    In this video I answer a question I receive quite often which pertains to how I use my Line 6 Helix when playing in live performance situations. A while back I did a video showcasing the preset that I utilize when playing live, but in this video I wanted to show my layout settings and workflow for accessing different tones when on stage. I really hope you enjoy the video and the preset.

    Hi Jason on my helix LT(less switches available) I use preset/ stomp as the setting then clean, push, overdrive, lead are on the bottom 4 FS, leaving the top 4 FS to select the bypass for assign individual effects to toggle off and on within that particular snapshot in use. You have to ensure auto return is set snapshot mode. (Scribble strips and extra FS wasn't worth extra £400)Love the helix LT and yourvideos,
    Bob

    We need more of this kind of thing rather than just another snazzy preset video. I liked the focus on how the unit is actually used during performance. The operational possibilities are overwhelming, so it helps to see one particular solution.

    I use a single preset with 2 amp models, and I use the command center so I can arrange snapshots/effects wherever I want them. I have 3 snapshots that act as amp channels. I also use a switch for solo boosts, and since I'm using command center, I can have separate solo boosts for each "channel" and yet only need to use a single switch for that. Works great for my cover band.

    Awesome video! Thinking about getting a Helix for when I play live. Quick question:
    Is it conceivable that if I'm playing a 15 song set, that I could basically have a setting for each song that I could switch to with a tap?
    Board looks awesome and thanks for the video!

    Good Man Jason, I'm very interested to see how guys implement the helix live. Great work. I also would like to get your thoughts on supplying presets at home practice Dbs & live with drummer Dbs. You know allowing for the Fletcher Munson curve. Say optimised home presets for around 50/60db & live ones at 90/100db. What you think?

  • @garrysimmons111
    @garrysimmons111 Год назад

    Personally, I use a mix of snapshots and stompboxes. My presets have four snapshots: Clean, Less, Gain, More on the top row of switches. I also have three stomp boxes plus a volume boost (for leads) that I can turn on/off as desired on the bottom row of switches. No switching modes. FWIW my Helix LT presets have the clean channel being one path, and my dirty channel being the other path (different amp). It's just a matter of choosing which rig/preset I want to play with the night's given guitar.

    Question why dime the main volume? With my patches I almost always set the mv half way or lower depending. I do go direct but monitor from the unbalanced out via headrush. This would suggest my patches are too hot for the board

      You mean the "big" master knob? If so seems a bit low. Always a good idea to drive the signal to noise ratio a bit more on the Helix.

    Seriously revamping my entire workflow on the Helix to the way Jason does it... do all the presets on the Ultimate Preset Bundle Vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ALL use the exact same workflow - can you put all the presets from this pack on and have the volume balanced for gigging right out of the box ?

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  5 месяцев назад

      Hi, they sure are. I do my best to get them all well balanced so when switching between them they will all pretty much work right out of the box. Hope that helps :-)

    • @Groove.Saturation

      thanks Jason... one more... I am doing a lot of watching/reading... learning about the different connection methods and how FRFR and powered guitar amps can either be used or even used together to get the best of both world by sending FRFR to the mixer and perhaps even 4 cable method to powered amp and various permutations of all these... my head is swirling a bit on all this... I am looking for a simple and reliable way to get gigs right... I have issues like lead guitar volume too low which is pretty horrible at a gig... how do you run your gigs and do these bundles prefer a certain way to operate physically in the setup or is this strictly some setting s in the helix to get it right... ?? A lot of questions, I know, but I am frustrated - our band is getting bigger in our area, and we are getting some good venues and I have to up my game on this - I have too many times my sound sucks - I am not using the helix correctly in maybe a number of ways... I am going to scrap everything and start with your workflow and get a better setup and approach. THANK YOU!

      My pleasure! I actually run my Ultimate presets live straight to a Line 6 PowerCab 112 or 212 and have also used other FRFR speakers for my onstage monitor. I also go straight to FOH and have great success that way with minimal tweaking. You can always set up a little lead volume boost for your Lead snapshot if you would like to cut through a bit more. Hope that helps :-)

    • @Groove.Saturation
      @Groove.Saturation 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks... I will just have to play with it some more - I have a Power cab but have been taking a Tube amp (Tone King) to gigs and plugging in that way... most problem I think for me is the presets... just completed a studio session and my band keeps complaining they have to reset me in the personal monitoring mix because all my presets change volume... my workflow is nothing like yours so there is too much variability between the presets I use for each song... my setups are individual presets for each song using different amps and different modulations, etc... your workflow seems to be almost backward from that in some ways.. In your bundles, from what I get from your videos, you're using a more limited set of amp(s) and varying the modulation to keep the volume the same or similar between songs... I think your way makes more sense - my way requires too much work and obviously is not as successful... I think the approach of keeping 4 presets on the first lowest 4 positions for basic clean, OD, lead or maybe crunch is a better approach... we play ZZ Top, Santana, Clapton, blues great's, etc... trying to approach those more precise artists tones across presets may be a futile thing...
      The other thing I wish I had was a word file or a PDF file with a formula or recipe how I should setup all my settings across the Helix for my rig and so forth... for instance, I have had my volume knob disengaged for front of House for consistency, but I think it messed with my ability to project more volume on lead play at our studio session, etc... There seems to be unintended knockoffs that happen when I follow down a certain path... I would like to have your "formula" for the entire setup of the board... not just number of 8 snapshots and 10 switches but everything!! I realize there is more than one way to skin a cat, but it would be nice to have a full setup design for at least one professionally proven way to setup a Helix that works for both gigs and in the studio for DI applications.

      Just picked up the Ultimate Bundle so I can play with all the tones and pick the couple of will use... really looking forward to experimenting with a totally new workflow to get a more reliable gig experience into place. Thanks.

    When you switch to stomp from snapshot, does the snapshot you are using stay and then you can add effects to that snapshot? Thanks

    Hi Jason. I have the Helix LT and I would like to be able to assign colours to the Snapshot blocks to reflect the switch rings as in Stomp mode.
    Is this possible? I can't seem to find a way.

    hi Jason - are you going in to the front of your amp, or in to the fx send/return of the amp? Or do you go straight to FOH?
    When going in to amp, would you turn off the amp/cab blocks in the preset?

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  Год назад +1

      I go directly to FOH, and also to a PowerCab 212 for monitoring on stage. But, yes I would turn off the cab block if going into a power amp and real guitar cab. Hope that helps :-)
