  • Experimental modification of an Opticum RED LSP-02G PLL LNB for external frequency referencing via the IF cable. Very nice performance with plenty of margin when driving 0dBm LO reference signal up the IF coax (good for at least 24 - 27 MHz). The reference here is programmed to give direct translation to the 70cm band. Pretty cold day and the IC-202S was having some jitters, but otherwise splendid copy with only the LNB, no dish ;-) Could almost copy an SSB signal on the transponder too. This first experiment also included shifting the 3cm band BPF down by about 300 MHz using uniform dielectric loading on the stripline filter. Filter modification is not mandatory from the noise figure aspect, but if you really need it, there is about 7dB more gain available.
