Hi. I have a question….love all your videos btw…I was told I have to sand in order to do a top coat or it won’t stay. ( I did the sand method and it ruined my work) Why did you not have to sand?
Hi, thank you! It’s recommended to sand your coasters if you’re doing a top coat after 24h/48h has passed. We typically do our top coat within this window so sanding isn’t completely necessary. If you wait longer then definitely sand your coasters, it will look scratched and blurry but once you add the top coat it will fix everything 😊
While doming I often find one side left without resin...even though I check it is levelled on base and spread it evenly till edges...can u help me out...and do make a video on how to level the surface. Also how to correct doming it it fails
How long after because I just tried to do Mine and it was very hard and it Jumped and cut my thumb LOL 🤦♀️ It qas maybe only 24 hour after originally pouring the.
Omg! I bought DCS after seeing this video, is amazing!!!! Mirror like! BUT! after 24h is not fully cured, still soft. On the bottle says 7 days to fully cure but after how much time is it ok to touch them? I mention my work space has minimum 22 degrees all the time and all other resins i'm working with are hard rock after 24h
Glad you like it! I can usually touch them after 48 hours, but I like to set them aside for about a week to allow it to cure, and should be completely cured after 2 weeks. It does take longer to cure than other resins, if I need something to cure faster I top coat with Honey Resin which is also rock solid after 24 hours. DCS also has a different mixing ratio to most resins I used (100:70 by weight) so make sure you’re mixing it correctly, I messed up when I first starting using it 😅
Is the resin top coat just a thin layer of part a and part b resin mix that you put on top of the fully cured resin? Do you have to put a top coat to complete or protect the resin work? What does the top coat do to it?
I do a top coat to dome the edges so that they’re not sharp, and they’re nice and rounded. I also use a resin that has a higher heat resistance so that a tea or coffee cup won’t damage the coaster. You don’t need to do a top coat, it’s completely up to you, but I find that it ups the quality of your piece!
Your topcoats are always so flawless! Do you check them periodically as they cure? I’m having trouble with little pin like protrusion. They are perfect when I first dome. I cover them to cure and next day an air bubble in my finish 😩
Thank you! I check them several times before I cover them, after I add the resin I’ll take about 10 minutes to remove any small fibers, double check everything, and use the torch gun several times to make sure that no air bubbles pop up. Then I cover them and leave them until the next day. You want to make sure not to pick out anything after the resin has already started to thicken because then it might not level out evenly
Then purpose is to protect the bottom side of your project as the resin moves and drips underneath. When the resin get underneath, it lands on the latex making it easy to remove those drips and leaving a smooth finish underneath. This is don in place of taping and it's s lot quuicker.
hi I made 6 coasters and did a top coat the next day and every one cracked I was so upset as I wasted all my resin and feel really dis heartened don't know why they all cracked
How long do you wait to demold the coaster...also I have another question...I used blue alcohol ink (2 different shades and 2 brands). Each time it hit the resin it changed colour and turned dark red...any idea why and what can I do so that it retains the original colour (one was cobalt blue and another Aqua). I tried another colour which was not a shade of blue...but it didn't react this way for that colour
We wait around 24 hours to demold. A similar thing happened to me as well as my mom, we believe it’s because the alcohol ink is light in weight and can rise to the top while the resin is curing, so one color can overpower the others. We aren’t entirely sure how to solve this, but I like to mainly stick with pigment pastes and mica powders. To answer your other question, we haven’t tried PVA glue so I’m unable to say but I’m really happy using liquid latex! Hope this helps 😊
I know its been 2 years, but just an FYI your STILL helping people. Thank you so much.😃
Can you use the same resin you used for the coaster as a top coat?
Your work is outstanding 🤩
I absolutely love your work!!!! Question for you can you do a top coat before demolding?
Hello is the top coat only epoxy A + b blended to gether ?

what square coaster molds do you use?
Nice job... a question, is that resin resistant to high temperatures and does it scratch?
Thanks
Please I would appreciate an answer

Is the torch necessary?
I saw another person using PVA glue to cover back instead of latex...what do u think about that
What's the point of using liquid latex, when you removed it after drying?
What exactly does the latex do? you poured it then peeled it off.
I think it's to catch the resin drips

Hello😊 Can you please tell me where can I buy honey resin or dcs? I am having trouble finding it😔
You can use petroleum on the sides and bottom and the resin wipes right off.
Hi...I tried this but there were resin drops which was very difficult to scrape off. Any suggestions on how I can save those coasters?
@@rhea72 I sand my mess ups finish them off again with another layer of resin.

@@SummerGirlDesigns - thank you for all the great tips. I will keep all of that in mind when I do my next topcoat. Your advice is much appreciated!
Why is my resin topcoat Always retracting on the edges of my pieces ? I don't understand 😢
Do you let the top coat go on the sides?
I try to avoid it but if it goes a little bit on the side it’s no big deal 😊
Thank you for this tip
Please what ingredients can I use for this ?
I use resin from Dipon, you can use my code ‘SUMMERGIRL’ to save 10% 😊
Love your coaster. I have a question.
is the top layer heat resistant and also scratch resistant?
