What amazes me is that he is tall yet so good over the ball, something very rare in rugby which also allows him to play 6 or 7 because of his quick mobility and power
This kid WILL go on the year-end tour and likely cement his spot as the Bok 8 of the future, if he can stay healthy for an extended run. Wiese is the incumbent and it's great having others that can cover but NO ONE has the complete arsenal that Hanekom has.
I agree with you... The next Pierre Spies bt hopefully a much longer future in the bok jersey... I think this Autumn series will be the end of a few bok legends with the up and coming boks taking charge.
South African here. Played school boy rugby, went to an English SA school and we had an awesome team for 3 years. The Afrikaans schools just hit differently.
He is like the perfect combo of Spies and Vermuelen all in one. Incredible athlete and definitely the future Bok no8. Unlucky not to get a spot in the end of year squad.
His speed is invaluable from number 8, and could be just as effective from number 6. Should form a good combination with Pieter-Steph du Toit and Evan Roos. Hanekom is a superbly skilled rugby player. Deserves higher honours.
I am wondering if he can cover other positions besides the 8? Rassie likes versatility. 193cm and 110kg is a handy size for versatility. Maybe a tad more bulk he can add to bring him up to Vermeulen specs (193cm and 119kg) or Wiese (190cm and 120kg). I think an extra 5 kilos in muscle and bulk will make him serious World class for heavy English or French packs in a World Cup or a sticky wet field up North. Just 5 kilos in extra explosiveness and carry punch. My thoughts. Looks a serious prospect.
Nah, he is alright, doesn't need to bulk up, he is heavy enough, he is not a vermeulen or a wiese type of player, he is complete compared to those players, typical south African mentality already contemplating what he needs to do while there's nothing wrong with how he plays, an average weight for an 8thman is is 105 kgs if he is over 191 cm. He can't be turned into a vermeulen clone, he is good enough at what he does already, why should he pick up more weight?
@@anthonymokootherock1362 He gets manhandled off the ball...My observation and the reason I feel a few extra kilos will have him hit harder and be more substantial ruck time...Just an opinion, don't get your panties in a knot.
@@truthandjustice6838 Nah he hasn't been manhandled yet, i don't know which of the Bulls games you have been watching, not even lightweight Jc Pretorius gets manhandled, i have watched all 26 games he had played for the Bulls to date and the hasn't been one where he got bumped off even. He is yet to go Awol in a rugby match ala Pierre spies, he is yet to be dominated by his direct opponent. He has no weakness, averages 12 tackles a match and 3 turnovers for a 8thman every time he takes the field. You are size obsessed.
And think Pierre Spies was a winger in school rugby, how similar they are in hight and weight. I was and still is a Pierre Spies fan, love Vermeulen, Spies was a total beast...0-60 in 4.5sec😅😅

"You don't come to Loftus and think its going to be a fun night for you", never a truer word spoken.

Wow! That would be a crazy combo!
He is playing against Wales. Let’s see how it goes…
The way he dominated the Leinster loose trio with Doris also in his pocket... glad he made it in the Bok squad

Absolute unit!

His gameplay Physique reminds me of Jerome Kaino + David Pocock. Future Springbok legend in making ... Hope he makes Springbok fans proud.
Finallyyy another video 😂❤
How fast and accurate is he on the turnover from his own tackles? Love the speed back to his feet!
