1021emmy X Flight went in place of Great American Raceway. Three years later Goliath was announced for the plot of land where Z-Force an Iron Wolf were at.
iron wolf can be ridden. The exact same ride is at Six Flags america. The did not rebuild it they took the same thing and just renamed it and painted it
This ride was awesome. So many memories that will be remembered on this ride. It's saddening to see they revamped it, but I remember my mother rode it with my family once, and she felt like her neck broke. I don't think this ride was ever safe, really, and it's good as well as bad that they took it down. It's enjoyable, and suspenseful. My first time riding this I was eleven years old, and I almost cried! On the loop I remember my legs feeling like they were about to slide off. Happy they took it down so nothing seriously dangerous could've happened, but saddening to see it leave. RIP IRON WOLF!
I feel like iron wolf and everything about this coaster when it was here was great considering iron wolf is pretty much the only good thing about six flags America and even then it’s hard to say this is good now that’s it’s been changed
i liked the iron wolf it was a great ride that kind of hurted your head but it was fun some people might not have liked it but as other people i am proud to say i will miss you iron wolf and i hope we will get you back someday
And this is where a legend was born.. without this we wouldn’t be able to endure nemesis, the “world’s most intense ride experience”, fall into oblivion, soar through the air on galactica, or even hitch a ride on an alien robot thing and join the swarm
Sad to see ya go Iron Wolf, but your days here were numbered. Hopefully Six Flags treats ya right and fixes ye up. Enjoy your new life with your new coasters and friends in D.C. as Apocalypse!
I must say, when I went on this ride at Six Flags America, it wasn't that bad with the head rattling and all. It is a bit rough, but nothing not to be expected with those types of restraints. Especially not as rough as Alpengiest. That ride is great, but it really throws your head around.
It was removed from its location in 2011, and was brought to Magic Mountain, renamed Apocalypse. It was painted black and orange and given a fitting color scheme. About six-eight months later, X-Flight was finished and has been put in where Great America Raceway once stood. The area where IW once stood is still empty, including the loading platforms.
Hey guys!! The video is now up for Apocalypse...the coaster that used to be Iron Wolf!!!! It is a POV of the front/far left and it looks SO MUCH SMOOTHER than Iron Wolf!! I am jealous!! This is the way Iron Wolf was meant to be! I wish they could have just re-tracked it and kept it at Six Flags Great America...but we did get X-Flight and I'm more grateful for that.
I remember my last ride on iron wolf very well, got stuck on the lift hill for about 20 minutes because one of the restraints weren't bucked properly. Then my beanie hat I was wearing fell over my face after the first drop so I couldn't see for the rest of the ride. Never got to ride it again after but now Goliath is a great ride so I can't complain.
i luv this ride it ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it hurts ur head a lot but i figured out tht if u push ur head into the right side of the harness really hard through the whole ride it dosnt hurt.IF U HAVNT TRIED THIS ROLLER COASTER TRY IT CUZ IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! ULL LUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually told two guys I know that the ride was more intense if you stood on your tiptoes when they lock the seats into place... so they both rode the whole coaster digging in their junk..... too funny... got my butt kicked when they got off though. Totally worth it.
Glad I got a chance to experience this one but it is a level 10 head jerker, you have to keep your head all the way back the whole ride or your day will be ruined 😂
This was my favorite ride. Someone vomited on the ride before me. I got off and asked to go again while everyone else was so dizzy they were almost falling over. =P
iron wolf was a fan favorite in my book i had a ton fun on this ride at had a huge loop which was awesome the only thing i didn't like about the ride is that if you were on the sides your head would get banged up pretty good
@AsItNeverSeems That's good. I'm glad Six Flags has tried to make the ride more comfortable to their guests, lol. It probably lowered maintenance costs for the ride.
heres a helpful hint when riding it... 1. stand on your toes while the seat can still move up and down 2. when they lock the seat in place, go flat on your feet this will let you relax your legs and it will help with the head punding during the ride NOTE: do not lock your knees during the ride!!!
@zookeychan I see your logic, and it's been about a year since I last rode The Iron Wolf, but when they locked the seat part, the shoulder part got locked too... I saw a guy try to do the thing you describe and he ended up having to SIT through the whole ride on it... which probably hurt 10 times as much. It's probably better to have that little bit of pain though, because if you go weak at the knees on that roller coaster and the thingy isnt in its proper place, you could slip out and fall off.
this ride is supposedly being removed at the end of summer. FINALLY. people scream on this ride and it is not because they are scared... its because they are in pain.
Sometimes the age of a ride has nothing to do with its termination. It could be for various reasons such as declining popularity or betting that a different ride would bring in more people. A rollercoaster you should of rode was SHOCK WAVE. It was an ARROW Mega Looper with 7 inversions that had a height of 170ft, a banked drop of 155ft, 3 towering loops, first loop 130ft, second and third loops 116ft, a boomerang and two corkscrews at a speed of 65 MPH. The ride gave some variety to the B&M park
does this ride really hurt as bad as everyone says? i've never ridden this ride yet, or a standup coaster. Is it worth to ride even though you get a headache?
i still have a ride like this at the amusment park near my house but we only have one loop instead of 2 like this one still its alot fun the one near my house i never went on this one but it looks fun.
@aseretkavon On any B&M stand up, when you first get in crouch down a little bit (so your knees are almost to 45 degrees but not quite) then, once the opperator locks the seats in place, stand up fully--your shoulders should be cupped into the restraint and your sensitive regions nowhere near the stupid saddle thing hehe ;-) Only way to ride a B&M standup--that and in the front (most coasters I say the back, but standups are more enjoyable in the front)
Iron wolf is not just the oldest B&M stand up, it is also the first B&M coaster ever to be created, only 2 years after B&M was founded. :)
No Batman the ride at great America was get your facts right
Anthony 19 Batman opened in ‘92, iron wolf opened in ‘90.
Anthony 19 Batman came after, you get your facts right.
@@johngriswold4303 I know
@Bacon Wijf *first ever looping inverted coaster
Iron Wolf Was An Awesome Ride
I was on vertical velocity and as we were getting off the operator said, “be sure to check out Iron Wolf”.
despite it being somewhere else
Seriously ?! What are you into something weird ! ? Rides been gone for ten years.
Many testicles were crushed on this ride. RIP
ew
Mine was
2 kids later after this Ride when it was still open in Gurnee Illinois The doc said i had a little juice left whatever that meant.lmao
never got a chance to ride it :(
same :( i heard it sucks because its bumpy but oh well
me nethier
its now apocalypse at six flags america
Me too :(
Mike Wasylkewicz I thought it turned into the raging bull
Iron wolf: Good, but comes with a migrane
Goliath: Awesome! New RMC woodie!
Iron Wolf: Historic Good B&M
Goliath: 5 Second Ride and another woodie to add to the collection, what is it? 5 now?
I wish i could of gotten on this before Goliath came out.
no u don't its terrible
why
It was my favorite ride
awh :(
luckily you still can, you just have to manage to take a trip down to Maryland where they relocated it and named it "the Apocalypse"
Glad to see this ride lives on as Firebird at Six Flags America.
i remembered put us back and bring my ears on this
long time ago, 14yrs
I think the "OW"s and "Oh"s pretty much summed up my feelings for this ride.
Iron Wolf is NO LONGER RIDABLE. A pure wood, looping coaster called Goliath will replace it.
It's now relocated at Six Flags America as Apocalypse with a much better theming and colour scheme.
And they built X- Flight which is so much better
X-flight > Iron wolf X-flight < Goliath
1021emmy X Flight went in place of Great American Raceway. Three years later Goliath was announced for the plot of land where Z-Force an Iron Wolf were at.
iron wolf can be ridden. The exact same ride is at Six Flags america. The did not rebuild it they took the same thing and just renamed it and painted it

I think that this coaster is better now that it got renamed, rethemed, and repainted as Apocalypse at Six Flags America.
I feel like iron wolf and everything about this coaster when it was here was great considering iron wolf is pretty much the only good thing about six flags America and even then it’s hard to say this is good now that’s it’s been changed

The Iron Wolf was so cool! My favorite to ride.
so glad they took it out... this ride hurt like hell
Sad to see ya go Iron Wolf, but your days here were numbered. Hopefully Six Flags treats ya right and fixes ye up. Enjoy your new life with your new coasters and friends in D.C. as Apocalypse!
ughhh im gunna miss this ride nxt yr its not even rough to me nvr ever gave me a headache ;(

Years late but i remember shock wave and compared to that iron wolf did nothing
I love B&M standup's
It was removed from its location in 2011, and was brought to Magic Mountain, renamed Apocalypse. It was painted black and orange and given a fitting color scheme. About six-eight months later, X-Flight was finished and has been put in where Great America Raceway once stood. The area where IW once stood is still empty, including the loading platforms.
No it wasn’t. It was to New England or some other tiny park. It was not at Magic Mountain. Get facts straight.
RIP Iron Wolf/Apocalypse
1990-2018
Been a great 28 seasons
It still exists as a floorless coaster at Six Flags America. If you want to ride it, check it out!
actually you guys are right it's the first B&M stand up ever, but it's also the first EVER b&m steel rollercoaster
I FRICKEN' LOVE THIS RIDE!!
I miss this ride so much!!!

One of the very few rough B&M's. Still looks like fun. :)
vortex at carowinds is the worst
i luv this ride it ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it hurts ur head a lot but i figured out tht if u push ur head into the right side of the harness really hard through the whole ride it dosnt hurt.IF U HAVNT TRIED THIS ROLLER COASTER TRY IT CUZ IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! It was always a bit hilarious watching everyone walk off this ride holding their head and/or crotch.
LMAO
I actually told two guys I know that the ride was more intense if you stood on your tiptoes when they lock the seats into place... so they both rode the whole coaster digging in their junk..... too funny... got my butt kicked when they got off though. Totally worth it.
This ride has probably crushed my nutsack 3/4 times I rode it! LMAO
I really miss this ride
This was my favorite ride. It was so fucking fast!
@orionintelligence Actually,This was built in 1990 and Kumba was build in 1993.(actually it was built in late 1992 and opened in spring of '93)
Miss this ride. Bashed my head about but it was the last coaster I road with my Dad. My Dad is gone now.
Rode on this one several times when I lived just north of their in Milwaukee. Sad to know that it is no longer their. :(
this closes tommorow :( i wil miss u iron wolf! u were my fav ride :(
Miss this ride
we love u Iron wolf!
iron wolf was a fan favorite in my book i had a ton fun on this ride at had a huge loop which was awesome the only thing i didn't like about the ride is that if you were on the sides your head would get banged up pretty good
@AsItNeverSeems That's good. I'm glad Six Flags has tried to make the ride more comfortable to their guests, lol. It probably lowered maintenance costs for the ride.
Oh I did not know that. Thanks for the information!
This ride is like getting punched in the head by Mr. Olympia, who is wielding cement blocks instead of fists, for a minute straight.
heres a helpful hint when riding it...
1. stand on your toes while the seat can still move up and down
2. when they lock the seat in place, go flat on your feet this will let you relax your legs and it will help with the head punding during the ride
NOTE: do not lock your knees during the ride!!!
Yes, it's the same ride. This was taken out of Great America and relocated to DC.
Iron Wolf was opened in 1990. It was actually the very first B&M rollercoaster in the world.
This was the first B&M , period.
@TheJedigir the lateral g forces cause your head to hit the sides of the shoulder harness really hard.
Six flags america is getting this
I never saw this in person because it was removed before i wad born but. I never would imagine a coaster like that there
gotta love the breaks at 0:13
I miss this
@AceAviations2 really? you think the wingrider is ugly? it looks pretty awesome to me! its a shame to see the wolf go though
this ride shook me around too much... O_o
this ride is supposedly being removed at the end of summer. FINALLY. people scream on this ride and it is not because they are scared... its because they are in pain.
It was one of the first B&M stand up rides - of course it's short! Still fun, though!
I got a question. Will this ride receive new trains with it's debut at Six Flags America?
Sad they got rid of this. Was one of my favorites at this park
Sometimes the age of a ride has nothing to do with its termination. It could be for various reasons such as declining popularity or betting that a different ride would bring in more people. I never got a chance to ride this, did I miss out of anything?
not much. Goliath is better
Ya you missed out on a shit ton of bruises on your body and headaches
Yeah you missed out on a free concussion!
For em, Best RIDE there!
B&M's first coaster!
ive been here and this coater gives u mad whiplash but its fun
"Ow" sums up half of the experience of this ride.
i still cant decide if i should go on this ride over the summer
that little lap bar racked my junk so much
does this ride really hurt as bad as everyone says? i've never ridden this ride yet, or a standup coaster. Is it worth to ride even though you get a headache?
I cant believe its nearly been 4 years after this ride was removed.
Rip to all the testicles lost on this ride
this hurt my shoulders and head so bad. reference for future ride ons! :)
I saw cent signs in your description. How did you get that?
@Natboo99 it makes me so sad!!!! allgedly its being moved to Washington? i dont beleive that but this was my fav
You won't find this ride there anymore though sadly, they removed it and have yet to replace it with another ride.
R.I.P. Iron Wolf :(
Xflight didn't replace Iron Wolf. It's in a totally different area than Iron Wolf.
I'm so going on this one again!
there must be a lot of new rides now since the last time i went there
i still have a ride like this at the amusment park near my house but we only have one loop instead of 2 like this one still its alot fun the one near my house i never went on this one but it looks fun.
Actualy, it was opened in 1990 and its the first B&M in the world ;).
R.I.P. Iron wolf 1990?-2011.
Wasn't Medusa at Great Adventure the first B&M stand up coaster?
@aseretkavon On any B&M stand up, when you first get in crouch down a little bit (so your knees are almost to 45 degrees but not quite) then, once the opperator locks the seats in place, stand up fully--your shoulders should be cupped into the restraint and your sensitive regions nowhere near the stupid saddle thing hehe ;-) Only way to ride a B&M standup--that and in the front (most coasters I say the back, but standups are more enjoyable in the front)
I liked this ride do to the lack of lines it had at any time of the day.
nice name
I was too young and small to ride the iron wolf and it looks so fun :(
To be fair, it looks so much better as Apocalypse, just wish my first ride on it wasn’t so uncomfortable.
I'm going next week and I'm riding everything!!!!
I miss iron wolf
RIP Iron Wolf. 1990-2011
im gonna ride this when its put i sfa !! so excited!!
At least they now have something cool replacing it
man that looks fun
Iron wolf going hurt your balls!
I miss it.
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom do you film this while your on the ride? if you do, how do you do that?
Is it any better now as Firebird at Six Flags America?
