I’m an OTR truck driver, & no matter where I’m at in the whole U.S. A that sound is a soothing comforting, nostalgic sound of my home back in Pennsylvania I reminisce listening to that...
Railfanning at night is a ton of fun! Highly recommend. Whenever a train approaches and passes, it gives you an adrenaline rush. Go check out some “in the dark” videos over at m.ruclips.net/channel/UCQLaFsZxGxdx6GOc3mgWMXg
This reminded me of an old VHS tape I have called "Into the 90's: From Dusk to Dawn." Not sure if it is available on DVD, but it is a fantastic video with tips on how to capture video at night using available light from street lights, station platforms etc. One of the advantages of railfanning at night or in the early morning is that noise from cars and other things is not nearly as bad as during the day. Nice video.
Thanks Joe, I like recording here at night because of what you mentioned above- there's tons of light and barely any road traffic after 8 PM. On a different note the MEC heritage engine came in on EDPL on Wednesday and because of a derailment in Berlin they are set back a few days so the engines should be in Plainville this weekend.
Sounds a lot like Penn Central EMD SW1 #8599 (Buckeye Central Scenic Railroad, Zanesville and Western Scenic Railroad), U.S. Air Force MRS-1 #2104 (Pacific Southwest Railway Museum) and our C&O EMD GP7 #5833 (Hocking Valley Scenic Railway). I believe this horn is a Leslie RS5T-RRO type.
First thing: I like how you enhanced the audio at the beginning. Fact is that is the method paranormal investigators use. And second: is the lead locomotive in RailAmerica paint or is it just me?

Thankyou for what you do brother
Hell yeah. Keep hauling our country’s loads and stay safe out there.
I used to hear sounds just like these growing up with Conrail during the 90's in NJ. Miss ya Big Blue. You always were the best.
Absolutely evocative video: the night, the crickets, the horn in the distance. Scary but also reassuring somehow.
That mechanical bell sounds amazing too
A General Electric steel bell sounds awesome with a Leslie RS5T-RRO horn
That’s the most common train horn you hear at night IMO. I used to hear these all the time as a kid coming through the CSX yard in GA.
Top 5 favorite train horns:

Man I love the sound of that RS5T
It sounds like USAF Locomotive 2104 from "There goes a Train".
yep it does!
Or our C&O GP7 #5833 at Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
Same kind of horn to all
Excellent work. Lovely audio capture. Love the sounds of railways carrying on the night air.
Hearing the moters of the train plow through the air in the background is chilling
This video really makes me want to do night railfanning. Awesome catch!!
It makes me want to railfan at night, too!

Joe That's why I railfan the R&N PIFF job more than the PISB, because you don't have the the large amount of cars.

The horn reminds me of the ones on V/line N class locos.
And our C&O GP7 #5833 at Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
I love that horn
What railroad company is that?
Nothing rules the night like a k5la
Pan Am? I think I heard this exact same horn on one of your other videos.
First thing: I like how you enhanced the audio at the beginning. Fact is that is the method paranormal investigators use. And second: is the lead locomotive in RailAmerica paint or is it just me?
Who searched this randomly cuz they heard trains at night
WC Hayes Gen 1?? MC Bell in background?
What locomotive number and railroad is that?
I believe that was MEC (Pan Am) GP40-2 #381 Leading.
Nightmarishly musical train horns
reminds me of the CR GMs and the VR A class locos
Where was this video taken?
does any company still make horns like this?
Not sure if leslie is making these types of horns sense the RS5T were invented around 1970s mostly SBD ACL used those horns a lot
I Believe That Is A CSX Train
