this isn't how autism works though? autism doesn't slow mental development, it stunts social development. you don't "have the brain of a child", some people with it more seriously, just can't communicate or think differently, they're aren't mentally impaired. i'm an autistic woman and although there are many symptoms, nothing acts like this with autism. this is more down syndrome style behaviour, or other "handicapped" neuro disabilities like that.
@@shadycatz85 my 10 year old is autistic, he is smart, but can act like a 4 year old and other times a toddler and can be overwhelming I wouldn't change him at all he's fine how he is. It could be possible that not all autistic people are the same.
I know this clip is kinda adorable, but I just burst out crying due to the fact this reminds me of my brother, he has Autism and is 28 but his mind is that of a 10-year-old.

Unfortunately there some people with Autism like that. But not all. It depends on how the NT (neurotypical) doctors classify as high or low functioning. I'm classified as very high functioning but I was diagnosed when I was 24 after my then 4 year old (now 16 year old) son was diagnosed.

@@komalzia6566 I mean they did show some mercy to the audience and had a little bit of a happy ending. If they wanted to, they could've made the ending so depressing that it would leave you with depression. But yeah it definitely has some depressing scenes. I would say watch it. It won't kill ya.
What happened in the movie (I'm lazy)
I watched this film like a week ago and loved it. The actress playing the lead is sooo good, and she seemed so familiar to me. I couldn't think of why. Then it hit me now that it's frickin' Kang Hye-jung! I can't believe I didn't realise that right away. Hye-jung is such a cool and funny person, a terrific mum to Haru, she and Tablo are such a cute couple, and she is an absolutely brilliant actress. I guess that's actually why I didn't immediately recognise her in this. Her speech and facial expressions and everything playing this role are just too good, haha!

Ok Herb is a movie that I really wanted to like when I saw it way back in 2007. The problem is not the actors (Hyejung again does a great job as a 7 year old in a 20 year old body - big fan of hers ever since Oldboy) - it's the script - just a big, big mess (seven writers worked on this trying to make something coherent). They also switch gears from the love story to having to deal with her mother's illness for much of the second half (another Korean movie that changes from romantic comedy to tearjearker). Not saying it's not enjoyable - but not sure its worth the price

Yeah now I watched the movie I can totally understand what you meant. Though i did enjoy the movie it felt like it was chopped up. Like the transition from a light romantic comedy to tearjerker was quite sudden. Though the mums illness was foreshadowed, overall it wasn’t very smooth.
@Tralala_Beez Yes change of genre isn't revolutionary - it happens not just in Korea but lot of Indie films around the world. The difference here is in the skill of the director and the script. First, Bong Joonho is an amazing director - you could even make the case he's the best Korean film director of all time. The Host and Mother are phenomenal movies, both script and on film. A perfect example is Snowpiercer - He takes an effects-laden spectacle, turns it on its head and makes it work - beautifully - the key here is SKILL - the same reason why Hitchcock could make horror movies work with very little blood and gore, or Spielberg take a shark movie where we seldom see the shark - and turn up the suspense to the Nth degree.
Parasite is also the right movie to come out at the exact right time. The social commentary on class divide (something especially true in Korea, where the inequity between the top and the bottom is very close to what exists in the US - it's a huge reason why former President Park Geun-hye was removed from office and jailed - and why many Koreans are questioning the entire chaebol system. Certainly the haves-vs-have nots theme plays very well in the US and the western world right now.
The other part of the secret sauce of Parasite is the humor - it is a very funny, dark comedy, a trademark of Bong's work. He found a cast that was capable of playing both the humor and the seriousness of the situation perfectly (well deserving of the SAG award for Best cast). Herb, on the other hand, is unfortunately written and directed by Heo in-moo, who has a mixed track record at best. Heo does well with lighter, frothy comedy like he did with Love So Divine and Little Black Dress, but stumbles on Herb and Little Princess. Not saying there wasn't a great movie here (interesting concept) - but Herb just isn't a great film, Korean or not.
why does anyone talk about how young Jung Kyung-ho look in this movie? i mean i am a big fan of him, but he looks innocent af

Me and my brother both have autism mines mild but his is really bad (On top of that he has learning difficulties and ADHD) so seeing a film which a mentally challenged person can be loved made me overwhelmed with joy :)
Edit: Oh...I read the description, yup they made it into a movie so those suffering with mental difficulties are ridiculed. Typical. We aren't all unloved you know?

setyo wati yes I think the ratings were low because TBH the script was “too smart” for people. It was obviously based on the German story of Faust which is complicated. I loved this interpretation. Anyway, I thought he portrayed guilt especially well. He has incredible range.

I would never wish for a mentally disabled child to have been aborted. All children should be cherished and given an opportunity at life.

I mean if the mother's life is in danger then it might be necessary, y'know?

@@NetScourge yeah, and people with mental handicaps that make them have the "mind" of a child are legally not able to consent to sexual relationships because they are unable to understand the seriousness and consequences of doing so, like kids. this is pushing aside the fact that this character is supposedly autistic and this isn't how autism works at all (autism stunts social behaviour, not mental maturity)
