- baseballtrainingprograms.com/3... Instantly Increase Your Pitching Velocity
In this video I share with you some pick off moves to second base for a right handed pitcher. If you want to know how to pick off baserunners at 2nd base, then here are 3 pick off moves. First is the step off. You can step off the rubber and turn any which way you like. The second pick off move to 2nd base is the inside move. The inside move you spin toward your throwing arm side after you lift your leg like you're going to pitch. The last move is the spin move where you spin towards your glove side. With these 3 pick off moves to 2nd base it is important to vary your looks and holds.

Can't thank you enough! I'm coaching an 11 - 12 team and we consider your videos to be our "bible" for pitching. Appreciate it man!
I was trying to use the spin move more often and you helped me understand it more! Thanks! 👍
Great job of showing young players the best pick off moves to 2nd. It was short, concise and easy to understand for young guys.
my son is wanting to pitch next season so your pitching videos are coming in handy. he loves watching them with me.
never knew that you could,do a spin move towards 2nd...thanks for the knowledge!
John, keep it up with the great vids! love the channel to improve my game
We had gone over it using this video just the week before & my son spun and chased a kid with a giant lead down. 13u championship game in a tourney, kid was the leadoff hitter the 2nd time through the lineup & he hammers a double. So 2 outs now w/ man on 2nd with a really good hitter up in the 3rd inning of a 3-1 game. HUGE momentum changing play thanks for the tips! It’s all about how you communicate with the younger players. 💪
your video's help me a lot in baseball. thanks!👍
I didn't realize, you could do the spin move on your throw to second.. Going to have our pitchers work on this, Thanks John
We used to do the spin move (the quickest) where the shortstop would play quite a distance from the base in order to entice the runner to take a big leadoff. There would be no bluffing him back. We *wanted* him to take a big leadoff. The pitcher adds to the effect by not even looking at the runner - he's keying off the catcher. Whenever the shortstop thought the runner had his biggest lead, he would sharply break for the bag. The catcher would see that and drop his glove as a signal to the pitcher to begin his spin and throw. We picked off a *lot* of runners with this.
Nice video man, much needed things I should work on!
Need to have you come out to one of my travel baseball practice. You have a lot of great tips.
Wow. Your films are great! They helps a lot :D
This is helping me so much as I am a pitcher in junior babe Ruth and I am right handed. Thanks so much
Sweet video! Cant wait for the 3rd base video.

This was really helpful.. Thanks John. Hopefully I get that sick sleve
great video looking forward for another great vid
Ill be sure to use these tips john!
Nice learned a few nice tips especially the off set foot so simple but overlooked. For the pick what do you do or how do you suggest to tip your fielders off to know it's coming in to either check or pick?
thanks for their video this really helped
I’m a little league pitcher and I sucked at picking off people intel now, this was very helpful
Great video. We love the crazy look! LOL
This helped me so much i been not able to get the guy at 2nd now i can THANKS
Thanks This helped me pick them off today
Hello John, when making the spin move to second base for your pick off move, can your right foot stay engaged with the rubber on the mound?
Thanks for the tips
Great vids..Thank you
Super useful thank you
Can you please do more vids about batting. And does holding your bat threw your swing help you get more force or is it the same when you swing and let go at the end
Perfect instruction.
thank you for the video
Great tips
Nice video man I'll have to use this I was doing it all wromg😂
Great vid thx, make more!
thanks for the tip
another great vid
Thx dude!
Thanks
Hi, I want to get serious about pitching and there's something I've been doing that I don't know if it's bad or not. I'm a. Righty pitcher and every time I deliver a pitch, my front leg points at about a 20 degree angle towards third base. Is this a bad thing? If so, should I fix it right now, or wait until the offseason?
I honestly suck at pickoffs to 2nd base but im working on it!
Thanks that helps
My favorite teachable pick off to second base is the "fall off the mound" method.
Well said
pitching in an adult league currently im definitely going to use this stuff thanks
Another great video.

Ive got to try that 3-2 2 out pick to 2nd. Thats py far the cheekiest thing ive ever seen
'A'...... thumbs up, you kidding me. Been playing since child hood 50+yrs, another crosser my mind on a men on, 2 out full count to get the runner out with a fake. Especially if it's a struggling hitter at the plate, get the 3rd out on the bag and get the struggling hitter back on as their inning 1st up. You ain't getting no A-Thimbs up.....I'm hitting you with 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.....
very useful
I've picked of a couple guys with these moves
How many times did u balk?
Awesome
OK I will send this vid to my friend
Fantastic. I’m going to use the crazy look when stopped at traffic lights.
tyvm.....I'm lost picking at 2nd lol
so ur right doesnt have to step off of the spin move?
With the mid delivery move meaning knee up set back behind mound with lead foot. Do you have to do it in 1 fluid motion or can your leg pause at the top.
Are you here from TikTok?
@@daniellamb7828 😮 how did you know???

Do you know if these moves are a balk in pony league baseball?
wow that helps
I have a question concerning the step off action, when you are picking on first you right foot is placing outside of the rubber toward second base, but how to avoid the balk when you are picking to second without the step off action?
A pitcher must step toward the base with his free foot. When performing the jab step, It does not matter where his pivot foot lands. But that is a move from the rubber, not a disengagement.
@@alanhess9306 It dosent matter if i can turn 360 degrees to the right to pick off?
@@Ben-dc2jk I assume you mean 180 degrees to second base. As long as you don't hesitate or step toward first (or third), you can swing your foot to second base and throw.
When can we call Balk try to pick up a runner in 2nd base?
Today, there was a guy on third, and I raised my leg and not committed to home but my head was still towards home and I threw over to third and had him out by a mile
Nice
I do that too!
Yeah and sometimes I stare at third and commit home making the runner run back to the back when I’m not even picking off
@@garywinthorpe6200 I tried that in practice and threw the ball 2 feet over the batters head
H Marks 😂😂💀
good video very useful
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
Crazy look! Like the exorcist!!
How can i prevent myself from "over swinging"
Who's your favorite player on the mets right now mine is Noah Syndergaard
These will come in hand
I know right
In the spin move, it appears that the first motion is a step-off in front of the rubber. Wouldn't that be a balk?? Maybe pick-off moves to 2nd have different balk rules. Also, I thought feints (non-throws) once you commit motion toward a base were considered balks. Again, I perhaps misunderstand the rules, or maybe the no-feints rule only applies to moves toward 1st and 3rd.
As a Graduate of the Joe Brinkman Umpire School, on the spin move you are stepping off before you throw the ball or not to second. If you try to throw or fake a throw to an unoccupied base, that is a balk. Also, if you look like you are leaning towards going home that too would be a balk. Otherwise, if you quickly step off when you spin l, that is not a balk. It's all in the details and timing. There is a very fine line between a Great pick off move and a Balk.
@@EdMaas2 Interesting. Thanks for sharing your insights!!
@@wetbook71 You're Welcome.
Hi
Nice video. I'd share some of my tricks, but I don't want any rival teams watching these comments.
One mistake young pitchers make when doing the inside move is that they don't raise their free leg high enough to make it look like they're delivering to the batter. They rush it and don't really give the runner a good look like he's pitching. I tell the pitcher to pretend that he's stepping over a bucket that has been placed in front of him. With that mindset, the pitcher will tend to raise his leg higher as he pivots around. It will stop him from rushing.
I'm guessing there's gonna be a pick off for 3rd base vid
How do I become more accurate
I was doing the spin move and the said it was a balk because the guy wasn’t standing on the bag
ist that a bhok
What's your idea of a pre game meal?
Pussy
+MegaDancer12 that was funny
Funyuns before every game!
God loves you
Solid video, minus the gold chain. Kick it one time, boy. 😉
so you don’t have to throw it on the inside move?
A pitcher never has to throw to second base.
Alan Hess thank you man i’ve been so confused abt this😂
@@aybro4705 YW
Did you ever get picked off by another pitcher in your MLB experience?
I have a feeling a lot of umps in youth baseball would consider these balks unfortunately. Just not as familiar with these moves/rules. Are these all still valid today? I believe some rules have changed on this recently.
Really I called for a balk because I didn't throw the ball to second when I tried to pick him off
Unless you did not step to second base, the umpire who balked you for that is an idiot.
today i was called on a balk after i stepped off to throw to third, but my third baseman was zoned out😂😂😂 so i didnt throw it. 😕
Ouch
I thought you could do whatever you want after stepping off?
Please tall me now
BALK!!!!!!
+Roman Del rio Whaaaaa?
No, no balks.
I never knew you could spin on the mound
Maddenlyus you could I do it every day
That's bear creek
I step off the back like I'm pitching backwards
where I play spinning is considered a balk
You need to play where the umpires know the rules.
I watched this in 0.25 x playback speed😂
You go pro it's a joke
+Roman Del rio Oh lol 😂
In minors I got called on a balk on the quick spin move...
Richard lowe exactly, you have to step off the rubber to go anywhere.
@@rylandcarlile3613 No, that's wrong. A pitcher never has to step off to pick to a base.
