And real makers make. Regardless of the tools at hand... I bet Jimmy could have done the same tool holders 100 other ways with different tools. Because he is a true maker. Not just a carpenter that is limiting by a fixed set of tools...
jimmydiresta a horse is animal cruelty .And this is shopbot cruelty.. i expected more from that bot😌It needs a robotic arm with it to make the box and you film it. 😏😁
This project hit the old nostalgia button pretty hard. When I was a kid, the tool box was the first project I ever did and it looked quite a lot like one of these when I was done. The handle was an aluminum pipe and the body was wood but it looked just like this. My dad gave me the design and the know how to use the tools but I did the work. I used that took box for 20 years. Thanks for the excellent trip down memory lane, Jimmy!
You do some amazing creative builds, but this one is off the charts for creative and practice. I can copy lots of stuff I see, but the part of my brain the dreams this sort of stuff is all shriveled. You my fried can do it all. I’m so impressed!
I get so many useful tips and tricks watching these. Like supporting the rails with a piece of scrap while hammering nails into them. That is so smart and unexpected, yet once you see it, so intuitive and natural a thing to do. Which is why he's Jimmy DiResta! And I'm... not! :)
Looks like you need to invest in some leather-working tools next Jimmy. They make a gouge that will cut a groove in just a couple passes in the corners so you could've wrapped the leather around the box, kept it one continuous piece. I know it makes it look nice to have the finished side up on the inside but the suede side is more durable and helps keep the moisture off the tools, better to put that facing up. I'd also recommend contact cement for an adhesive. Leather pulls away from PVA fast as it ages, it won't be long before the only thing holding that leather on is the tacks. Barge is the go-to brand, they've been making the stuff since your great-great-grandaddy was using it to repair his saddles with the same bucket of glue his grandpa gave him.
You used / utilized the round bar stock as a cobbler would use a " Shoe Last" to repair shoes or a body man repairing a car panel. This was good thinking on your part, can't say I seen this used too many times in carpentry, still a good idea nonetheless, thanks for that, it shows you are always thinking. When you tapped the steel bar.., is when the idea to use it came to you? The wood and leather is a nice combo, strong and lightweight. Great vids as always Jim, keep them coming, lovem' all.
Everyone who think it's cheating, I could do this with a handsaw and rasps. Sure. I have no idea how to do this on the CNC. Skill is skill folks. Jimmy has mad skills and nothing to prove.
Dang. Another use for my Icepick! I like that brown towards the front. It matches my boots. Unless I’m wearing my welding boots. Then the back one. Everyone knows your boots should match your tool tote.
Hi Jimmy, i saw in a pet shop those big raw leather chew treats/toys for dogs and could not stop thinking those could be used in some interesting projects...just a thought. Cheers
Long time fan of this channel and many other makers. I appreciate the upgrades in video and audio equipment. While I realize it's Jim's signature style to speed through his videos with included audio, I have a minor suggestion. Can you please do something with the sounds of powered saws? It's the only part of this video that I found unpleasant due to the high frequency noise.
Chaotic Logic honestly I do turn them down to about oneor2% and that’s how loud they still are Thank you for the ongoing support it is much appreciated
@@jimmydiresta I'm assuming most of those closeup sawing shots are done with a GoPro. I wonder if it's the internal mic that's the issue. Maybe there's some sort of compression filter you could apply to those segments of audio in editing? Something to take the intensity of the audio down a few notches. Sorry, I'm not an audio engineer. Just wanted to provide some constructive feedback. Thanks for the reply Jim.
One monolithic piece of leather seems stronger in my mind and possibly less work. Might have the tendency to tip over with the rounded corners however. Nice job man, looks good.
an almost unrelated question. I see your worktop, and how it gets paint/glue/cut/etc. How do you keep it from causing an issue with following projects? I try to keep my workbench clean(ish) (the usual method of keeping my worktop pristine is that is generally covered with a historical record of flotsam and jetsam of previous unfinished projects = shop crap) and I still mess up when I use the occasional unearthed horizontal surface for "work"... something doesn't sit right, or gets stuff all over it...
Was really expecting the the corners and edges to have hardwood reinforcing on top of the leather - leather sandwiched between wood , for extra strength, durability. CNC aside, still a great project for the DIYer
Probably because it would end up with rounded corners, nothing wrong with that but seeing how sharp are the angles in the wooden parts it would be a shame to throw that away... As far as I can tell.
that is cheating...a machine did all the work...real carpenter do the work by hand a little help from tools...
And real makers make. Regardless of the tools at hand... I bet Jimmy could have done the same tool holders 100 other ways with different tools. Because he is a true maker. Not just a carpenter that is limiting by a fixed set of tools...
Lolitabonita how come you don’t take horse everywhere and use candles? And shit in a pot? Why is the line drawn at the work shop ?
Oh look, an cheeto dust covered youtube troll. How odd
@@jimmydiresta time to flake another adze and get to work I guess

I know Jimmy speeds up these videos, but for some reason, I imagine this is just how fast he works.
Actually, it's a little-known fact, but Jimmy actually slows down all of his videos. He works much faster than it appears.
So now every time I work on something I get mad. "Why is this taking me so long, Jimmy did it in 10 minutes, I've been at this for hours!"
I've seen the guy work. It's not that far off.
I love how every set of nails was put in differently.
So stylish and beautiful it could be a ladies handbag, although maybe a bit too small for that. Thanks for sharing!
I remember when you used to scalp leather couches in the city for your leather. Amazing tool boxes man. Beautiful.
Those are super slick brother great idea

Just a question, wouldn't it have been even stronger if the leather was all one piece wrapped around the bottom of the tote then glued and stapled?
Yep and I’ve done that too. Need to ease the turn.
I had the same question Greg
Sure, but the thick leather wouldn’t fold nicely around the edges.
@@mm9773 I've seen Jimmy fold leather before. Water, heat, steam, whatever you use works, but it wouldn't be as quick and simple I guess.
@@jimmydiresta to ease the turn you use a v gouge (forgot the leather tool term) and it will fold nicely
Impressive weight carrying capacity. Dig the shop bot. Quality as expected. Nice job Jimmy.
These look great. A good beginner project and or perfect holiday gift.

Great seeing you in Heartville making these. Fun project!
Like! Like! Like! I need this one! Amazing job, Jimmy! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Very cool. Simple yet they looked great
I'm LOVIN that massive "safety" razor blade! IF I actually shaved, it would really cut down on how long it takes!

Great job is always Jimmy enjoy the videos wouldn't mind seeing how that giant razor blade looking thing is made though thanks Richard
Awesome video! Great looking totes! 👊
I like how you used that steel rod as an anvil, I also like the Herman Munster razor blade, very cool.
As always there is a lesson in your creations, once again I was Entertained / Educated in one easy to follow format ..Stay well my brother

Justin Bentley I did get married in my boots. 🤣
Nice work Jimmy!
I misplaced my safety razor, glad to see that Jimmy finally found it for me.
Towards the end of the video I think, yeh, that's perfect and then Jimmy adds another touch and it gets better.
I love your vídeos !!!!! Congratulations!!!! Brasil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷💗💗💗
Nice, handy tool boxes, like the leather work... Cheers!
Outstanding as usual brother. Way cooler than I imagined in my head when I read description, also as usual👍🇺🇸
Nice details and made to last.
Awesome work Jimmy! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
E bellissimo rivedere i vecchi progetti 👍👏👏👏
It is interesting to see, wood glue being strong enough to hold leather. And yes, that "razor blade" is great. :)
excellent job!!!
Great video jimmy
We need to talk about the huge razorblade immediately.
Yeah, take note of how readily it was set aside
How you throw the razor at the end!!! BOSS!!!😂💥👍🏼
Beautiful work! Very inspiring!
Awesome tool boxes
An adjustable leather shoulder strap would be good. Great work as ever👍
Hi Jimmy idea you should take the spoil board off the shop bot fill with a coloured epoxy and sand what a piece off art that would be
This time, he really nailed it
: >
I see you have a new XXL Razorblade design, NICE! :)
Simple and beautiful. Thanks for showing

The dxf files are available somewhere?
Curious why you didn't make the leather base all one piece.
Aye, I was thinking the same thing.
Probably because it would end up with rounded corners, nothing wrong with that but seeing how sharp are the angles in the wooden parts it would be a shame to throw that away... As far as I can tell.
I have no comment for this amazing video
Jimmy - what's the difference between the PVA glue you used and normal wood glue?
That's so crazy I JUST pulled mine down from the shelf!
Jimmy what kind of glue are you using between the leader and the wood? Nice build
Can I ask why you didn't use a single piece of leather to wrap all the way around?
I was waiting for u jimmy
Why not wrap the leather around instead of three separate pieces? Wouldn't it be stronger?
So cool!!!
I gotta make one of those....Tandy leather here I come
