    Great video!
    Here's a simple tip from me - You can buy cheap old games from thrift stores and use the components (dice, pawns, box, game board, etc.) You reuse an old game board, by printing and gluing your own board on top of it. It's not that hard to find a cheap old copy of Monopoly, Candyland or Risk.

    I can't believe the HP ink subscription is a recommendation, and not an eco tank printer.

    • @davidhitchcock6398
      @davidhitchcock6398 Месяц назад +1

      Agreed! I have an epson eco tank and love it. Huge ink reservoir that lasts forever, good print quality, and ink refills are reasonable for the volume you get.

      100% paid HP advertisement, haha. That shit is so expensive, how can anyone recommend that.

    • @sousatta
      @sousatta Месяц назад +1

      Yeah! Hard to believe in this recommendation. But i can give one: stay away from such subscription!! I bought one HP printer with that subscription attached and i can´t use the printer even with the original toners if i don´t continue paying every month. Makes no sense. Just like this recommendation.

    They work wonders! 🔥 I hope more people take this.

    Using playing cards in the backs of the sleeves is a great call. i remember how smart I felt when I thought of that. I know my local dollar store sells decks from casino's that have been previously used. They look practically brand new and are very affordable. Most casinos sell those decks as well.

    I gotta be honest - I figured Joey's first tip for printing print-and-play games would be to never bother printing them in the first place!! 😂

  • @NickBeenackers
    @NickBeenackers Месяц назад +8

    For me it also helped to get some card sleves with differntly collord backings. This way your backs don't have to line up / be perfect looking. Escpecialy handy when there is only 1 deck. if 2 or 3 decks then differnt colord card sleeves can still do the trick

    • @davidhitchcock6398
      @davidhitchcock6398 Месяц назад +1

      If you are using playing cards to stiffen up the sleeves, you use their backs and dont worry - its cheaper. Plus you can get different color playing cards if need be for sone variation from the dollar store.

    For custom dice I like to print icons on a sheet of sticker paper. It removes the smear of markers and it's still removable well enough.

  • @Kuptain
    @Kuptain Месяц назад +3

    Cool recommendations! Some points I disagree with though:
    1. Don't buy a HP Instant Ink... the ink is so insanely expensive. Get a printer with ink tanks. I print full color images super often, need to refill once a year at MAX, sometimes less. I paid 50€ for ink that lasted for 3 years.
    2. There are small Guillotine cutters, i definitely like them more than the slide cutters.

    I have bought wooden dice to draw on the dice faces that are not regular 1-6. Those have been pretty neat. I often laminate and sleeve cards, but it was a great advice to double laminate the cards! I want to get a better system for my roll and writes, some type of book to have the laminated sheets in to flip through and choose. For now they are held in an archive folder with 10 pockets. I have bought cubes from ebay to use in the games, and sometimes I find some good tokens or trinkets to keep with my PNP stuff to use, and I also have some metal coins and metal meeples that I can use for whatever. Great segment, Joey! Lots of good advice!

    • @davidhitchcock6398
      @davidhitchcock6398 Месяц назад

      Wooden dice are great! Plus you can can even make them from scrap wood at home, just be sure to sand/tumble them to smooth the corners.

    I picked up a laminator that has a slide cutter attached and corner cutter that slots in for storage, It’s nice for space. The cutting head also has a perforation setting. I’ve never found a use case for it where I’d prefer it to just cutting it out, but it’s a nice option

    3:20 if you have a FLGS that hosts Magic The Gathering or other CCG events they usually end up with tons of discarded cards afterwards which would normally go in the garbage. If you ask nicely they'll sometimes give you them for nothing or next-to-nothing.
    6:30 polythene pockets also work for this too

    • @davidhitchcock6398
      @davidhitchcock6398 Месяц назад

      Also thrift stores always seem to have dirt cheap copies of Trivial Pursuit which is a great source of cards.

    These are fun craft tips! Thanks!
    Before the new edition of Dune came out, I ordered a custom art canvas from an online print shop and put the map on that. It's not too easy to store (in a tube), but it's neat. Also a bit pricey.
    I used to attach boards to cardstock with black bookbinding tape. Has a nice texture and is very sturdy. Also good for repairing boxes.
    If you don't have one, a self healing cutting mat is so nice and fairly cheap.

    I find instead of using card sleeves, print on full sheet stickers and put that on cardstock. When you laminate it, that makes a nice card that is almost the same as some retail games (battleline or other gmt games). It takes more effort but so far mine are lasting really well.

    Does anyone still use grease pencils? We use to put starfleet battles ships in plastic things, then wrote with grease pencils! They were harder to erase, but they didn’t rub off at all…

    Likely a stupid question, but when you say double laminate, you just mean run the sheet through twice right?
    Not laminate sheet, cut, put in second laminate sheet?

    I recommend NOT using HP Instant Ink Service unless it's only for personal use and you're very comfortable with troubleshooting your own printer issues. HP monitors your page count and can disable your ability to print. I have had customers unable to print due to internet issues or an expired payment method with HP. Not fun issues to work on when you don't have control over the HP account being used.
    I never considered the menu covers for print-and-play games. That will be one of my next purchases!
    I always use lands from Magic: The Gathering with my printed cards. I'll use opaque sleeves if they don't need to be double sided or clear sleeves if they do. Works very well!

    Instead of using playing cards for stability, I like using cardstock weight scrapbook paper. Since I like the clear sleeves, I pick out paper that matches the game.

    Pro tip...ignore tip number one ,and get a printer where you can chug entire bottles of ink. ... 2.alternative to Joeys solution... Get the cheapest ...sleeves..deck of cards .cheapest photo paper. (Put the factory (canasta) card into sleeve And front it with your photo front side

    At 6:36 what is the game on the far left, with the blue map. Can anyone tell me please? I saw it in a video a few days ago and it looked interesting but I can't remember the name or what channel I saw it on!
    I have a tip to add! My workaround for the issue of not being able to perfectly line up the front and back of a card for printing double sided at home is to print the front and back separately. I then cut them all out and I put them in clear sleeves. This gives me uniform card backs in both size and design. Also by doubling up the cardstock in the sleeve it makes a sturdier card which is more satisfying to play with.

    I gave up on PnP games since I spent more time making them than playing them. Its near impossible for a PnP to compete with the actual produced games available.
