I have to tell people all the time when discussing anything 80’s that the energy of that decade may never be matched, it was totally off the hook. Sad thing is we left the 70’s that had so much absolutely great music and flowed right into the 80’s where so much was just Killer!
Then enter the 90’s and through most of the decade all I wanted to do was slit my wrists and gag on a spoon, extreme sarcasm here.
The only other time in the 20’th century that had crazy energy was the Roaring Twenties and the social economics were very much alike, so to speak.
The sky was the limit. It’s a sad truth that time goes on whether we like it or not.
But I always have great nostalgia thinking back to my teenage and early twenties years, thankfully a lot was recorded and we can still enjoy it 30-40 years later. 😎

this was also be true of the 90's and 2000's. yes there was internet and more things to keep us entertained than in the 80's, but there weren't things like the smart phone to distract us until the 2010's.

An amazing piece of pop metal. Accessible and catchy yet still heavy. This used to be one of my karaoke jams. A thing which should be remembered is that Ratt were one of the early bands playing what would later be termed hair or glam metal. Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P, Motley Crue and Dokken are some other examples of "proto" hair metal (even though most of the early bands later adopted the full hair metal style, for better or worse). All that stuff was coming out in the 81 - 85 era right alongside Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy, Scorpions, Schenker, Accept, etc. Guns N Roses first record didn't come out until 1986, three years after the first Ratt album (which included Round and Round).

So true about an enormous amount of talent spread throughout the ’80’s ‘Hair Metal’ scene. Not every band had full on musically blessed musicians’, and soooo many guitarists took what EVH & Randy Rhodes were doing & just did their own thing with it. Adrian Vandenberg, Phil Collen, Vivian Campbell, Rudy Schenker, Eddie Ojeda, C.C. Deville, Richie Sambora, and SOOOO many others. I graduated HS in 1984… so I grew up on, lived through, continue to reminisce about all of that stuff all the time. This was a great era. I grew up in this time and played in rock bands. Being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself and playing 3 different musical instruments, it was an extremely fun time.

The rhythm guitar is so melodic. One of my fave bass lines as it really carries the movement/chord changes.

I miss the 80s!!! Going to high school and college in the 80s was...THE best. And living in L.A. in the second 1/2 of the 80s? Perfection. Seeing all these guys hanging out in bars/clubs was so fun.

"Lack of Communication" by RATT is the song you need to hear. It is written so well, it is relevant today.
Solid album, could be a full reaction candidate.

I saw Ratt with Lita Ford in a very small venue. It was like a High School auditorium almost. I threw a drumstick I had up on the stage and right before it hit the stage floor, lead singer Stephen Pearcy swiped it up and held it for a second and smiled as he tossed it to the side.

Ratt was just one of the bands that made the 80s so fun. Tawny Kitaen R.I.P. MEMORY ETERNAL, is on the cover of this album. She was David Coverdale's wife, in major music videos for Whitesnake and one of the most popular 80s music video girls along side Bobbie Brown and others. I'm so glad you hit this song, Ratt, Cinderella, Dokken, Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, so many amazing 80s bands you guys!! Glam Rock was huge, long hair on these musicians was a must, along with leather everything, very competitive decade. I can't believe how Alex has come around to 80s gems, yayyyyyy!!!

I've always dug on the part where they preload the backing track for the chorus in the previous Measure. I think it starts on the 3... regardless, you hear the "round and round" lyric prior to the actual lyric. they start doing it around 4:40 on.

This was so freaking catchy. It sucked me in against my will.
I had to hide this cassette from my brother because I probably would’ve been disowned for listening to it.
They are every 80s rock band cliché. Now you have to go look at what they looked like. It was ridiculous but we loved it!
Underneath all that hair make up and spandex they were really talented. Just don’t ever let my brother find out I liked them.

'80s glam rock was fantastic! When I saw RATT, WASP was the opening act! I was around 33 years old and I'm pretty sure I was the oldest guy there.😂 They even had a parents waiting room so they could hook up with their kids after the show!😁❤️✌️

I never really see anyone discussing Stephen Pearcy's voice, but he had such a distinctive sound which fit perfectly with the L.A. sleazy metal scene at the time. You knew immediately that it was RATT on the radio when you heard that sneering vocal of his, and the next 5 minutes were going to be great!

They may get lumped in with hair metal but really could play, I saw them live a couple times and they could bring it on stage. Also try You're In Love, another banger from them that really rocks out. Good choice. They are an A for me, Too. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

That's the thing about the 80s: the technology that too many modern artists hide behind didn't exist yet so everyone really could play and sing at a pretty good level. Some were obviously better than others, but it's not like today where if you have the look the record company wants they can fix everything else.

Great 80s banger. I never got tired of this song. When I first heard it, I felt like Andy said, it grew on me. But after the first time, I kept wanting to hear it. I would say some may have been pushed a little harder to give more to their songs after hearing this.

You're in Love, Lay it Down and Way cool Jr. Some of my favorite songs from Ratt. This debut album from 1984 was a jolt to the 80's rock and actually...1984 in general was the year that really kick started the 80's heavy metal genre.
