Good video. I hope Bolts would mostly charge at or very near their max rate for the majority of the charging curve. Is that Tesla site on Hgwy 54 or off Morrow Industrial?
Yes, at Southlake Mall in a lot that was once near the old Sears lower level entry that was demolitioned and being made into something else now. Close to the "Ye Olde Town Morrow" setup.
Bolts are a great commuter car, but not a road trip car. Max charging is 50-55kw on a good day. It was one of the first mass produced EV's and they've never updated the charging system and battery configuration to make it faster.
I found out that all 2022 year models and newer does not need a software update to use Tesla superchargers. They already have access. 2021 and older models will need to be taken into a dealership to get a software update in order to gain access to Tesla Superchargers.
I can tell you I've don't no updates for mine (2023), and it worked fine with the Tesla app. I've yet to try the Plug-and-Charge (where one registers the VIN and doesn't use the app at all).
@@j2inet Plug and charge currently isn't available and from what I've heard it's not going to be. It's only "Charge by App". The only two options are the Tesla app and the My Chevrolet/My GM apps.
@@j2inet As of May 2024, there were 17 V4 Tesla Superchargers deployed in North America. Of those, only 6 allow the use of the magic dock, and only 2 of those are confirmed to allow the use of the payment terminal.
It's an option. I didn't know it was an option when I made this video a few hours ago, so it's not mentioned. You can use the app to setup plug-and-charge. I understand when this is setup, you will be presented with the option to buy the adapter. I might do another video on that later day if I free up.
@@j2inet the GM recommended NACS adapter from Tesla is not UL certified, only made within the UL certification guidelines just like A2Z NACS adapter or the Lectron NACS adapter , all 3 are Made based on UL guidelines and are waiting to be certified. So do not get mislead to thinking Tesla NACS adapter is something special
This is terrible for the rest of us. Tesla owners will now have to endure the scourge of slow charging Bolts clogging chargers that we had endure when using CCS charging stations. It was awful. 3 or 4 or more bolts slowing charging to 100% while other ev owners waiting in line to charge with some of the Bolt owners not even it their cars.
I'd think that a bigger problem is that the cords are so short that a Bolt is going to use two stalls. Honestly probably going to be a mostly non-issue except at stations that already have high contention.
I have a Tesla and welcome all EVs including the slower charging ones. We all need juice right? This is about a revolution. We might have a squeeze in the short term, but in a year or two, there will be more than plenty of stations for charging. As it is now, of all the Superchargers I've used, I've only had to wait twice in the last two years and only for a few minutes. Its just not a problem. Most new stations are getting 30, 50, 80 dispensers and more.

Bolts can only charge at maximum up to 55% or so state of charge at max rate. 60-80 much slower.

Nope
It would be nice to use all tesla chargers and not just the v3 ones.
Yeah, the older V2s won't work with CCS
We have access to V4 also. Those already supported CCS cars and have the adapter built in.

did you have to upgrade software at the dealer first ?
no
Yes, if you have a 2019 or 2020 Bolt, you will need an update from the dealer. Newer ones are okay
I didn't. I think some much older ones may.
So, no MyChevrolet app and no $225 GM adapter.

Charge to the left most post on the Tesla, let the other guys charge on the right. That way only one post will be blocked if the site is full.
