Zanzibar: Land of Giants - Wildest Islands - Go Wild

  • Lying 40km off the east coast of Tanzania in Africa, the Zanzibar Archipelago has been labeled as the most exotic island chain in the world. Pristine sands and azure blue sea make it a much loved holiday destination, but bizarre creatures, many of enormous size also roam the islands. The world’s largest crab scales trees in search of coconuts, and clouds of giant bats fill the skies at dusk.
    For centuries, the lure of ivory, spices and gold has attracted empire builders from across the globe, and for over 2000 years people have led simple lives governed by the tides. While women collect octopus on the shores, men risk their lives fishing with whale sharks, the largest fish in the world.
    Zanzibar is not only an untamed wilderness - it is also a land of giants.

    Go back some 60 years, and as a very, very young lad, I used to ride on the back of those giant tortoise. _And maybe, just maybe, some of the ones filmed were ones I used to ride on._
    As regards the Zanzibar Leopard. The last, unconfirmed sighting _(From a trail camera.)_ was in 2018. Though it was considered to be extirpated _(Extinct.)_ in 2015 due to over hunting and loss of habitat.
    Nice to finally see that those giant Fruit Bats are flourishing once more. Back in my day, they were a rare sight to be seen. If at all.
    And I didn't even know that the Coconut Crab was even on Zanzibar. *So you learn something new everyday* 8-))...
    A great video. So thank you 8-))...

      I get what you're saying about racist overtones but to say that humans are not primates shows that you don't know what the word primate actually means. The order Primata implicitly includes humans. This isn't an opinion - it is irrefutable - and "primate" should not be used when "non-human primate" is meant.

    • @andrewtilsley
      @andrewtilsley Год назад +2

      @@Superior_Mindz88 well, I'm sure we can both agree that using terms which have a specific meaning incorrectly perpetuates miscommunication. This isn't an arbitrary, non-consensual matter or a vague biological theory - humans and all other great apes, yep - we're apes, are deeply embedded within the order Primata. Calling any human a primate is factually accurate - although, I again understand that incorrect use of this term can be applied in a way that perpetuates systemic racism. I respect that you are a free thinker, but I would counsel caution on calling out racism over a word being used correctly - that you are refusing to use correctly yourself!
