Truly appreciate the honesty. We all make mistakes and it is good to acknowledge this and also to talk through the options. Great video, really helpful thanks.
I just did a fish-in substrate change and re-scape in my tank. Did it in two phases, replaced half one week and did the rest the following week to avoid crashing the tank. I rinsed filter media in the tank water and did water change the day after each, and I placed an ammonia remover media in the filter chamber that I left in running a week after. So far so good!
I’ve found cutting the bottom off a soda or water bottle and the filling it with soil works a treat. I keep the top on the bottle while filling it with soil. Then, I take the top off, put my thumb over the opening, and lower it into the water. When I’m where I want to be, I remove my thumb, and the soil goes right where I want it.
This is a great idea! So I did a 75 a while back before i got into the soils and just went with black blasting sand. What would you recommend to get the soil under the sand? Use your bottle method but just move the sand away like making a valley then fill with soil and cover it back up with sand? Or would siphoning all the sand out, putting the soil then re adding be the best method? I’m just trying to get opinions from others before i go tear it all up. Haha Also @BRSfresh what’s a good option for low to mid favoring mid range plants in a 75? The light i went with is absolute crap. It’s just a big crap chain name strip light lol. I got two kessil’s pretty cheap a while back but they are the thinner ones with two adjust dials on top. I tried them on one of my 14G cubes and they just have wayyy too much blue imo. I don’t think they have the right spectrum for a planted tank but hell what do i know lol so give me some options please 😂 I don’t mind paying for quality but don’t want to break the bank either lol
@@BRSfreshoh one more thing, how many 17lb bags of bio-stratum would you recommend for the 75? To be under a sand cap. Won’t be full jungle style but atleast 50ish percent plants
Hello from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm a big fan of yours! Appreciate this video because doing a big "remodel" on an aquarium is inevitable for me and anyone else with a fishroom full of true Aquascapes. TY!
@@BRSfresh Chihiros WRGB II Pro. Used the Kessil a360x for a year. Color is night and day better and the growth difference is also insane. Even using the red channel with the Kessil controller.

I’m about to flip another one and it will go much smoother this time 😅
THIS IS A VERY HELPFUL VIDEO. THANKS
Glad to hear!

That sounds like a smart plan! Much less stressful route than the one I took 😏
@@BRSfresh I didn’t do the gravel vac method though so it was a MESS cleared up in an hour lol
good video , some good tips here thank you!
Great to hear, thank you! 🙏 I wasn’t even sure about making this video but thought the experience could help others. Glad it did!

@@Jhholderfield I would probably put the soil over the existing sand, and the cover with fresh.

Thank you 😊 The ability to remodel and reinvigorate the love for your tank is a cool aspect of freshwater aquariums - just as long as it’s done right!
Awesome tips
👋! Thanks for watching 🙌
good video, bur the lack of color on the kessil a360x never ceases to amaze. best decision I ever did was replacing mine
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏 - A lot of great options out there…what light did you go with?
