Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for teaching me how to do my dining table. Where can I purchase gator hide the round sponge and the triple steel wheel for buffing.
Hey Michele! You can find your local retailer here: retailers.dixiebellepaint.com/ or you can visit our online store here: dixiebellepaint.com/ Happy painting!
I’m getting ready to apply gator hide to a dining room table that I’m going for a restoration hardware look. I sanded to bare wood, purposely exposed the grain and added texture to deepen the grain. I then DB chalk painted a base coat, then applied a thin coat of DB clear coat, then applied custom tinted DB wax and wiped it back. Waiting for that to dry. I’m a little scared for the gator hide step. Any tips? Would it be safer to apply another coat of clear coat first? The overall color shade is medium grays. I don’t want a high gloss finish.
Hi Amy. Oh Boy I’m so glad I watched this video! I’m about to do a dining room table and was So Scared to try the Gator hide ! And I’m going to use no pain gel stain ! I Hope it turns out like your finish 🤞 Thank you So much for this video You just Explain Everything So Well ! ❤️ Watching your Chanel 👍
Love your outcome! I’m gonna master this dang it! Lol. Thanks for sharing your technique! Going back to 0000 steel wool. I was using a different thing to buff. Just wasn’t get the flawless finish.
How long do you wait to apply Gatorhide after applying No Pain Gel Stain? I had to apply more stain than normal so I'm worried that it may need more time to dry due to that reason. I waited at least 8 hours between each coat of gel stain.
Hi there! If you added additional No Pain Gel Stain. Please allow extra drive time. Wait until the stain is no longer sticky or tacker and then apply your Gator Hide! We hope this helps and happy painting!
I'm so glad I found this tutorial but wish I looked BEFORE I applied it to my front door! I rubbed hard and in circles and didn't wait 48 hours for my paint to dry. I thought the first tutorial that I watched a few days ago about painting a front door was 2 hour wait. I should have gone back and watched again before I started. So if I can figure out how to put my locks back on my door since it's 7:15 pm right now; I will try again tomorrow. I'm afraid to buff until I put another coat on though since the paint wasn't on for 48 hours. GREAT VIDEO and you are a great instructor; calm, cool, and collective! :)
Painted 2 coats DB light paint, used one coat of regular top coat, later lightly sanded with DB sanding tool. I did this because of a slightly sticky feeling surface. It’s a book case so didn’t want that. It is still a bit tacky so want to know if I can use gatorhide now to give a better finish. This whole process has been about three weeks so should be dry. Sorry this is not very chronological.
Hi there Gwynneth, did you prep you piece first by cleaning with White Lightning? We recommend to always clean your piece prior to painting. Once you have cleaned your piece, you must thoroughly wash it off with water. If you have done this already, it may be the time between the paint and the Clear Coat. Allowing for a proper dry time is essential to getting a smooth finish. Gator Hide is our most durable top coat used for high traffic areas or outdoor pieces. We hope this helps and happy painting.
Hey there! After your first coat has dried, she takes the #0000 Steel Wool and buffs it out, going in the same direction as she did with the Gator Hide. Then, she reapplies the Gator Hide, repeating depending on how many coats you want. I hope I answered your questions! Thank you for watching! ❤
Hi! How long do you have to wait after staining with gel stain before applying gator hide? How soon after you’re done with your applications of gator hide can the table be used and wiped and cleaned by the new owners? Thank u!!!
Hi Natalia, We reccomend to allow the piece to dry and apply Gator Hide after 72 hours. Once the Gator Hide is applied allow the piece the proper cure time of 21-30 days before use! We hope this helps and happy painting.
It is not recommended over Gel Stain since our gel stain is not porous. Our other products are water based in which you are able to use the Hemp Oil with (: Happy Painting!
Both Gator Hide and Clear Coat are water resistant. Clear coat will add a layer of protection and comes in 3 sheens: Flat (matte), Satin (semi-gloss) and Gloss (shiny.)
Help! I watched this video multiple times but I ended up with serious streaks. I’ve sanded and now have damaged the paint underneath. I think I have to start over. Can I reapply my Dixie belle paint over the sanded down gator hide?
Gator Hide is designed for high traffic areas such as: cabinets, counter tops, table tops and outdoor furniture. Gator Hide is water repellent and Clear Coat is water resistant. Clear Coat will also add a layer of protection and comes in 3 sheens: Flat (matte), Satin (semi-gloss) and Gloss (shiny.)
That is up to you. I usually just use it on my tops so it will handle high traffic and then I usually do Dixie Belle clear coat in satin or clear wax on the body. Thanks for watching. Aj from Ajs Vintage Designs and Fashion Toppings
Hi, I have a two part question with regard to gator hide. The first question is that I just finished doing a microwave cart and I did put three coats of gator hide on top. They were nice and thin and I waited two hours between coats but there is a bump or a piece of dust that seems to have gotten in there and I Can still see some slight streaks. Is it possible to use the quadruple zero at this point and gator hide back over it for that shine? Secondly, we have a coffee pot that’s underneath the cabinet and my husband is always worried that the steam from the coffee pot will cause the cabinet tree wood to split overtime. Is it possible to use some gator hide on the underside of our cabinet to waterproof it from the steam?
Hi there! You can go ahead and buff your gator hide to try to smooth out the streaks! You can use Gator Hide on the underside of your cabinet to waterproof it, yes! Hope this helps and happy painting!
Great tutorial 🌷👍🥰, thank you for sharing!! I have a question. I just paint a night stand on old white chalk paint and y waxed it, how can I give it a more durable and stronger top coat. Can I use gator hide since I already wax it? Thanks in advance for your advice 🙏

What do you do for streaks on a dark paint color when you want a matte finish? Should I add a little bit of paint to the gator hide?
Hey Elizabeth! You can do that but before you do, try taking a sanding pad and try sanding it lightly! Let me know!
I want to upcyle a laminate top dinning table. I want to paint the top. So I sand, prime and then paint and then seal with Gator Hide? Thank you.

Can you use the same technique with DB high gloss?

Can I use this on a painted acrylic countertop
Hey Sandy! We don't recommend using Gator Hide with other products but we recommend trying a small section and see how that does. I hope this helps!
Do you think I could do it if I used a dixie bell paint and which one would you recommend
Hey, Can you use a roller to apply it?
Yes you can!
this is gorgeous!
Thanks so much! We are so thrilled you love it!
Can I use gator hide over an oil based stain?
You can use Gator Hide over No Pain Gel Stain as long as the stain has cured fully!
Great advice.
Thanks for watching!
When you buff it doesn't it take it off and make it not as strong??

I just purchased some Dixie Belle paint and Gator Hide. Can I use the Gator Hide all the whole piece of furniture or it just for the top?
Hi there! Yes, you can apply Gator Hide to your entire piece. :) Happy painting!
Does this process also work with the Dixie Belle Clear Coat?

That is up to you. I usually just use it on my tops so it will handle high traffic and then I usually do Dixie Belle clear coat in satin or clear wax on the body. Thanks for watching. Aj from Ajs Vintage Designs and Fashion Toppings
Hi Martha! This is up to you! We reccomend using Gator Hide on areas that need better durability!
I know you keep saying just the top with gator hide, but what if the table is staying outside all year long and probably without a cover.
