Do better.
One of the greatest responses to a stupid interview question.
Chess unironically have the stupidest interviewers I have ever seen
Magnus is hardcore. Not afraid to put anyone in their place
Legendary
Well the guy is smart you know
It wasn't a stupid question, but magnus was right.
His facial expressions haven't changed 😂
Very funny, dude. By the way, why should it change??

Yeah - thats how normal people comunicate 😃😊
@@goshu7009 I don't know where you live, but most people I've met in life can't wait to talk over you.. quite a few people are terrible listeners and interrupt constantly.
''DO BETTER'', ruthless and deserved
Oh the "media" deserves much worse.
Absolutely undeserved.
You obviously don't know what happened.
Magnus touched a piece (without saying "I adjust/j'adoube"), then let it go, and played with other piece. That's illegal in chess.
He undoubtedly made a mistake. David Howell (a good friend of Magnus) was commenting the live stream, and he acknowledged that what Magnus did was against the rule, and that he could be severely punished (forced to play that knight move, which would be very bad for Magnus)
@@inemanja can we find some fucking decency for these players please? go back and watch the game he was very clearly adjusting the piece. I guarantee Nepo would not have cared in the slightest, and at a certain point we really do need to do better. these are the GOATS we're talking about, playing amazing chess. this reporter might have been doing his job but the question was shit, and it WAS deserved
@@spookee9071 1. It is not clear (there are at least 2 possible, non-blunder moves with that knight)
2. Even if adjusting was his intention, the is a way to do that without breaking rules. Similar to when you want to castle and pick a rook first instead of king (nobody cares that you obviously wanted to castle - you have to just move the rook inside)
@@inemanja "nobody cares" so that's how we're doing it huh? so we just cant play this game fullest, simply because "nobody cares"?
you seem reasonable enough. just think about what you're saying, please
Magnus is very good listener
Yeah, he didn’t blink
Of course you need to listen to interviewers question, if you want to roast him.
Agreed it's much better to let the person ask the full question, even if it's wrong.
sign of a street smart individual
That‘s the half of his chess skill, knowledge and the ability to observe and get into peoples heads. I think this is what makes him the best, the ability to focus on this extremely high level.
There is a USCF rule that if you touch a piece but you were obviously adjusting it with no intent to move it, you don't have to move it.
You have to say "adjust" or sometimes your opponent could really force you to move it if you don't call arbiter. I didn't know that I could've called arbiter when I was younger and I was forced to move my rook instead of castling since I didn't touch king first. And I didn't play in real life tournaments much so messed up the order, when I was starting out. Not sure if it's kinder nowadays but sometimes the opponent could really force you to move the piece if you touch it without saying "adjust". And one thing I wanna mention in addition is to never adjust pieces during your opponents turn. I got in trouble for that and got a warning by arbiter before lol
i think there was an incident where magnus' opponent was in the toilet possibly taking a huge dump and magnus adjusted without saying "adjust" because no one was physically there to hear him say it, and from thence the controversy arose.
I remember a short where Magnus adjusted every single one of his pieces before making the first move. It looked to me like he was doing a little bit of trolling but I can't be sure.
@@paul_warnerThats a habit most chess players have
@@stianaandal1488 I always adjust my opponent's pieces so that they're facing away from me and my pieces gain the element of surprise.

This guy has remembered the whole chess encyclopaedia. Never ever try to challenge his memory power 😅
I wouldn’t challenge any top chess when it comes to memory power. these guys are often extremely intelligent. And Magnus is one of the more social developed ones. That’s a scary combination.
Magnus seems so intelligent, right from childhood, I mean, not just in chess.
Brilliant.
Magnus had command of English even as a child. Impressive and his answers are simply delightful!

Young Magnus, the angel faced assassin.

There should be qualification for journalists as well, so such stupid people who don't put in any effort don't get to ask such stupid questions in the first place.
I recognize Danny from the second interview, so it clearly happens to the best of them. The last one was a bit egregious though
The last one was J category
I mean they just ask any questions at all, chess is not really an exciting game
@@kenn2wierd963 Indeed, chess is not a "spectator sport". Most people cannot really understand the game unless there's a commentator explaining what's going on. Unlike other sports where good commentators can explain the finer nuances of the game, but one can also watch it without commentary.
It makes me wonder why they even bother having a press conference with chess players after the game, when their answers cannot be understood by ordinary spectators (unless again, there's a professional chess player explaining afterwards). But if they do bother with a press conference, they shouldn't do a sloppy job.
@@curiouscat9 yea the first time I went to watch chess on a livestream their were people on stream for commentating and I was so confused because how can you commentate chess the moves were already on the board
He was just fed up in that last clip

Eww!
I remember some questions during the 2021 WC conferences that were so irrelevant that Magnus and Nepo would look almost disgusted by them
I thought it was hilarious to watch, might be annoying for the players tho
Magnus has always been Magnus, and we are blessed to have him in our time! Genius! Champion! Courageous! Warrior!
Its good that interviewers accept their mistakes, i like that
They can’t not do that when it’s Magnus lol
I was a waiter in the CWE in st.louis, I waited on magnus a few times at culpeppers. He would always order a fire finger salad no fire. Always very polite and tipped well.
How cute he was!!!
Still he is
Dealing with journalists sucks, sure. But imagine being as smart as these guys and having to sit through hours of stupid questions like this. It must be doubly difficult for them to tolerate.
You have to admit that Magnus is good listener and when he starts speaking he just roast everyone 😂
MAGNUS "THE GOAT"🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
The last response made me respect him the most. Clearly some interviewer trying to start drama and make a name for themselves and he basically shamed them in 2 words "Do better".
Bro being savage from childhood 😂
His facial expressions haven’t changed over the many years.
Magnus owns the name Chess in this Era. I am certain he could even influence others to change certaij rules if he really wanted to... And they're asking him questions like that... 😅 lol
He has very good memory, remember he can play w 10 persons at the same time with his eyes cover an d remember the position of each one of them. He even recall games that he played.
Good chess players can recall their moves after games. Anomalies stand out
Magnus is the GOAT and we must accept him for the man he is..sometimes testy but always that brilliant mind. The best of luck to him in the future.
No such thing as the greatest if all ti.e. maybe current best is accurate
Anyone who follows chess knows this about interviewers, stupid questions are like incredibly common, the questions asked here aren't that bad besides the last one, but yeah it's baffling the things they ask them. Magnus ain't the only one who always looks just done when answering questions lol.
Magnus: "Don't be sorry, do better"
Talking to the media as a pro athlete has got to be the worst contract obligation. That's why I loved Marshawn Lynch's post game pressers. He would give one word answers that had nothing to do with the question.
Interviewer: " so Marshawn, tell us what your plan was coming into today's game now that your On-line is healthy again"
Beast Mode: ......."Cleats"
I agree with Magnus’s logic behind him not being impressed with young kids that can become masters at Chess. There is only so far the human mind can go with the game. You can be a 2200-2500 at the age of 12 and barely get 100 rating points 20 years later
Magnus pulled a falcon and winter soldier there with that “do better”
It's a great time to be alive and to see some of his matches, they are just beyond words. And at the end game no less with seconds on the clock and he moves super human speed to win the game. How he is able to calculate that quickly is a mystery to me. Must be magic or god.
The last guy sounded like he was calling in for his prison chess club, and Bubba was standing right next to him.
"He looks like a Pokemon"
Chess press conferences are so annoying
He really let's them blunder the queen, more so he doesn't even take it immediately because he knows they'll blunder it again😅😅😅

A lesser man would just have berated the interviewer on the last question. He gave a full and clear reply. I wish more people did that. By all means complain if the question is unfair or stupid, but still give the answer. This lets everyone know why the question was stupid without having to trust either party.
Danny didn't say "reigning" rapid world champion so I wouldn't say magnus's correction was absolutely on point.
That doesn't matter. If you say "world champion", not "former world champion", it means the current one.
@@PhilomathBret I disagree. Danny said "a Rapid world champion". If you are talking about the current champion, you'd say "the Rapid world champion". Using "a" instead of "the" is a clear indication to "former champion" for me.
For example, take carlsen's wiki page - "He is a five-time World Chess Champion". You don't need to add "former" everywhere.
