this is the first video i’ve seen from you & i have to say i loved it! i definitely agree, my favourite thing about moshfegh and what gets me to just adore her works is the fact she’s not scared to explore the depraved and sometimes unsettling in such a large way! can’t wait for that video about all her works and can’t wait for to get this book when it’s released!!

I am beyond excited for this one! So relieved that you liked it. McGlue is my favorite Moshfegh so far (still need to get to My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Eileen, and the short story collection) , so this one sounds perfect to me! This was such a thorough and insightful review! I love getting reviews from readers who are actually excited about the work and are true fans of the author. You give so much perspective and context that we wouldn't get from a casual or even a professional critic. Great job, Jaylen! As always! Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you! It really helps while I wait anxiously for the release! I can't wait to dive into another Moshfegh and see what that strange and wonderful creative mind of hers has come up with this time!

I’ve been kind of on the fence about reading this book, but I’ve now seen three reviews praising it heavily. I think you’ve sealed the deal for me and I’ll have to add it to my TBR. Great video.

some ppl act so horrified by this book, but i thought it was pretty mild honestly. maybe bc i watch a lot of cronenberg movies, but it didnt feel gratuitous at all. i thought it was funny and spiritual.

Also follow up q: will this book fuel my cynicism of humanity or will it alleviate me of the burden of feeling alone in my skepticism of our redeemability?

First thing I did after I finished the book and went "what the fuuudge" was seeing if you'd reviewed it. You definitely brought some things up that i'd missed! I'd love to see a spoilery analysis of this book by a fellow Otessa Moshfegh stan. The ending has me *gagged*.

Ok I just finished so I had to come back and watch your review now that I’m done. I have so many thoughts but I don’t think this one was for me really. Though I felt that way when I first read Eileen back in like 2015? And I loved it way more on a reread. I think I definitely need to read this one again to catch all its nuance!

Villiam represents big government and the elite, not capitalism per se. I think Ina represents a source of intellectual and societal nourishment, uncontrolled by Villiam, that tries to sustain the town despite Villiam. Since Ina is "dried up" I would think she is not so much the internet, but more represents classical literature and cultural beliefs.

Behind all the gore, brutality and bleakness- the novel ends with ONE message which is simply ‘open your heart and let God in’.
