if they already decided that Mukuro and Junko to be the mastermind during this stage. If so, then its really strange for either of them to lose to Leon of all characters.
Bit of a spoiler for Danganronpa 2, but I'm using vague terms anyways. Could this alternate case have been reused in Girl E's killing during the second case? After all, she did break a vase to disguise the time of the murder.
After watching the first trial over and over again, I realize now that the Leon clue was a lot harder in Japan. It would be hard to figure out since it’s in English, is the first name, and is upside down. But I do believe that it would’ve been better if that clue was left out, but I do enjoy that trial. Have a great day!
What if junko wanted leon to kill mukuro so she sent the note to him and leon seen it as a chance to leave the school so he made a plan to kill mukuro or sumn Off topic but I hope in future dangan games they don't make it so predictable and i hope they don't give out all the information in the game, like they keep the player guessing whats going on kinda like at the end of v3
I'm honestly surprised we haven't had a class trial where someone thinks they are the blackened, tries to cover it up, and it seems like everything is pointing to them, but it turns out that someone else hijacked there plan and killed their target instead like maybe the one trying to be blackened set up some sort of james bondy type kill where they didn't have to be there when the kill happened. We haven't gotten that where someone who intends to be the blacked lives on. Would be interesting. We get something kinda like that in 1 and 2 with byakua and komaeda, but not exactly.
To be fair, I think Leon was trying to frame the murder as an accident, where Junko/Mukuro was killed by a moment of clumsiness or something like that. It still wouldn't be a very smart plan but how he set up the crime scene would seem more convincing, even in alerting the others to Junko's death
Well tbh my opinion of how all those streamer and stuff get that clue so fast is literally because they forget the game is originally in Japanese!! So it makes sense that the characters would be very set that it's a group of numbers, and the reasoning that sayaka is able to know english so well is because shes an international star. Leon, is the only name originally in english the rest are just written in a way english speakers understand(romaji I think??) So it's not the Japanese characters, it's just something I think so many people miss because it's not in a different language so it's not super obvious all the time.
How Leon tried to frame her… remember the motive videos… Makoto probably succeeded in helping with aiding maizono with not wanting to kill, Leon wanted to use that
Idk why but I just decided to make a story of how Leon could murder Mukuro: Leon had been shocked by the content of his motive video and was intrigued to find out what had happened to the people in the video. Since Mukuro was a “fashionista” he might have thought that she was weak as a “fashionista” is not that good at fighting. So he lured her to the classroom 3-4 with a note. There he tried to kill her but as Mukuro is a soldier and has never been hit by a weapon before. Leon finds himself in a predicament with Mukuro as Mukuro slowly turns the tables against Leon. But right as Leon is about to die, Junko said something to Mukuro that startles her and Leon overpowers her and ends up killing Mukuro. And the stuff after can be done in your scenario (vase breaking and etc). For all of you who don’t know how Junko talked to Mukuro with Leon there in the room, Junko had placed a hidden earpiece on Mukuro’s ear. So they can communicate without Mukuro going to the masterminds lair. That’s all! Tell me about how you feel about this scenario in comments!
They would have really done Mukuro dirty in this trial. Imagine the Ultimate soldier dying to a baseball player. Like imagine learning about her later in the game and how she "never got a single injury in battle" and yet Leon was able to just stab her easily.
Could be why they ended up changing it.
I'm not sure if this is true or not but I heard Kiyotaka was originally supposed to be the mastermind before they changed it to Junko. That would mean Mukuro isn't disguised as Junko and that Junko was actually a fashionista.

Yeah chances are Mukuro didn’t exist till later in development
What if they weren't planning on mukuro being a soldier
that’s probably because it wasn’t Mukuro, it was probably just Junko
The only issue i have with it actually being mukuro that was killed is that there would be few people capable of killing the ultimate soldier. Maybe sakura could overpower her but unless junko somehow was directly involved in catching her by surprise i dont think it would play out the way the killler wants.
Junko probably wasn’t decided as the mastermind at that point so the victim in that case might have just been Junko (without all the intelligence and stuff)
In Danganronpa if there was a moment where junko admits Mukuro Became equal to sakura even if she went with her full strength so Sakura can't Overpower her at all

If Celeste is the protagonist, Kyoko would be the PERFECT foil/rival.
@Steven Joseph Shuichi is by no means average. He's an ultimate too.
@Steven Joseph I'd agree with Makoto and Komaru, but I'd say Hajime has a pretty strong personality too.

One thing I noticed they changed from the beta to the final was the lighting of the sprites in the trial. In the beta, you can see when leon gets pissed that the lighting drastically changes his face, making it a more menacing look. I actually really like that and I wish they would’ve kept that.
It kinda sounds like what happened in Twilight Syndrome Murder Case, with the broken vase and a different weapon used.
I was thinking that too
To be fair, 11037 was made more for Japanese players who don't read Latin script, but yeah the original first chapter definitely work way better.
I am definitely happy they decided to change this trial. Like you said, it seems very poorly made. Although, at the same time it makes sense because of the fact they made it in order to just present something to the higher ups.
I personally have no idea what they were trying to go for with this trial. Although, I like to believe that maybe leon pulled a kaede. What if for the first motive, Junko gave each student a piece of paper saying a random, stupid fact about Hopes Peak Academy and the killing game. For example students could receive a paper saying “the windows are boarded up with iron” or “you must kill someone to graduate.” Maybe to push it even further, the papers can say even dumber stuff which would lead the students thinking it as a joke and maybe getting pissed about it. Although little did they know, Leon got handed a paper saying “Junko is the mastermind of this killing game.” Obviously since Mukuro is dressed up as Junko, leon would think she was the mastermind. While all the other students are bashing Monokuma for giving them ridiculous facts, leon would be too stunned at what he learned. After that maybe leon thought that maybe if he killed mukuro/junko, everyone would be free. This is what Junko would want in order for the killing game to start. Leon would send a leter to Mukuro maybe wanting to talk about something which leads to those series of events happening.
I hope this makes sense, I suck at explaining things ;-;

i much prefer actual trial 1. it would have annoyed me far too much to find out that the baseball kid successfully killed the ultimate soldier. but it's danganronpa, so it probably wouldn't have been so simple - i can imagine mukuro overpowering leon instead and junko interfering to kill her at the last minute, leaving us with a DRV3 style false first blackened and a similar last trial where they rehash the first trial. that could have been very danganronpa, with leon insisting on his innocence until the end and the others dismissing him as pretty awful for killing first and never admitting to it even until his execution, when actually he was telling the truth and they unfairly put someone they barely even got to know to death.

The reason they hated Leon is because they had to use his design as a reference for the other male character’s and they got tiered of seeing him

@@danielmorales6285 Same with Sayaka, she was the base for the female models. Those two were never going to live long, no matter how interesting
Yes.
My theory is that sayaka was trying to save everybody at the cost of one. She didn’t know anything about the trials rules so she thought that she would be let out and would call for help
No, I completely understand what Leon was doing. He was obviously trying to make a seesaw effect.
I feel bad for Sayaka as she was actually okay staying in the school with Makoto until she saw her motive video where it made her snap
Huh... well at least she would have made it to chapter 2 in this version
The broken vase think really looks like Twilight Syndrome Murder Case.
The actual first case also teaches you that the perfect safety of the rooms isn't as safe as you initially think it is. Also it sets up Naegi to become mega man. =3
I personally like to think that what Leon did the with the vase was more of Hagakure move (I'm referring to his meeting with Sakura) since I still like the idea of Mukuro asking someone to meet with them, only to kill
And then once again, Leon has to make up something on the spot

Sayaka makes sense as a first victim, but i can't help but think how interesting it would be if she stuck around for a while
i always thought she could make a good rival esque character
More than likely
Leon planned to Frame Sayaka by making sure she had no alibi for the time he tried to have everyone believe the murder took place. He probably had an alibi but a weak one which was easily debunked by Sayaka seeing him
Now why he choose specifically sayaka? No idea
But a He said She Said Situation is pretty hard to decipher if you have no info.

as much as I love the story we ended up with, this makes me REALLY interested in a timeline where Mukuro was murdered by another student, not Junko.
Leon bodying Mukuro is probably the funniest thing to ever happen in this version of the story
now i'm upset these events never ended up happening

LOVED THIS
My guess is that at that point if development that they: A.
It's just so funny how in the beta version almost everyone is standing at an awkward half-turned angle
Sayaka didn't know about the class trials before she killed Leon. All she heard was 'get away with murder.' She wasn't trying to frame Makato.
I don’t think Junko tried to kill Leon. Cause if you look at the closing argument, Junko looked surprised.

Basically, I would find distrust pyschically brutal but not emotionally brutal
And also the ultimates gimmicks would've probably been removed had Distrust existence I love the idea of ultimate talents OH NO THE ULTIMATE TALENTS NOOOOOOO
TL;DR The darker atmosphere is really cool but the distrust system would've outright ruined it.
I feel like the distrust system could’ve worked if it were more like 0 escape’s system. Maybe we could have all the characters be in a timeline in which they were victims, blackeneds, and survivors at least once.
I was waiting for you to do this
I really enjoy your speculative videos so any content you do relating to speculating about Distrust would be very exciting to me!
Here's how I would "fix" this trial (obviously not a perfect fix, but I wanted to see if I could clean up some of the sloppiness)
Leon, in a fit of rage over the situation/whatever the motive was originally, smashes a vase in anger in classroom 3-4 (or some equivalent) at 10:00.

This scraped case reminds me of the twilight syndrome murder case with the broken vases
I had no idea this even existed that’s crazy
But he would not know about the monokuma file
Junko's tie is the mukuro one but in Promo art there ties were switched but in the sprites they aren't switched
I think I like Leon's plan in this beta more than the canon THH one.
For the 11037 thing, to be fair, the target audience was Japanese when the game was released. So it might’ve been harder for Japanese ppl who weren’t fluent in English to figure out
I honestly really love those beta sprites, the saturation and thick lines are really appealing
There was also another trial not used where yasuhiro died first and hifumi killed him
Actually, I think Junko was planning to get Mukuro killed.

It's possible the first three floors of the academy were open, keeping in mind how big the school actually is compared to what we got in trigger happy havoc (or simply they originally had different layouts) but also we have to keep in mind WHY it was scrapped
My possible theory on why it was scrapped was probably because it already would begin with spoilers (if the game even had the world ending plot twist), my second theory is that they already were running low on a budget (keeping in mind they have to pay the programmers, artists, etc) as at this time they had already cancelled distrust. Or simply they scrapped it as keeping in mind this game was made in the 2010's, computers did not have the capacities they have now and probably wouldn't be able to run the game correctly (or maybe yeah, idk anything about that)
I’m glad my fellow Yu-Gi-Oh! fans could of assistance to the Danganronpa community.
Three cheers for them! Yudias! Yudias! Yudias!
The 1st vase was to lure Junko by the noise I think
Then then 2nd vase might just be to frame the person who heard it 1st and was there before everyone else (hifumi)
Maizono would've experience the class trial in the beta version- WHY DID IT NOT MAKE IT IN THE ACTUAL GAME???
Maybe when he does his Jojo pose, he's actually dodging it to seem like he was going to get killed too but escaped and then blame Sayaka since she saw him?
Man Leon really fucking hated pottery in this version, literally breaking every vase he could find
i bet Junko isn't the mastermind yet in this version. that wouldn't make sense at all.
also the third floor starting point working your way down is such an amazing idea. too bad it was scraped. the exit enough is a great motive on it's own.
Mmmhmm yeah, Kiyotaka definitely rocking that black uniform
I wonder if they already decided that Mukuro and Junko to be the mastermind during this stage. If so, then its really strange for either of them to lose to Leon of all characters.
Woah never been this early. Excited to watch the video
What if junko wanted leon to kill mukuro so she sent the note to him and leon seen it as a chance to leave the school so he made a plan to kill mukuro or sumn
Off topic but I hope in future dangan games they don't make it so predictable and i hope they don't give out all the information in the game, like they keep the player guessing whats going on kinda like at the end of v3
Okay, I'm subscribing 2nd video of yours recommended and I'm in love with your work!
How Leon tried to frame her… remember the motive videos…
Makoto probably succeeded in helping with aiding maizono with not wanting to kill, Leon wanted to use that
It's nice to see Sayaka in a trial at least once. I missed my little assistant detective throughout the game. :'c
kirigiri is literally bones like her dad
Idk why but I just decided to make a story of how Leon could murder Mukuro:
Leon had been shocked by the content of his motive video and was intrigued to find out what had happened to the people in the video.
