Here's a fun fact for you, the dog they have as Tiangou is the Chow-Chow, aka big puffy lion dog. People believed the chow-chow got it's purple tongue from licking a fallen star, so it seems appropriate it was chosen to be a space dog.
Well a major plot point is lifted pretty much exactly from the Journey(s) to the West. Kind of a spoiler though. By the way this always irks me about classic stories. People gloss over plot twists becuase they either already know them and don't even try to imagine what the expected outcome was or completely not realise they are there. The Ramayana is an especially riddled with this problem as while it is partially meant to be a historical-ish account like people expect it to be it is mostly comedy (like an ancient version of "History of the Entire World, I Guess") with the story basically turning into a parody of the hero genre, as most of the main cast take everything extremely unseriously, while still doing everything expected of a holy book. The Ramayana especially has a recurring gag of being basically nothing but plot twists, so when you don't realise they exist it removes much of the point of the tale and a lot of its ultimate messages. Plot twists are brilliant in classics, but they do require an appreciation that they are plot twists and deliberately subvert the previous narrative, not flow from it.
No, We don't believe that it is a great example of Chinese culture, we saw it as a great representation of Western affection toward Chinese culture. It was like a love letter from American filmmakers to China. So we appreciated and adored it. Therefore, it's more about the intentions behind the Kung Fu Panda more than the film itself. I can safely tell you that it is not an accurate depiction of Chinese culture.

I just don’t understand why people would say that. My two younger sisters are both adopted from China and I 100% consider them my baby sisters but I also see them as Chines. They’re beautiful little Chines girls and I would fight someone if they tried to convince me otherwise just because they aren’t completely in touch with their culture . Anyway, I wish you a wonderful December.

Ironically, it deals with grief in the exact opposite direction. Miguel (and his family) learns that, even in death, his family will always have each other's back; Fei Fei and Chang'e learn to move on because otherwise they would sacrifice their relationships and emotional health by refusing to let go of someone who can't come back. Kind of neat how at 7:26 you say that in China, white is no longer the color of mourning. That it's more of an ancient thing now. But at the end, we see Chang'e wearing white when she mourns her loss of Houyi, because no matter how modern she seems to be, she's from ancient times in her core. That's a nice touch. Idk, I might be reading too much into it lol. Also Kokochin is the most adorable kitty ever.
Sorry to revive this post, but at my great-grandma's funeral, about a half of my relatives were wearing 100% white, no black. It might be a lower class/middle class divide thing, though.

Idk if this is completely accurate but when my mom was in middle school her hair was to long and the teacher just cut it at school. Or it’s just some other story I heard somewhere else. But the teacher definitely told her to cut her hair.
In most of Nepal, we girls have two braided pig tails in like a loop or something that is tied with a red/white ribbon. Our school thought that it was a hassle so they made us keep our hair in a ponytail and braid the loose hairs lol. If you didn't braid your hair, u getting scolded honey! The guys had it hard tho like their hair couldn't touch their ear or else they would cut it completely and make them go bald. Which is quite hilarious tho. chinese people: i must specify down to the exact degree how this person is related to me desi people: everyone my age is a cousin and everyone older is an auntie
I'd disagree, Chinese people call anyone much older auntie (Ayi) or Uncle (Shu Shu), anyone only a little older is big sister (Jie Jie) or big brother (Ge Ge), and if the are younger you say little sister (Mei Mei), little brother (Di Di), or little friend (xiao pengyou). My source is living in China and having a Chinese girlfriend who constantly teaches me the proper ways to address her friends and family. Edit: to go off of what she says in the video there are more specific names you can use for immediate family (she gives some examples in the video) but from understanding this isn't culturally required and no one will be offended if you just use the titles I listed above. However it is useful to use the more specific titles when doing things like giving toasts when you are out to dinner with the family because you have to give them to members of the family separately. You normally do that from oldest to youngest, dad's side then mom's side, so for clarification you do use the more complex titles.

I’d love to see you talk about Kung Fu Panda since Chinese people actually say that it’s a GREAT example of Chinese culture

My Mom's family is Irish and that's how we address each other too at big events. Family friends also got adopted as cousins, aunts, and uncles.
You normally do that from oldest to youngest, dad's side then mom's side, so for clarification you do use the more complex titles.

me, black latine from brazil's northeast: OH MY GOD, SAME
I'm from Brazil's northeast too and yeah, can relate
Brazilian southeastern with northeastern grandparents (I know it's a stereotype, but bear with me pls): SAME.
One time my little sister decided to adopt one of the crabs, named it "Azul" (it had some blue accents), created a house for it out of a shoebox, with a bed and different rooms and everything. She really bonded with it during the day, I'm pretty sure there are pictures of them stored somewhere, it was a whole thing.
It ended up in a pot. On the same day.
@@thaissa215 Oh God lolol rip
@@thaissa215 oof, your sister must have been traumatized 😬
S A M E ! I actually feel like Brazilian northeastern culinary is actually quite similar to a few asian cultures! Like cooking seafood in leite de côco (coconut milk) and yeah!
I'm not Chinese and I'm not even really invested in these movies but GIRL I WILL WATCH /EVERYTHING/ YOU DO FOREVER
Same, She’s just so good at giving out info in such an entertaining way
Writer here. These videos are an AMAZING cultural index, which isn't even getting into her tumblr feed. I'm learning so much and it's so awesome!!!!
I love learning more about cultures I was never exposed to before, and this channel is exactly that.
I love to learn about all these details about Chinese mythology, I am currently learning mandarin too. Also I can only fangirl when you mentioned wang yibo and xiao zhan for the naming examples. I am absolutely addicted to the untamed 🥰
only part chinese here, but reconnecting with my heritages as a whole is something that's been so empowering as a diasporic asian person who only stopped being ashamed about it a few years ago. letting go of all that negativity due to internalised racism (from a lot of outside factors) and making room for more cultural pride is made so much easier by people like you. it's really great and inspiring to see how much passion you have.
My stepsons mom died of cancer when he was still a baby, he was begging us to watch this and he LOVED it, it was so nice to see him relate and cope with his feelings of lost in such a calm and funny way, he was astonished by the colors and the music, while being so engaged with the story, its very hard to get him to focus on anything, also hes learning chinese in the elementary school, so he was excited to see familiar things hes been taught. I apologize for my english
your english is amazing, dont worry. such a touching story
Your English is better than most comments on RUclips.

That’s such a sweet story! Also don’t apologize for your English, it’s great ❤️
Thats really cute-
Fun fact: Phillipa Soo, voice of Chang'e, doesn't speak chinese. But i feel like her pronunciation was spot on for the few chinese lines she sang. Only another reason to love her more.
Phaden Swan DeMil She probably had help from one of her parents who is Chinese
she's also a quarter chinese!
She's mixed, how about Lin Manuel Miranda?? I read a tea about him being half-Filipino
@I her dad is Chinese-American, I believe
@@-rin2836 That could mean that he's either half like white American and half Chinese or that he's just Chinese fully but born in America. 🤣🤣🤣 Lol
I stumbled across your review of the new Mulan and fell in love with your passion and knowledge. It's a genuine joy to hear you talk about this culture that is so unfamiliar to me with such reverence. I have seen all your videos now and cannot wait to see more. You are easily one of my favorite creators at the moment.
All the information she said can
