Couldn't agree more. Especially this. The production sounds just like all the late 70s/early 80s bands you can hear 3,349 times a day on the corporate "classic rock" stations.
Well you're absolutely right about that but the system has always been very badly broken! Roky ain't the only great artist missing out on some deserved limelight....
I heard Bloody Hammer ONE TIME on a classic rock/heavy metal station late at night when I was a teenager growing up in Minnesota. I believe it was a radio show by a DJ who would sometimes play obscure heavy metal and punk mixed into the endless Rob zombie/NIN/Metallica. It was years before I heard that song again and when I did it blew me away. I still remembered it.
Well at least some of us got to discover him. I discovered his content and his story, in early 1980s, after some old 60's dude gave me acid and tuned me in, turned me on, and i dropped out. Lucifer is in truth Morningstar, the herald of light (the star that appears just before sunrise)
His band 13th Floor Elevators spent like three years doing LSD every single day, combine that with latent schizophrenia and add the fact that he had to spend a couple years of an at the time "indefinite" sentence at the worst psychiatric hospital/prison in Texas FOR POSSESSION OF LIKE 3 JOINTS and its amazing he wasn't even worse off. Poor Ol Roky was done wrong by his band mates, the system, genetics and society's stigmitization of mental health issues. He is a true underground rock n roll god!
One of his finest moments. The songwriting just blows my mind. So much raw energy and gritty psych flourishes. Good luck getting these songs out of your head.
"Fangs in the days moonlight, blood never touches my lips..." One of the coolest fucking choruses ever! This is absolutely one of my all time favorite songs👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 We love you Roky!!!
You really should hear the most amazing cover of this song by the artist JAKOB BATTICK. It's live, which I can't usually stand but it's perfect. It's on an album called Goat Horned Moon.
Lucifer, Lucifer, Lucifer, Lucifer Who's been waiting on you? Lucifer, Lucifer, Lucifer, Lucifer Who's been waiting on you? Demon eyes and demons do Wait until you come through To be our leader, we've been waiting on you. For you.
Yeah, those are the only lines in the song that I have trouble with as a christian. I really don't want to give the devil any Glory at all. But such a Great, hook laden, perfectly power pop song otherwise!!!
I learned of Roky’s Death and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. I was in hospital at the time, already feeling very depressed recovering from a surgery
I'm so happy I stumbled upon Roky. I'm glad he didn't conform to mainstream trends...this is different and unique gold! I love his style and themes...I wish I was a bit older and would have lived through his hey day!
I love this song. I just heard an amazing cover of it by an artist called JAKOB BATTICK. He slows it way down and plays an acoustic guitar. If you like this song i cannot recommend that you check out his cover enough.
exactly....it's why i'm here too, finally waking up to this genius. so thankful to Rollins. Did the same thing for Thin Lizzy who i had written off cuz i only knew 'The Boys are Back in Town' which was so overplayed and annoying. Come to think of it, this Roky track is very Thin Lizzy if you ask me...
This is truly of of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard. But I dont understand it fully, if you just read the words maybe you would think is about vengence/spite. However, the tone and atmosphere is telling a different story, what do you think?
It's "Of." Searching discogs.com for his releases, this song appears as "I Think of Demons" on every release it's included on, except for the two-disc collection _I Have Always Been Here Before_ from 2005, where it appears as "I Think Up Demons." So I'm gonna guess that "Up" was a typo by somebody at Shout Factory.
@BoDiddleyHeadHunter Uhhhhh HELL YEAH, that's what makes me sick about most radio shit. Thumbs up for sticking with what you truly feel when it comes to making art!
How some of Roky’s songs just haven’t been on classic rock stations for years already at this point, is fucking criminal...

Because classic rock radio sucks and wants to push a very specific image of what "classic rock" is

Amoeba, that's why I know as well. This is pure, unadulterated Rock. What a discovery. Lots of Randy vibes.
Roky thinks of demons. For us. So we don't have to, because Roky is saintly and strong and Roky loves us.
Sparrow XIll that sums it up so well. Beautiful.
you know man
Dumb
Unfortunately one occasionally encounters demons in others.
Hell yeah brother!
God Bless Roky Erickson!!!
John Peel used to plug him CONSTANTLY on his programme between '76 and '80. I was there with my ear stuck to the radio...I REMEMBER!
Lucky.
It's so cool how he thinks of demons with such a relaxing & optimistic tune.
never has a guy's writing about his schizophrenia been so catchy
"Fangs in the days moonlight, blood never touches my lips..." One of the coolest fucking choruses ever! This is absolutely one of my all time favorite songs👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We love you Roky!!!
Roky is now on the greatest cosmic journey, dreams forever
One of the best rock songs i've heard actually
One of my favorite songs of all time, it’s a shame I had to wait till my 30’s to hear it
R.I.P. Roky. I think of demons - for you.
"I think of demons, for YOU." That makes me want to cry.
@Haunter of the Dark Well, that puts a WHOLE different spin on it 😂

This ridiculously catchy song should have been a classic new wave hit. Ah well, the masses missed out.
Brilliant!
Carry on Roky , THANK YOU!
I love when bands cover songs. Ghost introduced me to Roky Erikson.
Hell yeah Ghost
For me it was Entombed. They covered Night of the Vampire.

RIP Roky, we’re gonna miss you
Forever This Man Shall Be Praised
Clinically insane. Beautiful.
My favorite of his: "their scare is true." He sure knows about that.
I learned of Roky’s Death and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. I was in hospital at the time, already feeling very depressed recovering from a surgery
Saw him this year at a small venue and it was great. He is playing here tonight in Austin. Come on down..
R.I.P. Roky Erickson, legend!
I'm so happy I stumbled upon Roky. I'm glad he didn't conform to mainstream trends...this is different and unique gold! I love his style and themes...I wish I was a bit older and would have lived through his hey day!
This album is so inspiring to me!
Love this
The phrase 'eccentric genius' is totally overused and cheesy, as a rule--but in the case of the late great Roky, it's the TRUTH!!
Comic Sans is the icing on the cake. We miss you, Roky.
RIktigt jävla bra detta.
I love this song. I just heard an amazing cover of it by an artist called JAKOB BATTICK. He slows it way down and plays an acoustic guitar. If you like this song i cannot recommend that you check out his cover enough.

What a voice. I never heard anything like it. And "I think of demons" is actually a lovesong, at least in my opinion.
Guitar is by Duane Aslaksen.

such an up-beat song for what must have really tormented him at the time.
R.I.P. Roky
I came here from a YT video about "Dumbest ways rockstars went broke". As of now Roky's not half bad!
Rocky was born with his third eye opened.he sees shit the rest of us can't.
It's probably more about LSD and stuff, but you know that already, right?
the evil one, one of rockls greatest and least known best albums
RIP 💗💗💗💗
His music makes me feel great, always does
Gives me chills
RIP brother xxx

ROKY ROCKS!
I think of demons...for you
The name of this song is actually I Think UP Demons according the book with Roky's lyrics. He didn't always sing the words so clearly.
Wow, that conjures up quite a different vibe indeed. Thanks for the info
Think I just found my theme song........bliss
Thank you Henry Rollins !!

Listening to this while upgrading my Wrath Weaver and hoping for a Mal'Ganis..
Makes perfect sense to me. Am I knuts?
Ghost needs to cover this song as well.
He was insane, man. And somehow insane people are the most creative. You have to have an unorthodox way of thinking i guess.
Roky ❤️
This is truly of of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard. But I dont understand it fully, if you just read the words maybe you would think is about vengence/spite. However, the tone and atmosphere is telling a different story, what do you think?
