I will never forget the day someone was praising Mamamoo's vocals and another person replied saying that Blackpink was better because Mamamoo was ugly 🙂 ah, yes, because vocal ability is comparable to something as subjective as physical appearance
Nita.0622 I have checked them out actually! I really like Fantasy and Iriwa (I think that's the name of the song). I don't really know the members yet but their main vocalist and lead vocalist are really good.
@@artg33k28 I'm glad to hear this. I don't know the members either, but I will learn more about them If I have time. They are really good, they deserve to be recognized.
Same here, its been a year since I began to stan them, and I just fell in love with their Horror/Fantasy concept and their J-Rock inspired sound, their music videos are High art! They achieve so much, with minimal budget! I'm also an Orbit and a Stay, how cool!
Same. For example: I absolutely adore Red Velvets Discography but what the hell was going on in the Umpah Umpah mini Album? I loved Jumpin' and Umpah Umpah but the rest of the album was straight up disappointing
Alice 2076 Exactly it pisses me off cos they put no effort into promotions etc anymore and they could’ve promoted in the US/worldwide but sm couldn’t be arsed. And yep same i like trouble butterfly affect and jekyll is ok.
It isn’t Red Velvet’s fault that they don’t get to promote. SM doesn’t like to promote them that much. It was looking good for Paycho (at last), but then Wendy... So no promotion anymore.
I found your channel today and currently binge-watching all of your videos. I absolutely love your video topics and the points you make. I wish nothing but success for your channel.
I hate when people say "Don't compare groups". My main argument is that the Kpop industry is about comparing and competing. Trainees face each other to debut, and groups face each other for wins and awards. It is only natural for the fans to also compare groups. On another note, I love having a civil conversation or debate with open minded people who love multiple groups. You can't use logic to argue with someone who only stans one or two groups. Every group is unique and has its strenghts and weaknesses, but mature fans can admit that someone who is not their bias is a better singer or dancer.
I think I’m a mature fan. I know my ult bias, Yeri, isn’t the strongest singer or rapper or dancer, but I love her and I will support her forever. I can still love her vocals and rapping and dancing. I don’t have to force my bias on others.
K M I’ve always thought I’ve been a mature fan as well, I’m a little bit younger but i still put my point down. I’m a sensitive person, a sensitive fan. I got into Kpop in 2016, i always thought people who liked korean pop were sweeter than any other fanbase. But, I wasn’t exposed to anything. I didn’t have many ways to have discussions with Kpop fans. By late 2017 the Kpop fandom started growing rapidly as a whole, a big amount of people with different mindsets and different perspectives of korean pop started to tune in with us. Then i got social media and .. well i saw hate and immature people once in a while but i avoided them as much as I could. As much as i love my groups and idols, i could never be a very “ rough” or “extreme” fan as she said, I’m not that type of person , I’m not going insult or compare a group that i know nothing about. Being biased isn’t illegal but it isn’t right to discuss it in a rude way and make other people feel like you’re attacking their idols. I’ve never been the type of person act mean towards another group even if i didn’t like their music. I always tried to fight against that because i naturally go against what i don’t like and try to see the good in it. For example with twice, i didn’t like cute concepts, i never really checked them out and ignored them. Then one day i started to listen to them out of curiosity and i ended up loving them with all my heart. Anyways to my point , I was one of those people that told people not to compare idols, i didn’t understand why people would compare idols , for example: “rose is better then wendy.” I would think that both idols had their own voices and even if their vocal range was different there would never be anyone like Wendy or Rose. I know most people would actually put their mind and compare their vocals and so on. But I’m not like that, I’m happy with what they do and I’m proud of them for doing so much. I feel like you guys miss the point, what if there wasn’t exo? Or blackpink? Or twice or Bts? Etc. Coming into my next point, Ever since these opinion videos started to pop up in my feed, i liked to see what people thought about others but then they started to get very “blunt” or “honest”. Again as a sensitive fan and a person with that doesn’t really share opinions openly, they started to anger me. I felt like they were putting on an “honest” mask to hate on people, which i didn’t understand at all ! Idols have different lives and personalities and they are different people, if you don’t like them or see anything in them then just don’t talk about them. What happened to the “how ____ changed my life.” or “___ and ____ deserve the world.” But since these videos got popular E V E R Y O N E started saying stuff either good or bad about idols, half of them not knowing anything about them and talking about them with ignorante matters. these videos started popping everywhere, on almost all my social media feeds. I don’t understand why everyone is so negative about everything now, are people really that unhappy? I stopped watching these types of videos, because i wasn’t sure if i was going to see someone hating on an idol or just actually having a decent conversation . Then i discovered this channel talking seriously about blackpink. Then today this video , i try to take hard truths . I feel like other opinion videos are hurting un mature fans more, they’re teaching them that anyone can say anything nasty or stupid without knowledge about them and they have a mouth of a god. I like this channel because they actually try to give people a good solid discussion without brainwashing you into agreeing with everything an opinion video says. I may not agree or take some things to heart but I’m not going to attack her.
Personally, I only accept comparisons if it's one of the following: 1) objective constructive criticism about the groups' performances (e.g. Twice vs Gfriend performance of each other's songs, etc.) 2) the actual competition (e.g. music shows, award shows, etc.) 3) informative comparison (e.g. vocal analysis, choreographic analysis, musical analysis) 4) objective non-degrading comparison (e.g. Blackpink vs Gfriend visuals based on Korean standards or personal preference without outright saying one is ugly and the other is not) 5) Eye for an eye type comparison. Meaning if you make a statement using dance for one, you use the same aspect for the other. if it's gfriend's dance vs mamamoo's vocals, it's fine because they're both strengths. But if it's like "blackpink is better at dancing because they're pretty" it just doesnt make sense. In short, a good debate starter with respect. The problem is that a lot of people just start disrespecting groups. Maybe the way to address these people is wrong but a lot of fans only get triggered when it so happens. After that, they try to get rid of every comparative statements for fear of a disrespectful anti appearing again. This is what I noticed. Otherwise, in my case, I try to make it clear to them that the way of comparison is unacceptable and that they might be looking at the wrong perspective. This is in hopes of getting them to fully understand how to create meaningful interfan conversations.
I wholeheartedly agree. I mean, Idols are pros. People also have to stop being all "aww so talentedddd" when they're doing the bare minimum of their JOB. Hating on idols is immature and silly, but a well-worded, well-meant critique can go a long way. Some idols are better than others at some things. It's common sense. Saying that they're better just because you prefer some things in an idol is an opinion and not a rational, analytical critique.
@trash and co. So basically, you are calling idols not passionate or determined with what they are doing. Many idols work hard in what they are doing because they are passionate and determined, not so they can just get money. Being an idol is hard and it wouldn’t be the best idea to get money from when they could’ve chosen to be one that earns more money than what an idol earns. Someone would have to be brave and confident to try and become an idol. When you said calling someone talented and hardworking isn’t a praise but rather, assumptions, literal guesswork, and general ignorance is pretty pathetic. Everybody has their own opinion on who they would call talented, doesn’t make it ignorant or an assumption, no one can be educated on who or what talent is. It’s based on ones opinion. Also, going with the “hardworking” statement, idols work hard. The idol life is hard. Training is hard. You really think they just go up to the company, sit there until they come and tell you “you are gonna debut already”? Doesn’t matter if it’s their job to work hard, they are still working hard on what they do.
@trash and co. Not everybody in the working world is hardworking. Companies are hard on idols while they are training which causes them to work harder and harder. They are still working hard. As for talent, live vocals and performances are there for a reason, so you can actually see and hear their talent and what they are worth. Going by your example, even if I was behind in a exam and wanted to catch up, I still did all that work and worked hard to finish it.
@trash and co. There is live vocals and performances for a reason. You are trying to make it out like they are manufactured robots which they aren’t. They are humans who have emotions, work hard to achieve their dreams, and can be talented. You are really out here trying to point out how many idols can’t be talented because they are most likely manufactured which is pathetic. There are talented idols out there who work hard that don’t need this kind of nonsense. You probably don’t stan any group with this kind of mindset.
@trash and co. Have you seen idols audition videos? They haven’t even got into training but are still amazing in what they do which is how they got in. The fact that you call being an idol a job and not a dream is stupid because first of all, many idols have dreamed about becoming an idol when they were young and they went forward to it. Many Idols don’t even get paid that much to be working THAT hard. I guess nobody is hard working when obviously there is expectations they have to reach to become successful. Edit: funny how you judge people from assuming things when you are assuming things too. Also, why would idols want to become an idol when it’s a well known fact how hard they have to work?
@trash and co. If they didn’t dream of it or wanted to do it then why would they do it? Some idols do get creative freedom depending on how long you’ve been in the kpop music industry or how well you do it.
Yup a random strangers words don't mean a thing. Just because some say that they don't like you favourite group song give you the right to burn their house down. Teenagers and especially Koreans are so sensitive about this stuff. A complete starngers word don't mean a thing. They should try not to be so in secure
I think that, comparison is important. We can do it in a normal way. We can, and we have to criticize our idols, because it will help them to improve. We can't stay in silence, when our favorite groups do something poorer quality. And we have the right to compare groups. We can't talk about one group without comparison and this isn't a problem. We can argue about who is better vocalist, rapper, composer, dancer, leader, visual. We can discuss, which song has the best music video, the best lyrics or the best choreography. It doesn't means that, another groups are worse or something. It just an opinion about one specific song, compared another ones in the style. I'm happy, when I can be a part of a healthy comparison and discussion. Kpop fandoms should be more open-minded to each other's opions and expectation. Nobody is a fake fan, because doesn't like a song or a video, what was made by his/her favorite group. We have to accept everybody in our community, and we will have a more peaceful atmosphere. (If anybody wanna spread hate, we have to stop them, and protect our idols, but CRITIQUE ISN'T HATE) (Sorry for my poor english, I'm learning it now, so it is hard to me speak it grammatically correct)
What you are saying is very helpful but the internet is so toxic. not only k-pop fans are toxic there are people who hate on k-pop for no reason and their excuses are "k-pop fans are so toxic"-"i never see a sweet, kind, funny k-pop stan" smh 😒😒😔😔😔😔😔😔
Comparing is good if done with a positive mindset but the point is while we do welcome comparisons like I don't like make it right because the instruments cover members' beautiful voices , we only get weird comparisons like "BTS should not win this award because this other group also makes music and ARMYs are toxic and this group's fandom is so much better" like...wtf? That's why people just want to avoid comparison... because 95% of discussions are like this. Even if you try to tell them that what they are saying doesn't make any sense.... they'll argue with stupid points like "lEt oThEr gRoUpS sHiNe tOo" Smh
Jean Elle first of all an opinion is and opinion, it’s how you feel/think of a certain thing. If you love or hate something it’s your opinion. Also what you said about focusing on their fav group makes not sense, that’s not how things work. One group might be your favorite but you can also like a songs or an album from another group. In every fandom the majority of fans are pretty logical and reasonable people who will understand where someone is coming from when they are making critics and comparisons of f the groups. It is a very small group of people in the fandom that cause all the trouble. They make up a small percentage of fans but they are the ones who talk the most and are loudest. It’s actually quite a shame that because of the no one is able to have an opinion and we can’t have an open and critical discussion amongst fellow kpop fans, without being basically bullied into silence.
lpok at them writing long think pieces hunny they know how 95% of fans shade bts in their comparisons but at the same time telling u to shut up and be the bigger person so nope if i see one exo fan try that bs with me id jump her, until exo makes songs like louder than bombs and bts vocal line solo songs we can talk about their vocals
Well said. An opinion is a person's own belief about something. Not everyone has the same beliefs or opinions. I may not like someone's opinion or understand how or why they feel that way, but I respect their right to that opinion. Everyone has the right to their opinion and no one has the right to silence another!
Yes! I’m a TXT fan and I said “I hope BTS treats them well and they become as successful as them!” Or something like that. And someone wrote an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH about why I shouldn’t have said that
Say it louder for the people in the back. I never understood why most fans in Kpop cannot exchange opinions and get offended about literally everything you say. I'd love to see more respectfully exchanged opinions in the fanbase, because I like to see people talking about current topics, even if it's about comebacks with similar concepts or something like that. How are we going to talk to each other about Kpop if we aren't allowed to state an opinion? Also, you're videos are amazing.
I see your point but at the same time people aren’t mature enough for that. We’re human beings at the end of the day. Do I think that people saying ‘Stop comparing’ is stupid? No, cause at the end of the day because humans aren’t perfect their will never not be ‘extreme fans’. There will always be fans that say something along the lines of ‘I don’t know why armies are always so proud of Jungkook’s singing when he sounds like trash compared to Baekhyun’. Or ‘Jimin should just be a backup dancer at this point. At least Taemin can sing.’ I’m not against comparing. In a video I just saw Jimin was compared to Taemin somewhat indirectly. It was basically of vocalists in K-pop who have improved and Taemin is one of them. He has improved a lot whereas Jimin who also didn’t have any knowledge of singing before, during and even after debut still haven’t improved and actually has had quite the vocal decline. Basically the RUclipsr was talking about Taemin’s vocals but he had a caption that basically was saying Jimin could sound like this or improve just like Taemin if he worked more on his vocals. I agree. He has a good tone but he needs the technical skills to back it up. People feel the need to have something to hate on though. Not everybody but they want something to talk about. So they use comparing idols as a means to hate on an idol while uplifting their own. Which is one of the reasons why ‘stop comparing’ idols became a thing. Another reason being that some companies aren’t able to give their idols many opportunities to improve in things like vocals at first. They either have to figure it out till their company was able to get on their feet or they had to use their intuition. Or there are idols that got hated on so bad that they lose all their hope in possibly getting better and hide behind autotune(exp. Sakura).
I'm immediately reminded of fans writing to a company and asking them to give their group better songs. The company actually replied, "Why do we need to work harder on the songs when whatever we put out is enough to get us sales?"
*wants to yeet this video at MOAs who get mad at me when I say TXT needs a little more experience compared to other rookie groups because their performances aren't as audience interactive* Comparing is good. Saying things rationally is good.
i think every 4th gen group as of now needs to take a pointer or two from ateez when it comes to performance. those guys seriously hit it out of the park.
Me: I prefer BTS because I like how many different styles they cover. I also relate to their personalities quite a bit more than other groups. In my opinion they have the best visuals (its very objective, obviously) That one extreme anti/fan of another group: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!? .... VISUALS AND VOCALS ARE SOO MUCH BETTER. Me: did I ask tho
I love them cuz im drawn to their lyrics like it relates so much.. and they have song covering almost all emotions I feel, even though their title tracks/ singles haven't been great I always find some b-sides and collabs song which makes me keep looking forward to their music... I listen to other k-pop as well even though the songs are great I feel bts music speaks to me the most
sucks for me as someone who thrives on analyzing and discussing and because of how hypersensitive kpop is, i resort to talking to myself (as pathetic as it sounds...) because seriously, no one can handle criticism.
skrrt skrrt -- The norm for kpop is that people just can’t criticize . It automatically becomes hate or is hated on- i myself feel into that hole too because I had things going on in my personal life that I restored to songs for emotional support. It’s different for everyone 🤷🏻♀️ I was personally very connected to my groups that I forgot that criticism was something normal.
Mamamoo has stronger singers and I do prefer their stage presence over Blackpink. I also love how each member can just be themselves and shine. Also, their performance of Decalcomanie at Queendom has made me cry. I love all the girls, but I feel Moonbyul because we have similar vibes of having tomboy swagger with long hair. Also, if I ever got into rapping, I'd do that too. However, I think Jisoo has a unique vocal colour that is under utilized by producers (See her cover of Yuki No Hana) and she is overall my favourite idol for personality, because she's incredibly kind, funny, and hardworking not to mention how beautiful she is. Also, Blackpink dances with so much precision and have so much swag as a group. They deserve better and here's to more comebacks like their debut. Boombayah is still one of the songs I love the most mainly because Jisoo got to shine in that black concept. Also, Moonbyul > Jennie.
Wonderful points! Mamamoo are absolutely wonderful artists and performers. I adore their vocals and I'd argue that they have some of the best discographies in kpop. However, I prefer blackpink because I'd argue that they are more "trendy," for lack of a better word. Rather than mamamoo's "Girl Next Door" personalities, I truly see the members of BP as total stars, which I tend to prefer in groups. I also like BP's dynamics with each other, and their personalities fit better to my preferences. Of the groups, I acknowledge that mamamoo are great vocalists, but I ADORE Rosé's voice. I favor more bright, unique, and poppy sounds like hers.
@Cassidy gurl I just know you didn't say that, soyeon would rip moon apart, not only dies soueon have speed, her writing skills are way batter, and her stage presence is almost at 2NE1 CL's level to some extend
I swear, more people need to appreciate this channel. THANK YOU for promoting maturity in the kpop community. I am honestly tired of people assuming that one's insinuating anything when in fact, it's JUST a reasonable discussion. They try to read through the lines way too much that a lot of people actually have to spell out "THIS IS NOT HATE" in every comment or even every video a content creator makes. For example: Fan A: I don't really like ____ because it's not my style Fan B: HOW DARE YOU. THEY GET SO MUCH HATE ALREADY AND YOU'RE JUST ADDING TO IT FFS Fan A: ___ shouldn't get majority of the lines, it's unfair to the other members Fan B: Stop blaming them, it's the company's fault! This may not be the same as the subject of the video, but it's similarly about people assuming the worst when no hate at all is explicitly said. Anyways, I've gone on a rant that probably will be disagreed on by the majority. I just hope there will be more maturity in this community rather than endless arguments over assumptions.
i think what bothers me the most is when stans try to have a conversation about vocal talent or dancing and someone ALWAYS brings up album sales like 😭😭😭
This is what I have been thinking the whole motherfucking time! Like not comparing is just purely impossible and those kpoppies not understanding that is just 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ not even in art like in whatever we do like buy, eat, drink&etc. we compare all the time things&actions with their competitors or previous ones like it's a human thing!!!!
psycho is a good song, no doubt there. but far from red velvet's best when put beside other titles. psycho's chorus didn't reach the peak i quite wanted it to, whereas rbb's chorus was so much more satisfying with how it's got so many ups and downs rather than a steady ascension. even if i took longer to like rbb than psycho, to me, psycho felt really safe sonically and not experimental.
@@no-ku6jp I see your point but I personally prefer the vocals of psycho to rrb and I really liked the verses in psycho as compared to rrb, and I personally prefer the more cosy (gosh that's a weird description) chorus of phycho to the more experimental chorus of rrb but I respect your opinion
Your channel is the definition of underrated. I have been in a marotone of your videos and holy shit it is good. I think you are one of the few channels that don't just use a robot voice w/ a random fancam in the background... also you explain and express your opinions so clearly I love it.
Yens Bird IKR LIKE I DONT UNDERSTAND- I MIGHT COMPARE OBJECTS BUT NOT PEOPLE- PEOPLE CAN BE UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT LIKE WHY. can we just enjoy music please..
@@Sunflower-ig6be because people are unique and different, we compare. everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. people should be critical of the content an idol releases/the idol's abilities. are we gonna stop comparing chefs because "they're all unique and different"? no. we'll assess them as consumers and give criticism and praise where we believe is necessary with other chefs as a reference point. the best way to improve is to have a reference, and the best way to make a point is to also have a reference. people aren't comparing for no reason, we're doing it to show an example, which is absolutely necessary for analytical discussions (if you have been in high school, english/literature require this in most formats.)
skrrt skrrt -- My thoughts have changed from 3 months ago :/ my opinions are very different from k-pop towards other topics. I was in a very different headspace back 3 months ago- people are going to compare, it’s part of society. I guess I wanted everyone to ONLY see the good in idols, that they had other people that told them to improve. Comparing others in a respectful way is how I see things now.
I've been thinking this whenever I see "don't compare groups. Every group is different, hard working and talented so it's unfair to compare them" Like what??
I think comparison is good and necessary as long as it’s done in a reasonable and respectful way. Criticism is needed to help idols improve. One of the things I hate the most is when people use comparison to hate on groups and disguise it as an opinion. That’s the kind of stuff that needs to stop
yes, i agree. the thing with comparing groups is that you can tell who wants to actually have a discussion and who's just looking to start fanwars. I think when you encounter the latter, it's important to either a, just ignore it, or b, tell them that what they're doing is disrespectful and teach them how to properly compare groups (aka, send them this video lolol). You don't want to give into negativity or be rude back, since that's often times what those people want.
I think it's a way of how you comparing them It's something different when you say:"Blackpink just get's one cb a year but gets the attention like X who has 3 cbs a year" or "I think the badboy concept fits BlockB better than Bigbang" or stuff like that, but in my opinion no one should say shit like "omg Mamamoo is so much better than Twice, Twice has so ugly members and their music is trash, Mamamoo are Queeeeeeens"
*SOMEONE SAID IT* I hate it that I can't ever innocently compare groups without someone attacking me. People will literally use it to point fingers at you for StArTiNg FaNwArS while they are the ones who get offended at literally everything. Take several seats and grow up. I will now be sending this video to every single person who tells me not to compare groups. Thank you!
I feel Like the reason why some stans are very sensitive when it comes to comparing is because many people can’t compare healthily without putting down others, and it’s the reason why fanwars start. Healthy comparison isn’t bad, especially when the groups are similar (concept wise, members, genders, skills etc)
I know it’s *really really bad* to compare BTS and BP, but I’m just saying they both only had one cb in 2019. The difference is BTS made a mobile game w it’s own soundtrack and a Japanese release. BP did basically nothing else and it’s because YG treats them like models instead of idols.
Yes, that‘s right. *YG treats Blackpink like models* If I‘m not wrong (I‘m new to Bp and Bts) BTS is with another company that treats them much better?
it's not bad to compare them at all. they are the most influential groups in the western market right now, so analyze away. of course only critical thinkers get the right to compare.
BP is genuinely a wonderful, well rounded group, but their poor management could really the downfall to their career. It absolutely baffles me that YG wouldn't take advantage and profit off their ever-growing popularity while BP is still at its peak.
Wish I could simultaneously share this video to every single Kpop fan rn. Such a well presented and well spoken video. It's like the phrase 'A little competition is healthy'. Everything needs a standard, a single layer comment holds no weight.
I just wanna add something. When a new Western reactor is discovering kpop, a lot of them say "this is like a way better version of The Backstreet Boys/1D/N*SYNC" (I watch mostly BTS stuff so idk what girl groups might get compared to) and people jump on them about how you shouldn't compare them because it's disrespectful or whatever. Don't jump on people for that. Kpop is new to them and their frame of reference is Western artists so it's natural for them to compare a new thing to a thing they are familiar with. It's utter bullshit and I see so many reactors get scared of saying anything because of that.
It's ok to compare groups , like a healthy competition and hoping for the best but the sad thing is this never happens . People start comparing groups and it turns to a whole fanwar and results in the fans hating the other group and dragging it And I'm really glad that you mentioned it in your video .
as someone who loves dancing, i wish this would apply to any discussions of dance in kpop. i'd love to be able to compare lisa and momo for example without stans coming for my head. or a group like twice and a group like red velvet overall as dancers. or even just members to each other. i think there's actually a lot to be gained from dance analysis of idols (especially in terms of company training) and we can end up learning more about dance and its place in the industry. that's worth talking about. it would be nice to be able to do it without disclaimers about how i don't hate any of the artists i'm mentioning (obviously?? why else would i be spending hours watching their fancams???) and reassuring fans that i'm not trying to start a fanwar
I hate how I can't have a normal conversation about k-pop from a professional standpoint with anyone. Those who don't listen to k-pop can't take it seriously, and I've never actually met one fan that looks at k-pop as a whole and not just their biases and how handsome they are or something. Now I don't think I'm some elite intellectual, don't get me wrong, I just feel kinda alone in this. I wanna actually geek out about my favorite music without being laughed out of the room by outsiders or being met with shallow group worship.
Flóra Varga I know right. When you find someone who can have a normal and also critical conversation with especially in open forums it’s ruined by someone who takes everything to heart and acts as if you are making a direct attack at the group. Like one time I was having a discussion with people online and it was focused on a certain group. The topic of hardships came up and someone made a very valid argument saying that most groups in kpop face adversity and they used another group to compare going through hardships and being able to over come it. The comment was not hateful and it added to the discussion. Then came in the “ let’s all rise for our lord and savior group name” saying it’s hate and telling people to stop comparing, but they are the ones that were doing the most comparing and literally spreading toxic hate towards anyone who talked about the group and was not overly praising them. Sorry for the rant it just really gets on my nerves. But when you find those people who can actually have a conversation with it can be one of the best things ever. Hope you get to experience it one day.
when I talked about how I like BTS vocals over exo in an twitter thread which was obviously asking us to choose exo or BTS vocals.....omg everyone was like ik you are lying...blah blah blah....man I am allowed to have opinions
Looking back through your discography. I admire how eloquently you are able to defend yourself and admonish others while also encouraging everyone else to think objectively too 💖 Love your channel and also no pressure because I too suffer from a lot of chronic conditions and take all the time that you need. Ever.
I always compare elements in each group i stan and people get mad at me just for talking about it. This is a very, very important video. Thank you, Mera. Also, i loved all your videos about BLACKPINK, The Álbum, etc✨
A while ago I commented on an official thing (won't say the group, but it's a girl group, that's important context). At the time I had a lot of problems with how girl groups were handled, specifically in how feminine dances were made. Tbh I still do. I don't like most girl group choreography, they can feel really samey to me, especially when boy groups are allowed to do so many weird wild things with their dances. Basically from what I can see ggs have not had their God's Menu and that's a damn shame. I have a list on both hands of the groups I actually enjoy the dancing for, and that comment was on one of the first ones I truly enjoyed. Alas I gave a comparison to a, much more popular group (which I also will not name), whose dancing is pinnacle of the type of stuff I just don't enjoy from ggs. Another bit of context is that I have a tendency to be sincere in online content, especially if it's anonymous like RUclips comments can be, and I assume that most others are too. So when I got a "stop comparing" message I just replied with sincerity that it's a taste thing, and that I don't necessarily think that comparing is bad, and got a cold shoulder for it (well, technically I got a "k." for it, which I understand is a burn but at the same time just comes across like you didn't even read it. It's the discourse equivalent of interrupting a passionate discussion with "don't care." and repeating it every time they talk until they stop) Basically, that conversation has stuck with me a little. The reason I'm so passionate about gg dances is because I have a love for choreography, and I feel like most companies don't give girl groups anything new. That's an industry problem. I'm not complaining about the girls themselves, I'm not saying they're bad at dancing (I love dancing but I can't actually tell if someone is really a bad dancer). I'm saying that nobody gives them a chance, which is a lot different and is a conversation that everyone should have when talking about an industry that's divided by gender like this. But yet no, because I brought up a group directly and you shouldn't compare.
I'm so glad you made this video. I was starting to think that I was the only one who disliked when people said that, and that I was wrong for thinking this way. You, as always, worded this so perfectly and explained the problems better than I ever could
OMG THANK you. This really does need to be said. Comparing groups objectively is NOT a bad thing to do; in fact, how are you going to know your own tastes and what you like/don't like if you DON'T compare groups and their music? It doesn't mean you're hating on anyone, just that you're saying "I'm not a fan of X group/comeback/music style *and here is why*" As long as someone can back up their opinions and explain why something does or does not appeal to them and why instead of just spouting off baseless rhetoric, then I don't think anyone should be any problems even if they might not personally agree. Too often I think people base too much of their identities around the groups they stan, so someone not personally liking them feels like a personal attack, even if their reasons are valid, so the knee-jerk reaction is to pile on the naysayer and verbally beat them into submission. As you said, though, this shuts down all hope of having actual dialogues and discussions about music tastes or concepts or anything else, and I don't think it's good for anyone to live in an echo chamber.
Everyone who shared their honest opinion on a youtube video and received the good old "did you get hit by a car you dumb bi-" comments gathered here to shed a tear
Dissecting a Kpop singer/group's style and technical prowess has to be one of the most courageous and forthright things that a Kpop fan can do these days. I hope more Kpop fans could see this video so that they can reflect on their own participation in discussions on their favorite idols.
MY GOD THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I remember when I was talking with my friend who is also a Taeyong stan like me. Though she kinda started late, she stan Kang Daniel to death and put NCT to side but now she bought ALL NCT ALBUMS AND BUY TY PC WORTH RM107. I don't really remember how we got into this conversation but I think she asked me if I like Taeyong's solo, Long Flight. I listen to that song once but it didn't really catch my interest that much, kinda not my style. but I still love Taeyong, seriously. so I told her that I think Long Flight is okay, so-so and my God she was mad like, "OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU LIKE THE SONGGGG????????" I'm like, bitch, I just said its okay, not garbage. can you read? (didn't really say these exact words tho, I don't like fights) then she started telling me how she loves the song and she listens to it every day when she drives to her internship place. she knew I like analysis and video essay and told me to write AN ESSAY of why I think the song is just okay. PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES CAN'T YOU JUST STICK THAT INSIDE YOUR BRAIN
Personally I think comparison is fine as far as you dont downsize any of the objects of comparison and immature people just don't seem to get that I guess 🤦
This rings so true with me. I used to be very active in the KPOP communitty, especially on Twitter. But I got attacked by extreme fans and had to take a break for 2 - 3 years. I used to love it. I am primarily a BTS stan and I praise them most of the time and all their members. However for one comeback Taehyung had a mullet.... It wasn't my favourite thing I just made a comment about how I missed a certain hairstyle he had and that mullets weren't my favourite thing, even if it was BTS who had it.... All of a sudden I was attacked by a lot of fans because apparently Taehyung had been very sad about a lot of mean comments about his hair and it was ruining his self-esteem. I wasn't even making mean comments and I was always supporting the boys, Taehyung included, but now I was the devil that had been mean to Taehyung.... I got so many mean DM's and there were comments on so many of my Twitter posts. I tried to be mature about it and not get sad, but now the fans attacking me made me feel like a bad person and I stopped Twitter for a while. I then came back for some time and made an unlucky comment one time about some of BTS music, because it (for a time) had changed for me and their new style wasn't what I used to like about BTS. Attacked again. I stopped Twitter and the entire KPOP community for 2-3 years beside having friends etc that I used to chat with daily. Now I'm older and more confident and can see that the way they attacked me for voicing my oppinion was wrong. Sure I could have been more considerate about Taehyungs hair, although I don't think he read my comment nor would have found it offensive in the first place, as I still made sure it was said with love. I'm back in the community now for a week and hope not to get affected and sad by these things anymore and hope to be able to voice my oppinion. I will not be commenting on hair or clothes I don't like anymore though.... The fans can't handle it, and it makes me sick.... It's not a personal attack if someone don't like a particular hairstyle or EDM style....
I'm so late here but this video was very refreshing. Comparisons are unavoidable, they are inherent and necessary for any form of diversity and quality in LIFE. We may not always put words to our comparisons but they certainly are made manifest through our views and purchases, as you explained. None of us rolled the dice and picked a fav, a whole lot of comparing went into that- much of it probably involuntary because humans are just like that. It would be nice to talk about things like that more often but finding someone mature enough is difficult. All your truths seemed spot on to me.
Thank you for making this video. I'm so tired of seeing annoying people telling others to stop comparing when they aren't even bringing other groups down, but just giving a respectful opinion or point of view. 🙄
More people should watch this video, this is the standard behaviour kpop fans should have in order to actually grow up and not being labelled as the "crazy fans", Our artists can actually grow musically, concept wise etc if we criticize them correctly and not just hate on stupid shit or blindly compliment them . Then we can actually call out companies' bullshit and get what we want either for ourselves or our idols
I really liked hearing your opinion. I think that comparing can also highlight some cool things about other artists that others may become interested in. Comparing is sharing opinions, and it is always refreshing to hear a new opinion about a group, or something that someone likes about a group. It can introduce people to maybe some new favourite vocalists, or a new song, a different concept you haven’t heard of before, or just a new love for the other group.
For years I’ve always viewed BTS and EXO has a healthy competition. Even the artist themselves gets motivated to improve themselves whenever they see a competitors. It doesn’t need to be ugly or rude or nasty and like they don’t need to be enemies to complete? (Like what) Both groups are friends but they’re still competitive. And TBH it’s the culture there, it’s like a motivation of self improvement to be better and better. It’s immature conversations and ugly fanwars that made things so unpleasant..... the inability to handle criticism and creating the whole victim narrative... like... TBH if only one group is successful, there is no bar to set, no improvement to achieve..the industry can be HELLA boring. But then we have to admit sometimes comparison can get out of hand.. if it isn’t constructive or when it becomes a personal attack..but yeah we all knew... they all came from extreme fans...
this is an industry and comparison is what should happen for ourselves to get to know what we like and prefer! and yes discussion and comparison is important in my opinion, that helped me determine which group i want to focus on and support
From my perspective, I think that having opinions and allowing talks about group comparison should be encouraged, especially if it's a well-thought out topic. However, as a person who does say "Don't compare groups" fairly often lol, I do it because it can be tiring to hear people bring up different groups and pit them together. Some people just want to enjoy the music; not everyone wants to argue about/listen to why XYZ does this better than XYZ, even if it is an enlightening discussion. I personally don't like conflict so it's kinda stressful to, for example, encounter someone comparing groups when fans at that moment are just trying to enjoy a group comeback. ^^
xX Xx tbh if you just want to listen to the music you can do just that. You don’t have to join in on any of those conversations that are going on. Like people say that it’s annoying and that there is no need for it. But like they don’t have to click on the videos talking about it or read through the comments. Just go straight to the music and listen to it. It really is that simple.
@@nightlongg4758 I wish, but the thing is that when you're in the kpop culture, there's a whole community involved, and unless you're just a casual kpop fan, you won't _just_ listen to the music. You know, making fandom friends, getting updated on comebacks and group's scheduales, etc. I'm not trying to bebunk OP's points cuz I agree with them. I'm just stating a possible reason why one would use the statement "Don't compare". I generally mind my business and I don't engage in discussion topics, but I just find it a bit tiring to see so much "this group does ___ better than this group". It also usually tends to be people bickering, (not people having an insightful conversation), which results in another fandom war. It pops up all the time on my social media TL and that's just my personal problem lol, but it's still annoying. I agree that there is a need for discussion, but it can get annoying if it's not for the right reasons, that's all I'm saying.
While I agree with most of what's been said in the video, I'm not sure I agree that we can create a standard for what is "good" and what isn't. While comparisons and criticizing should be allowed, (as long as it's a valid point: "I think this idol could be more stable" and not "This idol is a horrible singer"), it's almost always subjective. I don't think art can be seen 100% objectively. For example, with Dalla Dalla, lots of people have argued that it is "overproduced" and "messy". According to this video, then that would mean that it should be a sign for the industry to make less "messy" songs... Except that I personally (and I know I'm not alone) love songs that have a ton of layers (a number of layers that would be considered too much for some), I love songs in which I still discover new layers on my 50th listen of it months after the song was released. Does that mean Dalla Dalla should be considered good because I like it ? No. Does that mean the song should be considered bad because people dislike it ? Also no. The fact is that there will always be people on both sides of arguments. "When you say 'don't compare', you're trying to sell me this idea that every song is in its own right perfect." But isn't that kind of the case, since music is so subjective ? For every person that dislike a song, it might be someone else's favorite. I personally think Kill this love's chorus is empty and that the lyrics often sound weird. But it's my best friend's #1 favorite song. Do I think he's wrong ? No. This is why I think "don't compare groups" has some truth to it. We can't create a standard for what's good, because people will always like different things (like Twice's color pop versus RV's velvet sound, for example). I've heard multiple people say Seventeen have the most interesting choreographies, but for me no one is as interesting to watch dance as GOT7. Are Seventeen more in sync ? Possibly. Does that mean I think GOT7 is not synchronized enough ? Not at all. I don't think we can define what is "bad" (for songs. Vocals etc is another story). I mean, you said it yourself : "The thing I call shlock, you're allowed to like it. You're allowed to feel like it's the greatest piece of art ever made." This is why I almost feel like this video is contradicting itself ? Yeah, discussion should be open, and people should be allowed to (respectfully) critique without the fans of the group calling them names in the comments. But as we all like different things, we're never gonna be able to establish what is bad versus what is good. And I think people should get a little more used to backing their opinions with actual arguments, instead of saying one sentence and not justifying it. I think most of the time the people making "unpopular opinions" videos are in the attention seeker category, they're just trying to start conflicts in their comment section. What we *can* observe a bit more objectively is if an artist is doing something new, taking risks and reinventing themselves enough, or not. I personally think that's more important. But even then, there's never gonna be a consensus, because we all have different sensibilities for what's new, what's different. So yeah. Maybe I'm off the mark, or maybe I'm actually agreeing with this video and I don't know it lol. I will also add : when fans support a comeback even when they didn't like it, I don't think it's because they want to get more music they won't like. It's because they believe their idols will get better, and they believe they'll like the next song more, and they're willing to have faith. And in the meantime, they'll help their idols achieve what they can even with the song they dislike because companies are fickle ; if a group suddenly gets less attention, will the company get better at composing or will they just make the group disband or go on an indefinite hiatus ?
this was a great essay, and I understand your point. basically, people need to just like the music they like, express their opinions and criticize respectfully, and move on
@@thefxfestival me : *writes 5 whole paragraphs* you : *perfectly summarizes most of what I said in a single sentence* me : *surprised pikachu face* honestly, your second sentence could have been my conclusion haha. thank you for saying it was great, I'm glad you liked it
honestly the only reason i say it, is because people have their opinions, but dont know how to state it. stans often drag the other group "talentless" "overrated" these are terms that just disrespect their years of hardwork. state your opinions respectfully. thats that.
and I actually like these discussions, especially ones that aren't really between kpop fans only. I once had a discussion with a non kpop fan about the difference between kpop and Jpop, he presented his argument, I countered and presented mine, all while both of us stayed sane and rational about it. We ended the discussion without blocking each other.
This is art. Periodt. I stan this channel. I think people should be more critic with what they consume because that's what's gonna make things improve. If not, we're gonna stick to mediocricy. And you can love something with all your heart, but aknowledge its flaws is allowed and completely ok, and we should be mature enough to know it. Thanks for the video, it's really needed. Your vids are great!
I love this video. It’s necessary, but at the same time it’s sucks cuz I know SOMEBODY is already complaining and posting hateful comments in the comment section of this video. Very sad.
Also, another thing I like is that opening discussion for different preferences helps promote the healthiness of accepting the “agree to disagree” mentality that the world just can’t get a hold of right now. This is how politics should work, but it’s not right now. And that has leaked into kpop fandoms
I will never forget the day someone was praising Mamamoo's vocals and another person replied saying that Blackpink was better because Mamamoo was ugly 🙂 ah, yes, because vocal ability is comparable to something as subjective as physical appearance
What an amazing world we live in
I’m sorry but I laughed way too hard at that. WTF??
It’s like comparing apple to a chair. Like how??? You’re talking about two different subjects lol
To be fair, it was a mamamoo vs blackpink type of video, so the tension between fandoms was high, but still
wth??? Mamamoo's visuals slay, and so do Blackpink's

Currently what I'm doing
I hate when people say "Don't compare groups". My main argument is that the Kpop industry is about comparing and competing. Trainees face each other to debut, and groups face each other for wins and awards. It is only natural for the fans to also compare groups.
On another note, I love having a civil conversation or debate with open minded people who love multiple groups. You can't use logic to argue with someone who only stans one or two groups. Every group is unique and has its strenghts and weaknesses, but mature fans can admit that someone who is not their bias is a better singer or dancer.
Yess the roots of all fanwars is an immature fans
Anyways to my point ,
I was one of those people that told people not to compare idols, i didn’t understand why people would compare idols , for example: “rose is better then wendy.” I would think that both idols had their own voices and even if their vocal range was different there would never be anyone like Wendy or Rose. I know most people would actually put their mind and compare their vocals and so on. But I’m not like that, I’m happy with what they do and I’m proud of them for doing so much. I feel like you guys miss the point, what if there wasn’t exo? Or blackpink? Or twice or Bts? Etc. Coming into my next point,
Ever since these opinion videos started to pop up in my feed, i liked to see what people thought about others but then they started to get very “blunt” or “honest”.
K M ugh i knoww thank you 🥰
K M also sorry my grammar errors
Personally, I only accept comparisons if it's one of the following:
1) objective constructive criticism about the groups' performances (e.g. Twice vs Gfriend performance of each other's songs, etc.)
2) the actual competition (e.g. music shows, award shows, etc.)
3) informative comparison (e.g. vocal analysis, choreographic analysis, musical analysis)
4) objective non-degrading comparison (e.g. Blackpink vs Gfriend visuals based on Korean standards or personal preference without outright saying one is ugly and the other is not)
5) Eye for an eye type comparison.
This is in hopes of getting them to fully understand how to create meaningful interfan conversations.
discussion starter pack: respect, logic and humility.

That's why people just want to avoid comparison... because 95% of discussions are like this. Even if you try to tell them that what they are saying doesn't make any sense.... they'll argue with stupid points like "lEt oThEr gRoUpS sHiNe tOo"

Everyone has the right to their opinion and no one has the right to silence another!
ignore them and link them to this video. that's what i'm starting to do.
Yes! I’m a TXT fan and I said “I hope BTS treats them well and they become as successful as them!” Or something like that. And someone wrote an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH about why I shouldn’t have said that
“Oh my gosh guys, you can’t compare Monet with Matisse, every artist has his own talent, stop comparing painters”.
Yeah, that sound dumb...
I literally just said that Seungyeon, Momo and Chungha are the best female dancers of 3rd gen and alot of Lisa stans attacked me☠️☠️
Similar thing happened to me, I said Chaeyeon, Chungha and Yves are the best dancers and all Lisa, Momo, Seulgi stans attacked me 💀
Lisa’s my bias but that’s insane 💀 personally I think she’s one of the best dancers but people can think otherwise lol
Sakura).
These vids say everything I couldn't
Your better at explaining than my math teacher omg
Everyone is better at explaining than a math teacher😂🤣🤣
Ladybug Cutie 😅😅😅😂😂😂
I can hate a song and still acknowledge that it is a masterpiece. The same way I can love a song and acknowledge it is very lacking.
I'm immediately reminded of fans writing to a company and asking them to give their group better songs. The company actually replied, "Why do we need to work harder on the songs when whatever we put out is enough to get us sales?"
Which company?
*wants to yeet this video at MOAs who get mad at me when I say TXT needs a little more experience compared to other rookie groups because their performances aren't as audience interactive*
Comparing is good.
In my opinion they have the best visuals (its very objective, obviously)
That one extreme anti/fan of another group: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!? .... VISUALS AND VOCALS ARE SOO MUCH BETTER.
Me: did I ask tho
They don't have genre they are himself
I love them cuz im drawn to their lyrics like it relates so much.. and they have song covering almost all emotions I feel, even though their title tracks/ singles haven't been great I always find some b-sides and collabs song which makes me keep looking forward to their music... I listen to other k-pop as well even though the songs are great I feel bts music speaks to me the most
THIS is the video ive been looking for. theres literally NOTHING wrong with comparing groups, people are just SO hecking SENSITIVE.
sucks for me as someone who thrives on analyzing and discussing and because of how hypersensitive kpop is, i resort to talking to myself (as pathetic as it sounds...) because seriously, no one can handle criticism.
skrrt skrrt
--
The norm for kpop is that people just can’t criticize . It automatically becomes hate or is hated on- i myself feel into that hole too because I had things going on in my personal life that I restored to songs for emotional support. It’s different for everyone 🤷🏻♀️ I was personally very connected to my groups that I forgot that criticism was something normal.
@@Sunflower-ig6be criticism shouldn't be an abnormality and shouldn't be forgotten. i can understand abstaining from it though.
Wooohooo I have to agree on your opinion about jisoo.... I don't listen to bp a lot but ma'am she is amazing!!!!! I love her vocal style!!!
@Cassidy gurl I just know you didn't say that, soyeon would rip moon apart, not only dies soueon have speed, her writing skills are way batter, and her stage presence is almost at 2NE1 CL's level to some extend
I think that miscommunication is the biggest fault in humankind
I swear, more people need to appreciate this channel. THANK YOU for promoting maturity in the kpop community. I am honestly tired of people assuming that one's insinuating anything when in fact, it's JUST a reasonable discussion. They try to read through the lines way too much that a lot of people actually have to spell out "THIS IS NOT HATE" in every comment or even every video a content creator makes. For example:
Fan A: I don't really like ____ because it's not my style
Fan B: HOW DARE YOU. THEY GET SO MUCH HATE ALREADY AND YOU'RE JUST ADDING TO IT FFS
Fan A: ___ shouldn't get majority of the lines, it's unfair to the other members
Fan B: Stop blaming them, it's the company's fault!
This may not be the same as the subject of the video, but it's similarly about people assuming the worst when no hate at all is explicitly said. Anyways, I've gone on a rant that probably will be disagreed on by the majority. I just hope there will be more maturity in this community rather than endless arguments over assumptions.
i think what bothers me the most is when stans try to have a conversation about vocal talent or dancing and someone ALWAYS brings up album sales like 😭😭😭
And someone always draggs BTS and army into their conversation 😂
YES someone always has to say "__ outsold" like okay? they can outsell but that doesn't effect their vocal range or their stage presence.
BoraboraHae i might not agree on the last part but i love how funny your comment is lmAo
Right!! Like make it make sense.
"and the food would be terrible" Yes, Namjoo, please stop the ketchup bath.
I'll be honest I prefer psycho over really bad boy
That's not very controversial, pretty sure everyone, but me, prefers psycho over RBB
I agree with you psycho is so good
Yea same
psycho is a good song, no doubt there. but far from red velvet's best when put beside other titles. psycho's chorus didn't reach the peak i quite wanted it to, whereas rbb's chorus was so much more satisfying with how it's got so many ups and downs rather than a steady ascension. even if i took longer to like rbb than psycho, to me, psycho felt really safe sonically and not experimental.
How about we just focus on music? Let the idols compete not us..
Anyways imma jump right there if someone DISRESPECTS soshi in the name of comparison
Yens Bird IKR LIKE I DONT UNDERSTAND- I MIGHT COMPARE OBJECTS BUT NOT PEOPLE- PEOPLE CAN BE UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT LIKE WHY. can we just enjoy music please..
There is nothing wrong with having an healthy conversation with others and it involving comparisons.

My thoughts have changed from 3 months ago :/ my opinions are very different from k-pop towards other topics. I was in a very different headspace back 3 months ago- people are going to compare, it’s part of society. I guess I wanted everyone to ONLY see the good in idols, that they had other people that told them to improve. Comparing others in a respectful way is how I see things now.
@@nightlongg4758 you know how kids react.. + you can't downgrade any popular idol
*this is the most underated channel*
Great video, the way you explained made a lot of sense.
I've been thinking this whenever I see "don't compare groups. Every group is different, hard working and talented so it's unfair to compare them"
Like what??
I think comparison is good and necessary as long as it’s done in a reasonable and respectful way. Criticism is needed to help idols improve. One of the things I hate the most is when people use comparison to hate on groups and disguise it as an opinion. That’s the kind of stuff that needs to stop
The only time that comparing groups annoy me is when it's done with bad intentions, like saying "Twice could never" in a Blackpink video or viceversa
yes, i agree. the thing with comparing groups is that you can tell who wants to actually have a discussion and who's just looking to start fanwars. I think when you encounter the latter, it's important to either a, just ignore it, or b, tell them that what they're doing is disrespectful and teach them how to properly compare groups (aka, send them this video lolol). You don't want to give into negativity or be rude back, since that's often times what those people want.
I think it's a way of how you comparing them
It's something different when you say:"Blackpink just get's one cb a year but gets the attention like X who has 3 cbs a year" or "I think the badboy concept fits BlockB better than Bigbang" or stuff like that, but in my opinion no one should say shit like "omg Mamamoo is so much better than Twice, Twice has so ugly members and their music is trash, Mamamoo are Queeeeeeens"
And I love “Just because your group is talented and hardworking doesn’t mean the music deserves to be untouched”!!!!!
*RICHARD RUN*

I hate it that I can't ever innocently compare groups without someone attacking me. People will literally use it to point fingers at you for StArTiNg FaNwArS while they are the ones who get offended at literally everything. Take several seats and grow up.
I will now be sending this video to every single person who tells me not to compare groups. Thank you!
Stan twt, y'all should learn
idk how but this woman was at 12k yesterday and now 16k- she is worth it
Comparing groups IS NECESSARY to a CERTAIN LIMIT.
You need more views tbh, tea
I feel Like the reason why some stans are very sensitive when it comes to comparing is because many people can’t compare healthily without putting down others, and it’s the reason why fanwars start. Healthy comparison isn’t bad, especially when the groups are similar (concept wise, members, genders, skills etc)
I know it’s *really really bad* to compare BTS and BP, but I’m just saying they both only had one cb in 2019. The difference is BTS made a mobile game w it’s own soundtrack and a Japanese release. BP did basically nothing else and it’s because YG treats them like models instead of idols.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 finally somebody talked about it
Yes, that‘s right.
*YG treats Blackpink like models*
If I‘m not wrong (I‘m new to Bp and Bts) BTS is with another company that treats them much better?
@@acaterinab yes, that's right
it's not bad to compare them at all. they are the most influential groups in the western market right now, so analyze away. of course only critical thinkers get the right to compare.
BP is genuinely a wonderful, well rounded group, but their poor management could really the downfall to their career. It absolutely baffles me that YG wouldn't take advantage and profit off their ever-growing popularity while BP is still at its peak.
This has nothing to do with the video but the clip at 5:00, I can't even.
Wish I could simultaneously share this video to every single Kpop fan rn. Such a well presented and well spoken video. It's like the phrase 'A little competition is healthy'. Everything needs a standard, a single layer comment holds no weight.
the army exo-l thing isn’t even about the music or artistry really there’s just a LOT of history there
Jfc, stans really need to let the history GO. Bangtan and exo are friends, so the fans' behaviour is really uncalled for.
I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone speak so maturely about the K-pop industry
People start comparing groups and it turns to a whole fanwar and results in the fans hating the other group and dragging it
And I'm really glad that you mentioned it in your video .
as someone who loves dancing, i wish this would apply to any discussions of dance in kpop. i'd love to be able to compare lisa and momo for example without stans coming for my head. or a group like twice and a group like red velvet overall as dancers. or even just members to each other. i think there's actually a lot to be gained from dance analysis of idols (especially in terms of company training) and we can end up learning more about dance and its place in the industry. that's worth talking about. it would be nice to be able to do it without disclaimers about how i don't hate any of the artists i'm mentioning (obviously?? why else would i be spending hours watching their fancams???) and reassuring fans that i'm not trying to start a fanwar
I remember before txt debuted I commented on one of their trailers that they gave me seventeen and astro vibes and I got ATTACKED
@@nightlongg4758 Don't worry, I rant more than I blink. 😅
when I talked about how I like BTS vocals over exo in an twitter thread which was obviously asking us to choose exo or BTS vocals.....omg everyone was like ik you are lying...blah blah blah....man I am allowed to have opinions
I prefer exos vocals over BTS even tho I'm an army 💜:)
Looking back through your discography. I admire how eloquently you are able to defend yourself and admonish others while also encouraging everyone else to think objectively too 💖
Love your channel and also no pressure because I too suffer from a lot of chronic conditions and take all the time that you need.
It's the discourse equivalent of interrupting a passionate discussion with "don't care." and repeating it every time they talk until they stop)
Basically, that conversation has stuck with me a little.
I just want to say, I love your voice and how your sentences are worded
I listen to that song once but it didn't really catch my interest that much, kinda not my style. but I still love Taeyong, seriously. so I told her that I think Long Flight is okay, so-so and my God she was mad like, "OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU LIKE THE SONGGGG????????"
I'm like, bitch, I just said its okay, not garbage. can you read? (didn't really say these exact words tho, I don't like fights)
then she started telling me how she loves the song and she listens to it every day when she drives to her internship place. she knew I like analysis and video essay and told me to write AN ESSAY of why I think the song is just okay.
PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES CAN'T YOU JUST STICK THAT INSIDE YOUR BRAIN
I think that kind of discussion is the best when you do it with close friends, specially in real life.
Yukihira Rin that’s true, but also with others that know how to have an open discussion with out taking things to heart.
Personally I think comparison is fine as far as you dont downsize any of the objects of comparison and immature people just don't seem to get that I guess 🤦
The most angering comparison is this group is the succession to or is the next . Sigh
Whenever I see a comment section that has 30+ replies I already know something went down. Or they just spamming.
OMG YES 😂

As obvious as it may seem, i'm an insomnia and i started watching your videos after i watched the history of insomnia, your videos are real good
This rings so true with me.
Probably the only video that doesn't have dislikes
Btw:
I agree :3
These metaphors are too much 😂. Great video. Immaturity leads to a breakdown of communication
This is a great video :D Your humor had me legit laughing out loud XD
2:20 gurl I spilled my tea... but that example was so on point lol
I agree with you completely, you explained it better than I ever could! (And on an unrelated topic, Xiumin's face at 0:41 is hilarious lol)

I wish, but the thing is that when you're in the kpop culture, there's a whole community involved, and unless you're just a casual kpop fan, you won't _just_ listen to the music.
Exactly
There is a difference between criticism and slander
And in the meantime, they'll help their idols achieve what they can even with the song they dislike because companies are fickle ; if a group suddenly gets less attention, will the company get better at composing or will they just make the group disband or go on an indefinite hiatus ?
this was a great essay, and I understand your point. basically, people need to just like the music they like, express their opinions and criticize respectfully, and move on
@@thefxfestival me : *writes 5 whole paragraphs*
you : *perfectly summarizes most of what I said in a single sentence*
me : *surprised pikachu face*
honestly, your second sentence could have been my conclusion haha. thank you for saying it was great, I'm glad you liked it
honestly the only reason i say it, is because people have their opinions, but dont know how to state it. stans often drag the other group "talentless" "overrated" these are terms that just disrespect their years of hardwork. state your opinions respectfully. thats that.
and I actually like these discussions, especially ones that aren't really between kpop fans only. I once had a discussion with a non kpop fan about the difference between kpop and Jpop, he presented his argument, I countered and presented mine, all while both of us stayed sane and rational about it. We ended the discussion without blocking each other.
I love how there are so many matured, normal, chill and "not OA" fans in this channel! This is so peaceful
Very sad.
I've been screaming the title of this video for like 3 years.
Thankyou, your a reasonable K-pop stan and trust me there hard to find sometimes.
Ur channel is so underrated u deserve more I hope ur channel grows more
Also, another thing I like is that opening discussion for different preferences helps promote the healthiness of accepting the “agree to disagree” mentality that the world just can’t get a hold of right now.
This is how politics should work, but it’s not right now. And that has leaked into kpop fandoms
I cannot wait to binge watch your videos 😂 You put across your points in such a well laid out manner! ❤️
