    In this video I share with you some pick off moves to third base. If you're looking for how to pick off baserunners at 3rd base, then you're in the right place. More importantly, if you're looking to just hold him there from scoring, then that is great as well. You can do the step off pick off move or the 45 degree pick off move to 3rd base as a right handed pitcher. Just make sure you talk to the umpire so you don't get called for a balk.

    Excellent stuff. My son is 12 and for the 2nd year in a row has lead/or leading the league in pickoffs. Last night he did exactly what you did in the video on his move to 3rd. He got the pickoff, but opposing coach argued. Next inning he did same thing got a balk warning. Is this a universal way to pickoff without getting a warning? Thanks for the vids!

    Hey John, love your stuff. In this video, you say that you have to throw over if you make this move. Did you mean to say that? I thought you could make a move to second or third when they are occupied and legally decide not to throw over. Otherwise your other video about that really tricky pick-off move to second would be invalid. I'm referring to the older video where you act like you're coming home but don't break the 45, and then you spin hard and make a pick off throw to second. In that move, you're actually making a move to third and not throwing there. Did I misunderstand something?

    • @YouGoPro
      @YouGoPro  7 лет назад

      +onsitecomputergeek Yeh they actually changed the rule between the old video and this video. The tricky pick off you can no longer do, nor the ole "3rd to 1st". This video is inline with current rules.

    Hey Jon, another great video, good job. Could you maybe redo your pitching grip series? I really enjoyed (and still like 'em) the series but think they could be re-done perhaps. Maybe do a video per grip and go "more in depth". I think they would be helpful and would be popular. I don't think there are many good pitching grip videos out there and your the only channel I trust. Thanks.

    i love your videos but have never and will never pick off to third base because only bad things happen. for example i was at third and saw the pitcher trying to pick off to third so i had a huge lead and when i knew he was going to third i broke for home because i'm pretty fast and the third baseman bobbled it so i made it standing up.

  • @MH-Tesla

    I do believe the 45deg no longer applies. Need to step straight to the base. Even when this video was made that was the case.

    • @rhpmike
      @rhpmike 5 лет назад

      The rule has never said 45 degrees but it's a basic rule of thumb because you're not required to step in perfect 0 degree deviation toward the plate or toward the base. Some umps use an imaginary 45 for this but what they're really looking for is are you stepping more toward the plate or more toward the bag. If you're going toward the bag, or at least close and can walk it off (The back foot is really key for this) then you're going to be fine.

    Can you specify that this is OBR and not NFHS for the viewers? The overwhelming majority of baseball is America is played at NFHS level, with only the elite players reaching OBR levels. Under NFHS rules, a RHP can step toward third directly from the rubber and feign a throw, but has to disengage. Once they make that step and disengage, directly from the rubber, they become a fielder.
