Both of your island photos were home runs! I love photographing leaves/plants so I get how much fun you had working that great scene. My favorite of the ferns was the B&W, clean and graphic!

Loved the 98mm version of the small island the best. I liked how the longer focal length isolated it from everything else. As you were describing the first shot in your video I kept looking over your shoulder and saying to myself I sure hope he does a shot with a longer lens, I’d really like to see how that would look and low and behold you didn’t disappoint!

Excellent images Adam, persistence indeed paid off. I particularly liked the Closer in image of the tree as a solo subject and the last black and white fern image. Both of these images were most impactful and evocative to me. I would like to add I really appreciate you taking the time to go into detail your thought process in setting up and selecting an image, then going over some of the post work you do. It is enlightening and instructive.

Awesome video Adam. Loved the recomposition of the lake images just awesome. Also loved the fern images. The last image I found to be the most interesting, I don't know if anyone else thought this but I found the way the ferns lead to the left-hand side then there is one fern that just twists at the end to the right that leads you straight back into the image to re-explore the whole image again. Thanks for sharing!!!

I enjoyed both images a lot Adam, but I was drawn to the ferns as I took a similar shot in Hope Valley last year. The sun was starting to melt the frost and so it had a lovely contrast of frost and sun kissed brown ferns.

A great general lesson -- persistence. But there's always more too, like your thought process and attention to detail like keeping the branches from intersecting the island. I still don't love the branches and prefer the zoomed version, but I can see where others would differ. Thanks again.

So true .... persistence has to be one of the most important qualities for a landscape photographer. It's so often a mental game, a cycle of anticipation followed by disappointment, but then suddenly it comes together like it did for you that day. Love the fern images and the isolated shot of the island, the ND works well in helping to create that isolation. The other one is a bit too busy, but that's just me.

...Simply beautiful Adam. The island shot by itself in b&w is gorgeous. As some of your subs have already made note of, I can't help but being more mindful in how I compose my own images when in the field using some of your techniques and/or variants of them. After watching this, I look forward to getting out there again & having a go at it!
The frosted ferns was an excellent opportunity while you were there & I appreciate your thought process on how you gently draw the eye into the scene without actually using a vignette but by darkening the the top & edges just enough without touching the bottom of the image, simply beautiful...
    Cheers,

Wow, fantastic revisit, you've proved the point :) I think I love the solo island best, those almost metallic colours are amazing. I've only seen that once here before a snowstorm, and I think my composition was good, but I didn't manage to get the colours right in Lightroom.

You’ve got such a great eye for detail Adam. I’m in agreement with you on the images from this trip being better. Still bothered a bit by the branches as my eye just goes directly to the right but I love the smooth tones from the 10 stop. The fern images are so good. I was hoping that there would be a macro image where you went super tight and really grabbed the texture and light on a single fern but certainly can’t argue with the beauty of all of your images. Well done!
