Very useful, thanks. Had the opportunity to buy this used but I’ll stick with my original plan to use an 8” grinder with alox or a CBN wheel and an MDF/leather stropping wheel.

Thank you very much for this honest review. I had my sights set on this. It looks good on paper, with good accessories. But I don’t feel confident that this is the right choice for me.

Very informative and useful review, thank you. I think I would have attempted to get my money back after all of the faults you highlighted.

Thanks, I try to be honest and forgiving in any review. I did think of returning the machine, but, it has done everything that it claimed to do but just not very well. I also have nothing to compare it with. May be all whetstone machines are messy. Maybe my skill in using the machine is the problem. I was just very disappointed in the results compared to the how to use information supplied with the machine. They are all based on the bigger more expensive WG250. If it stops working or any part actually fails I will return the machine.

Thanks for the review, this was my opinion and i haven’t used mine for about 6 months. However i have just purchased the Tormek 8" diamond wheel (Nov 2021) and a few (better) Tormek jigs... These are quality and make the RP machine a real budget alternative to the Tormek. My investment now is substantial, but an example of the sharpening is i can now slice a sheet ofA4 paper with my kitchen knife ...not cut but slice a sliver off the sheet. The jigs and setting tools are 500 times better than the RP options. Thanks again for your honest opinion Cheers Paul

Thanks Paul . I thought of changing to the Tormek 8” wheel but I thought the bushing was a different size for the RP shaft. Did you change the bushes ? I also thought about the dry wheels but they are mostly 10” size. Agree the Tormek jigs are streets better. Kind regards Edgson M

I did the same. Added the Tormek diamond wheel and Tormek jigs. The original RP wheel might as well have been made of cheese and the bowl gouge jig is almost impossible to use. With the Tormek additions it's an extremely useable machine. Overall saving of money when compared to the full Tormek kit.

Watched your earlier video and commented there too... Will rather go with the Tormek... (Used to own one) they are very well built and in the end worth the extra money

Thanks for taking the time to comment. As you can see I am not completely happy with this machine. I have also had comments about the short comings of the 8” Tormek machine. As I can only comment on the machine I have it is difficult to compare. The verdict of other users seems to be more todo with the smaller wheel than the build quality of the WG 200. The view I am gathering is that the Tormek 10” is better than the Tormek 8”. Bearing in mind my very limited budget I regret purchasing an 8” system as several folks have found a combination of a low cost 10” machine mated with either a Tormek diamond wheel or CBN wheel is the best compromise between cost and efficiency. Thanks for your interesting view.

Very surprised Record were happy to put their name on this machine. All reviews seem negative. Not what we expect from Record.

Hi it has been some time since I posted this, but I am still of the same mind after 18 months use. Machine still works but my comments on the quality of stone and performance is the same. 10” wheel machine with a better quality of wheel is a better way to go. As with most tools you get what you pay for. If you can afford the Tormek May be worth the silly price, or buy the 10” machine and replace with a better quality of wheel. You may need bushes. But still a less cost than a Tormek. Frankly even the budget 10” machines normal take the guides and a better wheel. The motor is probable the same one used across all the machines. Hope this helps John M meadow craft workshop.
