DJ Pain 1 is probably one of the most informative producers in the world. Thank you for allowing us producers to understand in a clear cut way how to make a living in the future with our brands. I encourage all other producers who don't know who he is to Just pay attention. He drops gems.
I dont think I ever pressed play so fast on a RUclips video before...lol....the homie DJPain1 been dropping jewels and providing great content for the producer community for a while. Great job fellas keep up the good work
Invest in a round table. Easier for conversing with the person next to you, especially when you have to speak in to a microphone that's in front of you.
Dj Pain representing Wisconsin ‼️ I didn’t know he was from here, but he’s right, it seems like we got nothing coming from our state. A lot of talent in the underground tho just know 🤧
There are definitely programs for music production. I just graduated from Berklee College of Music with a bachelors in Music Production. They have a great program that is heavily focused on producing. I don’t really play a main instrument and went through the program with MIDI controllers essentially making beats. The program obviously branches out slightly into other classes but it’s still useful stuff to learn such as vocal production, songwriting, music theory, etc. School doesn’t guarantee success and you get out what you put in. Pros and cons to every route.
I saw the scars on the arm of the the guy on the left. And said that was from a bike accident . Then I looked at his shirt and confirmed my observation lol
52:15 - There are a few production schools out there actually (with full curriculum)! I have quite a few friends that attended Icon Collective in North Hollywood and turned out to be some fantastic producers! Check em out!!
On Minute 20:40 he states something like "you dont have to clear the beat, you more have to clear the lyrics or furthermore the whole song" - but how does sampling work as a beatmaker who is selling beat leases with samples eg on beatstars, airbit - how should i deal with sampling and clearance when i eg lease a beat for 30$ and it contains a sample?
Don't worry about it until it becomes a problem. No label coming after u for selling a few hundred dollars in leases why would they pursue anything that wouldn't cover their bare minimum legal fees
He’s mentioned work-for-hire a few times in regards to selling his own beats to major artists. With his credit list, why not negotiate a flat rate AND royalty splits for your exclusives? Even without a credit list, any producer should try to negotiate.
It's a good question, but I think you misunderstand the whole "negotiations" process. Labels aren't allowing anybody to keep their masters. Even artists like Prince had to fight lengthy battles to buy theirs back, decades after they were released. And they're few and far between.
hope this comment gets pinned for knowledge. Studio musicians get sheet music and get told what to play, they have almost 0 input on what they play and that's why they don't get songwriting royalties
“Je m’appelle français” isn’t correct but I’ma let that pass lol cause I think you meant “je ne sais pas parler français” which means “I don’t know how to speak french”
20:40 "once u sell the beat its a work for hire, they own the copyright"....im confused, dont u keep a portion of both the composition rights as well as the master rights in a decent contract??......is giving up all right to the masters and only keeping a portion of the composition, the standard??
Giving up masters and keeping your share of the composition is standard in major label deals, hence why the greats like Michael Jackson, et al either didn't own their masters or had to fight to buy them back from the labels.
I want to keep all of my publishing I never want to allow someone else to own my music that’s so fucking dumb I don’t care 🤷♂️ if a Major Label 🏷 offer me a million dollar contract. Hell no!
🙏
