I will never forget her story. I think it was in Esquire magazine and my mom gave it to me the summer before I started college. These stories were so common in the late 90s and early 2000s. A few girls I grew up with went to prison, lost their kids, became addicts, all following behind these boyfriends. Kemba is now a motivational speaker, and my sorority sister! She had a much happier ending than most.
She was one of the lucky ones they lobbied for her freedom with clinton
I think that story was in a former Black news magazine called EMERGE. I remember being fascinated by it too.
That's why I stopped watching those Fatal Attraction and For My Man true crime TV shows. Too many cases were the "same old story"
These stories were common in the early and mid 90s, like Kemba who was arrested in ‘94 because of the laws in place. Not just late 90s/early00s like what are you even talking about?
@@dee27206 kemba smith and santra Rucker was the biggest cases in the 90s they was two black women from Virigina that got caught up in the drug wars they got serious time they wasn’t even the drug dealers they men were
This is based off a beautiful young Lady from Richmond, VA!! So proud of the lady she has become!
What happened to her? The OTHER one from Hampton is my older sister. Waaay different trajectory.
What was her name?
@@QueMusiQ you speaking on santra Rucker
I remember when this happened. I was 7 yrs old. My parents were always talking about it. And my Dad even bought a book about her story, and the Jet/ Ebony magazines. I’m glad her story had a happy ending!!
Excited they will be sharing her story…it is an educational tool for our youth
Kemba comes to Danville, Va. to tell her story. It's good. I'll be watching.....❤❤❤❤❤
Her story needs to be shared with young ladies everywhere especially when going to college…her story will help so many
Dr.Marshall used this story to teach young girls to choose wiser ! I will never forget this story and will use it to teach my children one day !
Never forget my highschool teacher reading her story to us in class (SWD)! This will be good!
Kemba wasn't caught up in the war on drugs, she got caught up in the wrong dude
Thank you and was dumb af if you ask me. I dont have any sympathy for her.
Which is what led many of us to incarceration in the so called War on Drugs
I love that they’re doing this. I read about her story when I was young in a magazine called Emerge.
So proud of you Kemba🫶🏿❤
Wow! I often think of this young lady. I was working at NSU when she was there. She is a beautiful women doing great things. I WILL be watching.
Me too. I lived around the corner from NSU, and my grandma taught school in Norfolk.
Me too. I lived around the corner from NSU, and my grandma taught school in Norfolk.
Me toooo. I am from the Richmond area and stubbled across her story in a magazine…and then saw the efforts to get her released…I will be watching as well
Thought she went to Hampton
@@sonyabolden9652 she did but I read the article because it was so close to home. That was after it happened.
Wow! This is so emotional for me, for I share the same story 😢 minus all the prison time. But I wonder how many more like us have went through this over something we had absolutely nothing to do with 🤷♀️ idk but this is giving this tarot reader who's silent about her personal life the courage to speak up/out instead of being embarrassed or feeling like a failure. So thank you Kemba for your truths I will be watching and crying I'm sure.😭
How much prison time?
Thank you Kemba for continuing to share your testimony! 🙏🏾❤️
This story was a sign in so many different ways ❤❤❤❤ definitely taking heed ❤❤❤ brought me to tears
I remember seeing her story on an episode of “For My Man” or another show. I can’t remember it that’s the right one or not, but I think it is.
Yes it is
Kemba in Southern Africa, specifically the country I'm from Zambia means "Beautiful Singer"
How well do I remember this story!!! Kemba's mom was my typing teacher at J FK High School in Richmond. I don't think there was a dry eye at school that day. I am so glad Mrs Smith!!!!! You got your baby back home with you❤❤😂😂 JFK 1973
My alma mater did a skit during our orientations about Kemba to help us to make wise decisions while at school
My friend!!! Can’t wait to see this!
I’ve never met another woman with my name!!
Same🤭do you know the meaning of our name?
Me too:)
@@trinirasta9879what is it
My older sister is named Kemba! She's around the same age as this Kemba. I remember when this happened in the 90's
Our name means Beautiful just so you guys know☺️
My name is really rare so I’m so glad it’s finally getting exposure lol😭
Hi. I like your name. What does your name mean?
@@yegra Hi! My mom says it means, "full of faith" and it originated from West Africa
@@kembamartin-blanken9135 your name is so lovely. Thank you!
I'm from Nigeria btw
damn this looks so good
I remember reading her story in Sister 2 Sister back in the day. Best to her & her family
Extremely glad her story was told 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Can't wait to see this next month
Yes I remember this and felt so bad for her.
I remember reading this and my mom who was a high school teacher at the time telling me a lot of young girls in her school are heading in her route. Scared the 💩 out of me. Momma didn't have to worry abt me and any boys after that.
I remember this story
I remember when this went down n my city Hampton VA. The streets were crazy then, n the yayo was A1. Unique flooded our streets n was bout that action too. Sad what happened to Kemba tho. Glad she made it out n got her story heard. Salute to Kemba n all the other queens that went down n stood tall for the stuff there men did.
I will be watching
Looks really good
This story based on Peter Hall Unique brother they killed him in Seattle
Yup
Awesome
Looks good BET+
Make sure y’all get her book!!!
This looks good
I remember her face on the magazine stopped me in my tracks because she looked like she could hv been me. Her story stayed with me to this day.
I went to Hampton at this time! A lot of drug dealers lurking around the area in those days.
When the trailer tells you whole movie
This movie was Soo good. It just makes me soo mad on how f up the system is on these innocent people
Oh, Bet+ ain’t playing
She was a couple of years ahead me at Hampton University
Wow, His brother has a podcast. Mecca Audio.
Mecca audio the og that’s his brother you speaking bout Peter hall that was his baby mother and girl at the time
@@TheBulletzgottishow20 I fix it. I thought Mecca was his uncle. Peter Hall kinda look like supreme
@@RP-ip4se nah that’s his lil brother they she was linked with unique case they killed Peter in Seattle he was on the run
@@RP-ip4se he did look like supreme a little bit
Who killed him ?
I wrote a paper in high school many years ago about Kemba’s story. Can’t wait to see!
She came to my middle school
Sending Hugs
Moral to the story is, you go to school to learn and not for these ninjas!
She was young & sheltered & was not prepared for slimebags like him. He died & the FBI looked stupid & had nobody else to go after. She never sold or packaged a single drug
@@sonyabolden9652 Weren't we all young at some point? That's not my point, did she come ini Tasha K channel for views or to tell her TRUE STORY???
When does it come out?😊
I remember her from for my man
If it’s not prison, it’s poverty. Stay away from these types ❤
I think this was a "For My Man" episode.
Heyyyyy it’s Ghostface
Yassss
I love how her name is African
Phenella stewart
Looks good but next time don't spoil the plot in the trailer please

Is this age appropriate for a 14 year old?
yes but watch with her
How was “Rump shaker” & “Can We Talk” playing at a 1990 college party when those songs came out in 1992/1993 😩 BET c’mon dawg! * Boosie voice *
This happened in the late 90s, not 1990. Both songs were out when this happened.
@@nicholemoore973 Not sure if you have an issue with comprehension or just too quick to be contradictory. However, If you watch this film the very first scene when Kemba is a college freshman - literally has written across the screen “HAMPTON, VA 1990”. The two songs were playing in that same scene despite not even being released until several years later.
Never really understood why strangers opt to be unnecessarily rude on social media platforms…however, rather than participating in that energy, I’ll just leave you with it. Be blessed.
I don't like it too depressing
May l don't commit crimes
no hate but what's with the mom's wig
Her parents let her down her lawyer let her down who was her lawyer she should have had a black lawyer you get this much time for being a ride and die woman all she did was hold some money she should have had 5 years probation that's it
She was dumb.
She should have left.
Black men like you are always the weakest link. She did leave by the time she found out the police were already tracking him
She was "young", naive and in love can't really blame her.
Yes she should've left but wasn't dumb at all, she was manipulated and feared for her life by him 💯
@@thejenkinsfamily7179 , I misspoke. You’re right.
he was dumb, he should have been a decent human instead of turning out a young girl. predator
Smh so weird that this story blew up in this fashion. She knew who she was dealing with and wanted that fast life smh
I will be watching
