      The main reason at high level play is to conceal what you've drawn.
      When you don't shuffle your hand your opponent will know what cards you keep holding and what are the ones you are playing from the top of your deck.
      Like for example, let's say an opponent thoughtseizes you and sees a lightning bolt, now next turn you top deck another lightning bolt, if you dont shuffle your hand and just play it immediately your opponent will know that you still have one left, if you shuffle your hand first he will probably assume it's the one he saw with thoughtseize.
      The same is true for cards you expect but dont know according to the deck they're playing and might be holding, over time most skilled players can estimate a range of cards that players could be holding, if your opponent always plays cards without shuffling the hand first you will get a much higher accuracy for reads into your opponents possible hands.
      So shuffling your hand is a good habit to get into because you want to do it after every draw.

      the most simple answer is that hand shuffling feels good

    • @sindividual
      @sindividual Год назад +7

      It's a form of stimming. Most mtg players are either on the spectrum, neurodivergent, have anxiety, ADHD, etc. It's a way to give yourself short bursts of sensory stimulation in a tense situation. Also, it feels good...

      To be clear, for the other 99% of the games played they should be paper for ease comfort and general fun of using your own cards. But for the major main stage feature matches, they should be on arena just for veiwability, ease of interaction, less judgecalls, and general amount of information available to be viewed as a spectator
